In Los Angeles, at Venice Beach the whole neighborhood has a gas smell and event the hotel and lifeguards called the fire department who said they couldn't find it. Then the entire coastal horizon a strange brown up and down the coast as far as the eye could see hovering above the ocean, thick dark brown...

With google maps nowadays you get three different views, you first get satellite view, then birds eye view, then streetview. If you look at the neighborhood where this happened, Crestmoor Canyon, san bruno, CA in an updated satellite view you see the destruction with rubble showing and a street destroyed. If you zoom in further it reverts to birds eye and all the homes are back. You can also streetview right by them to see the before picture.
Is there any excuse for this happening? This is just terrible. Didn't the Gas company know that putting in the gas pipes was risky? And that if one of them breaks, it can cause a huge explosion strong enought to destroy a whole neighborhood? Did they just say lets install these pipes, and let's hope(fingers crossed) that they don't break?

I did some work on PG&E gas line service trucks a year back. I always had to go find them and they where always at someone house digging up yards fixing leaking gas pipes. I never see that down here in SO CA.
It was a 51 year old gas line from pg&e that blew up because pg&e didn't want to spend a small fraction of their millions of dollars to fix the huge problem! Then again, don't blame pg&e for all of it because it was all the "smart" contractors of the homes that decided to build the neighborhood right over the gas line! Somtimes I think that California would be better of governed by a loaf of bread...

And it's not just pipe lines, there are thousands of bridges and dams just waiting to fail because they are old and in need of repairs/replacement but like I said, no one wants to do anything. I did some work on PG&E gas line service trucks a year back. I always had to go find them and they where always at someone house digging up yards fixing leaking gas pipes. I never see that down here in SO CA.

It was a 51 year old gas line from pg&e that blew up because pg&e didn't want to spend a small fraction of their millions of dollars to fix the huge problem! Then again, don't blame pg&e for all of it because it was all the "smart" contractors of the homes that decided to build the neighborhood right over the gas line! Somtimes I think that California would be better of governed by a loaf of bread...
