@NICC253 they tore it down cause it was dangerous and it was a liability to the city of lakewood and it was originally tore down and left like that for firefighter search and rescue drill area. the hillward was a dormfor the patients that worked on the farm which is what we now call ft. steilacoom park! i know cause im an MHT at western state

thats historic preservation at its finest for you, isnt it. the Graphiti and the destuction- is not fine but what you SHOULD be wondering is why they did not PRESERVE AND RESTORE it rather than WHY THEY DID NOT TEAR IT DOWN-
actually it's totally gone now, with exception of a memorial area... which i also recorded. and no i don't live in the memorial... i have my own apartment lol, which is about 20 mins away
yup..that place at night is hella creepy..we used to party up there..got to watch out now.. for the crazy people...its a fun place to get scared though..
That place was used as an "overflow" kind of deal. They decided against using it because the patients had to travel all the way over to the other building for meals and whatever else that it just became a pain.
There used to be hospital beds and stuff in the ruins but kids and people wrecked it all.Hope that answers some of your questions. Check the history of lakewood out online. Western State used to look pretty awesome
Search and rescue use it now as a training ground. It is to be cleaned up within the next few years because of possible liability. The fence to get in has been cut for years. There was also a gang calling themselves the Juggalos. Their inspiration coming from the Insane Clown Posse. It's creepy as hell at night and there are some pretty nasty people and things that go on in there. Watch out for people in trench coats. They can be a little creepy.
its hella scary there, i went there about six months ago and didnt even get up into the actual hopsital area, because of the icp kids. they are freaky as hell. thank god they didnt see us. So after a night of tripping on coricidin we ended up sleeping in the huge big play toy nearby.
