  • i dont like the sounding of the snare, even though you played it pretty nice!!

  • Neil pert is the best drum in fucking Drummer in history.... .. well other than me of course

  • sounds like his snare is a block of wood sometimes

  • @DeathDrummer75 called a rim shot you fucking retard

  • @dietwaterVevo hey hey hey call down ass clown

  • 0:00 to 4:35 its amazing, your like Neil Peart

  • Decent cover but not very accurate and toms wayy too low

  • What is up with the hi hat shape?

  • @theRBninja im quite sure its a funky looking sabian. saw one of them today in my local music store

  • @theRBninja sorry i was wrong. its just the shadow that makes it look weird :P

  • I never really think about how hard Rush songs are to play until I get behind my set to play one.

  • @grooverooster Agreed....... it doesn't mean i dont think peart is unreal, but you cant say he's the best ever... i'm a huge rush fan, but after being exposed to these "no name" drummers and "You tube", i've opened my mind. If Gavin Harrison was in Rush he'd be the best ever too....

  • uhm.. at like 2:56, the dude made a motion like he threw his stick in the air. But he didn't, it was still in his hand. He even acted like he caught it. Am I the only one to notice this? Overall, great playing. Love the song. Just the one thing that really caught my attention.

  • You must be joking!!!!!! i think this man needs to go see Rush in concert, or watch some live footage of Neil playing YYZ.

  • @MikeParrottaVlogs He was clearly trying to be funny.

  • It must be really annoying having to hear someone learn the intro on drums...

  • This should be the graduation music for a drummer

  • epic man and epic drum kit

  • The notes are there, it's just not "in the pocket".

  • Neil Peart cap FTW!

  • The timing is bad. The fills are not what they should be. All in all...very messy.

  • Where"s your video????, i must have missed it!!!!

  • @grooverooster yeah true everyone as their opinion but i like to give other drummers a chance, my fav is probably john bonham or keith moon

  • I hate neil wannabe's

  • 0:26 is wrong

  • NEIL PEART <3

  • 2:56 best fucking part!!

  • drum stick twirl! 0:48

  • so sloppy...

  • @DrummingNonStop Hahah yeah right! I dont see your YYZ cover..

  • one more comment

  • so sloppy man

  • It looks like I'm the only one that laughed at the fake throw at 2:56? C'mon people, lighten up.

  • @PotaoDude i saw that and im goin "what the hell was that!?!?" -__- lollollol

  • Do these free drum lessons also teach you the "how to" on faking a stick toss

  • @Hockeyguy8541 Alright, I know someone who knows shit about Neil Peart.

  • @Zman6776 wtf does that have to do with anything?

  • I did this song for my school talent show about 6 days back or so and I have to say I could not have done it without this video

  • @RushandMaiden4ever congrats

  • man i can't even play this on rock band, haha!

  • why do all these guys wear that goof ball hat?

  • @vertigo2112 LMAO!! i l know right?

  • @vertigo2112 It's neil peart's hat if you look at the videos he always were's it

  • What was that crap at 2:56? Fake drum stick throw or what?

  • you're really good but cmon was the neil peart hat really necessary?

  • have you ever tryied the picking off technique looks like your snares taking a beating

  • The thing about Rush is, I really think they're good and talented and all, but when they're not annoying me, they're boring me. =[

  • @JefferstChmilst

You are so fucking stupid that it isn't even funny.

  • @TopTenCrew Typical Rush fan.

  • @JefferstChmilst Typical plebeian.

  • @kikayoaka And another

  • @JefferstChmilst You're real clever.

  • @JefferstChmilst

    Typical epic meal time fan....

  • @TopTenCrew I know a lot of them that love Rush. I was saying Rush fans are insulted if you don't like Rush.

  • top shelf dude nice work

  • Intro was a tad rough, the rest was pretty spot on

  • what the fuck there's a dislike

  • Just close your eyes and imagine that its the original song, it actually works lol...

  • AIR MAX

  • That is one EXPENSIVE drum set!

  • holy crap Neil Peart is the best fucking drummer in history!!!!!

  • @Mae997 it aint easy bein cheesy

  • @Mae997 ...and just think...this isn't even Neil Pert. hahah!

  • @Mae997 i wouldn't say the best

  • @Mae997 only below Buddy Rich

  • @Mae997 runner up to Buddy Rich

  • @Mae997 Thats not neil peart

  • @Mae997 Yeah, just after Bonham and Moon

  • @Logboi Dont forget Portnoy and Mangini

  • oh my God. PLEASE tell me where I can get that hat.

  • @fasionroadkill i think theyre sabian rocktagons

  • Roses are red;

    Violets are blue;

    When 4:04 came;

    I did too.

  • @ZeroSuitMetroid

    Roses are grey

    Violets are pencil

    This poem makes no sense...

    Refrigerator...

  • @fuzzybear718 Beautiful hahaha

  • the throwing stick is a feint!!!!!!

  • He's even got the peart head gear.

  • Nice job. That is a really cool song.

  • snare gave me a boner

  • Oh my god.... Are you sure you aren't a robot?

  • OMG..You are awesome!!

  • Genius

  • @ericmarshall19 ya no shit, agreed

  • bitch take off that hat you aint no neil peart

  • @ericmarshall19 probably closer than you are...

  • @ericmarshall19 Calm down, he's just having some fun.

  • slop intro but who cares loool

  • Very entertaining & very well done. A great cover that I think would make Neil proud. I especially liked the stick work.

  • mike's rocking the hat!

  • Awesome job man, I think you nailed it. Neil Peart just amazes me. I have been working on limelight but YYZ is a tough one. Lol. Peace.

  • He plays great. But what the fuck is up with that hat? hahaha.

  • @Joeybeacons Neil Peart wears those kind of hats, probably a tribute !

  • That was pretty damn good my man

  • Comment removed

  • Damn, I thought I had my snare cranked up high, haha! Nice job though.

  • I've been playing drums for about a year and a half now, and I hope I'll be able to play this song one day.

  • thumbs up for his lil hat :D

  • @mistahburnz2600 That's his "I think I'm going bald" hat. Cause if he was going bald back when they recorded Fly by Night, he gotta be a "before picture" for Rogaine by now!

  • @mistahburnz2600 I meant the real Neil Peart, of course. That is Neil's trademark hat.

  • Doing this with my band for a school talent show gonna be hard :P

  • the hands are near perfect, the footwork is off. clean cover and well executed

  • @ludewig85 are you kidding me?? his hands are all jacked up...WTF

  • @peetsjunkie What i meant was that he played all the parts requiring hands correctly. his stick holding and technique horrifies me.

  • @ludewig85 lol you guys are dumb, it wasnt off hes mike michalkow and hes a professional percussionist can you do better? didnt think so!

  • i want neils 727 sticks XD

  • i didnt even know this was possible .

  • 444 is the NEW number of the beast! ;D

  • I like it :-)

  • Great drumming, but the only person who can wear that cap and not look like a douche is Peart. So I guess I'm saying-Nice drum cover, shitty head cover!

  • i'm diggin' the neil peart head thing you got going on

  • @DailyBeat97 yeah, its called a Kufi cap. (pronounced "coffee cap")

  • I lol'd at 2:55 but other than that sick cover, twas almost perfect.

  • Good job! A couple of things, though. At 3:10, Neil fits 5 notes in the measure before the crash, not 4. Listen to it the original recording. Try it, I know you can do it, it sounds B/A. One more thing, where are the 8th note groupings of 2 notes (on the downbeat) on the single bass that Neil is famous for? Other than that, very good timing and interpretation. Excellent bass drum mix. Sounds awesome.

  • @chefjimmie1 dood...i know how important this stuff is (not). but u r prolly the only one who watched this video that noticed lil stuff like that. no one else really cares man

  • @Acebrineanswer Man, how old are you???? Learn how to spell or at least make an effort! If your school isn't teaching you (which is very possible) teach yourself. No excuses. We have the internet now. And as far as wanting to be flawless in your execution of the Neil Peart songs you are playing, I can understand how that really wouldn't be a priority to you.

  • @chefjimmie1 that aint what a cover is about....why do you even watch this if u wanna see it played perfectly....just watch the originals.

  • @Ace I BEG to differ with you, son. I have been in cover bands my whole life and the idea of being in a COVER BAND IS to play the COVER tune NOTE FOR NOTE so that the audience can't tell the difference between the cover and the original. People don't want to hear your cover band's VERSION of the song, they want to hear the EXACT song that they know and love no matter how good the COVER musicians are, they want perfection of the song EVEN THE MISTAKES the original band made played flawlessly.

  • @chefjimmie1 ...Your way off....If u do covers note 4 note...ur stale and boring.......You are describing a Tribute band......THEY need to be note for note....I do most of my covers in the band 85% the same and throw in my own stuff....thats reasonable and fits.....However there are certain songs/band you need to nail IMO..Tribute or Cover band..Rush is one of them...but if you want to play American Band, learn the intro, Hot For Teacher-intro, Good Times Bad Times you better know those doubles

  • @mikey Your audience probably is thin b/c nobody wants to hear your version of covers but now you are wrong on something else that is way obvious. You say that a drummer better know Hot for Teacher and Good Times Bad Times and then called them "doubles" meaning, I gather, that you are referring to the double bass since VH's Hot for Teacher is nothing but. John Bonham used a single bass and if you are thinking he had a double pedal, think again. That was years before that thing was invented.

  • @chefjimmie1 ...You "Gather" wrong.., First off double bass was first put together by Louie Bellson (1946) and recorded by him first (1951)..do some homework before you spout off....Second, doubles or a slide movement is the "Hard" part Bonham does in GTBT...Third, double bass was made very popular by Billy Cobham in the 70's and by Simon Phillips w/J. Beck playing a 7/8 double bass shuffle..........And I know John plays single bass, Jason Bohnam, who I like, plays double....ok, Class dismissed!

  • @mikeybbdrummin First, I SAID the double bass PEDAL. That is the pedal that allows the drummer to use a single bass drum with 2 beaters, the pedals connected by a long shaft allowing the left pedal to be placed by the hi hat foot. I assumed you knew what this was, my mistake. Second, I am very aware that the double bass is much older than the double pedal so, third, you should read what I write before YOU start spouting off...OK? NOW class is dismissed. I'm done arguing with you.

  • @chefjimmie1 .........double pedal is still playing double bass...........and I said he plays "doubles".......you should know what they are if your a drummer....................and I know what a double pedal is, I own one.................one of the demos was used first by Gregg Bissonette in the early 80's according to Gregg................I have said enough..................so just get back in the kitchen and make me a sandwich!!

  • @mikey OK. You asked for this! What this boils down to and the reason for the chip on your shoulder is because you probably can't play Peart and that's why you said in your earlier comment that you "throw in your own stuff that fits" Nothing "fits" in Neil Peart's songs but what Neil Peart does. There is no improving Peart so if you are throwing in your own stuff you are ruining the song. When you get to a part you can't play, you muff it and mamby pamby through the hard parts. OWNED!

  • @chefjimmie1 ...Go...go back and read what I wrote again.........I said I throw my own stuff in on the covers I play : Aerosmith, ZZ Top, Bad Company, Black Crowes, Van Halen, Steppenwolf, Foreigner and so on..........and I also said that there are certain groups/songs you have to nail note for note AND Rush Is one of them.....that ring a bell???................cause if you read it all, it should....remember Hot for Teach, Good Times Bad Times.........we've had this discussion.....pay attention!

  • @mikeybbdrummin Wow, I'd sure hate to hear your whole band if y'all are doing the improv to Rush tunes. Probably sounds like my 7 year old girl and some monkeys from down the street banging on some garbage cans, wow, I get chills thinking about it! And who you tellin pay attention? You read the first part of my comments and then start writing back without knowing what you sayin so why am I wasting my time here? Cause it's fun! You're easy to pick on ,Mikey! I enjoy it just keep it clean pls

  • @chefjimmie1 .............AGAIN........I said Rush tunes should be note for note...............My band does not play Rush tunes...........And your 7 year old must sound Great if she plays like me..........aaaahahahahaha......I got a couple of em!!

  • @mikeybbdrummin But I thought you said your band played Rush and you ad lib a lot? You know, Neil Peart. You confusin me. Because it should be played note for note not ad lib like I said. Try payin attention a little bit. Are you this confused at your job? Man, I'm glad you don't wrok fro me. You'd drive me nuts!

  • @chefjimmie1 .Wrong again.....your not very good at this game...........I did state that you have to play Rush note for note...............that I add lib (15%ish) on most covers......but there are certain tunes that require exact replica for some distinct parts; Crashes in the middle of Born to be wild, the cowbell intro to Honky Tonk Woman, the open hi-hat part on Walk This Way, the drum intro for Ozzy's Over The Mountain....and so on.............so once again, I DON"T play Rush covers.

  • @mikeybbdrummin But even if you are ad libbin, you still have to play some parts if you are playin covers like the beginning of Walk this way by Aerosmith and the double paradiddle parts in Rush Freewill. you said you play freewill, oh and the intro to Court of the Crimson King too.

  • @mikeybbdrummin and Swweet Child of Mine by G&R. I played that one too but my favorite of all time is Dream theater. Mike Portnoy now there is a drummer. He is a madman and I can't play and I won't play Dream theater tunes because I can't play parts perfectly.

  • @chefjimmie1 .................MP is a great drummer and he has his time signatures down pat!!!..........I think Mangini sounded great on the new CD and will be better next time when he has his own input...................But.My favorite is Mr. Studio Drummer Gregg Bissonette.....rock, swing, pop, prog rock, fusion...........he is so well rounded its scary.......................and he has knowledge of where/when styles evolved too.

  • @mikey Portnoy is in and out of time more than anyone I have every seen. As far as jazz...Erskine is my favorite but back a little further, Bernhard Purdie and his half time shuffle. You got that down yet? Jeff Porcaro uses it on Rosanna. I learned it, got it down but it was a bear. Contemps I like, Dave Weckel, Steve Gadd, etc. Mangini is good and he seems to fit DT but there is only one MP. Saw live, intimate nite club setting, 4 feet from Portnoy before DT took off in 92 unforgetable nite

  • @chefjimmie1 ..................Yes Mike is a master at odd times.......The shuffle is a bitch...........Got a few things w/Weckl....some older Chick Corea stuff.....love Neil a lot too......Yes Mangini is very impressive in his abilities............just saw him 2.5 weeks ago.......unreal.............speaking of night clubs....I used to set up drums for Gregg B at little jazz clubs in L.A........and I sat about 5 feet away for two 1.5 sets.............seen him live 100+ times.....amazing drummer!

  • @mikeybbdrummin Not the standard shuffle, the "half time" shuffle. The shuffle took me some time to learn but the half time shuffle took all I had as a drummer and I don't know many drummers that have mastered it. Bernhard Purdie, Jeff Porcaro, and John Bonham (Fool in the Rain) are the only pop drummers that I have heard use that groove. It is my favorite groove to play, so rhythmic and deep and played in half time so you can drag out measures and put in cool fills that really get noticed.

  • @mikeybbdrummin Check this out and you'll see what I mean... watch?v=ohlFjyCE0gA&feature=related

  • @chefjimmie1 Sorry, wrong link. go here watch?v=ohlFjyCE0gA&feature=related

  • @chefjimmie1 ..................I know the shuffle your talking about......its a tough one.......I will try it for a while then move on to something else...........This YYZ video............dont know whats cornier; The Neil hat or fake drum throw.....funny!

  • @mikeybbdrummin Remember "I think I'm going bald" from Fly by Night? That was in 1974 and Neil was thinnin out back then! No wonder he wears the hat! He probably ain't gots no mo hair!

  • @chefjimmie1 ................but I mean the guy in the video......................I give the guy credit for attempting to play Neil......but right from the get go the timing was off...................should have done take 2, 3, 4 or as many as it took to nail it before putting it on Youtube.............and that hat didn't give him any special Neil powers.

  • @mikeybbdrummin go the fuck ahead and film yourself playing this.

  • @druminforlife95 ......wow, big words for a typical punk that likes to talk like your a tough guy behind mommy and daddys back...........you really told me........haha..............go put on your proactive and get to bed.

  • Why all the bad comments? I learned how to play drums with this guy's videos. I still pretty much suck, but the videos were good.

  • I find it laughable how there are tools out there who find it necessary to find fault with things that they cannot do themselves. To the haters, please shut the fuck up! Nobody cares about your critiqs except maybe your mommies. Outstanding cover man!!

  • I love how he pulled out the neil peart cap and everything

  • @SuperNotNoob are you retarted? he wasnt supposed to throw it, thats neil pearts signature stick move. He acts like he's throwing the stick up in the air......

  • I really dig the cover, but seriously....Does EVERYONE who does a Rush cover have to have a Neil Peart-type hat? It's fairly laughable. Tribute, I guess. Even more funny to me is the fact that most Peart-a-holics have their kit set up IDENTICALLY to Neil's. Individuality works.

  • @phishinvan This guys kit is a standard 9 piece metal set up. Not even close to Neils set up. Trust me, I'm a recovering Peartaholic.

  • @philconey11 I'm a partial "Peartaholic" myself. I know this dude doesn't have his kit set up exactly like Neils, the cover is great, but look at most of the the Rush drum covers on YouTube, (I won't name names) and you'll see that they have their kits set up EXACTLY like his. Do what fits you. I understand needing a certain amount of toms, cymbals, percussion, etc....to get that sound, but set it up like you like it. Whatever makes a Peartaholic happy... I do still laugh at the hat, though...

  • @phishinvan You do have a point. Personally, I HATE HATE HATE pearts set up. I just HATE big set ups. I can do what he does on my five piece. But I can't do it nearly as well, probably because I don't have the hat. It's all in the hat. ;)

  • @philconey11 Like the old Nike? commercials in the early 90's....."It's gotta be the shoes!"

All in the hat. I hear small drum gnomes emerge from the hat whenever Neil plays and they take their place at their rightful drum/cymbal/etc... and help ole' Neil out. Or so the story goes...

  • @phishinvan It's true! If you look close you can see them emerging from the hat!

  • @philconey11 A big kit is a testosterone thing, When I played in the 80;s as a kid, I had to be surrounded by as many drums as my poor budget could handle. I even put 2 drumsets of the same relative color together with some Roto Toms and China Type and the whole nines. Now I play a 5 piece with double pedal. Does the job, sometimes tempted to buy some Roto's but for now, it is what iit is.

  • Nice hat

  • He even sort of looks like neil...

  • Hate comment on this video = jealousy of Mike's mad drumming skills. When you guys play this song put it on youtube, get 108,000 views, and have more likes than dislikes. Then maybe you can make a comment that has any real value to it.

  • MLD PRO - Major Leauge Drumming! MAKE IT A SPORT AMERICA!

  • Very well played!

  • Most of the people disliking this video obviously don't know how hard it is to play this.

  • i love the sound of his crashes...

  • At 2:56 I think he forgot to edit something so it looked like he threw the stick in the air XDDDD

  • What is on your head lol

  • Great playing and great recording. Great video and great job.

  • people on youtube dont know how to appreciate the skills of other drummers.

i mean this guy just played one of the most complicated song to play and you guys still find a way to give bad comments

    SHAME ON YOU , Ben

  • @vivelehardcore the chumps that give bad comments are just haters with no skills. they're insignificant.

  • its a great cover but not really perfect. not saying that im better but it goes a little out of beat sometimes 4/5

  • @SuperNotNoob are u just kidding or something? Cuz doing the "pretend stick throw" was a Neil Peart thing and that was why he did it. It wasn't supposed to trick us
