  • Living in The Netherlands, I find it hard to beleve that cyclists drive on the road...

  • He ran a stop sign at 0:51 =D

  • @UberFAKnNooB

    that's not a stop sign !!

  • paul cummings. that is all

  • i got exact that XTR rear derailleur on one of my bikes. it's about 17 years old, but is still works perfectly!

  • Pause at 2:50 LOL.

  • Ha Ha! Dick you see th\t big fat banker pr@ck sitting in his hideous bloated sports car and the look on his face when the cyclist lent on his paintwork! Imagine how he actually treats his employees/servants at home when he is off camera!! In fact I wonder how fat he is now and how fit the cyclist guy is!

  • there is nothing better than blowing a porsche 911 turbo's door off in downtown traffic. So dangerous though

  • Love it at 1:36 when he puts his hand on the aston's door and the drivers looks at his hand like "Fucking dare you touch this car, peasant..!" hehehe

  • im sorry but the bike is stupid the most exspensive component on that bike is the fucking badge

  • yeah, but who is going to land the chicks

  • @naughteedesign probably the skinny and fit cyclist?

  • Muc off with all the gratuitous product endorsements! Didn't you all make enough money the first time round? What exactly does this video prove anyway? A cycle is faster in town than a car if there are enough shortcuts/traffic? Wow. Who'd thunk it? Bet you'd get a different result at dead of night in the rain though, eh. Crikey.

  • boycot videos with commercials that shit is for TV.

  • pimp aston!

  • bike vs car is tough anyway lol

  • your just 100x more likely to die riding the bike....

  • sport car or not is the same in city ,difference is on track !!

  • @Abdelhak92izi but you use it more on the road than on a track

  • Wow I miss them days. The roads just looked so much nicer.

  • hahah the fat guy is driving the car

  • hahaha a bike like that is now worth about 100 Euros

  • How shit does the bike look now! No discs or decent forks!! The frame sucks too! At least cars become classics!

  • That is a FUCK-UGLY car!

  • @vaug4116 not a great taste you have then

  • @wrcfreak2121 that is a city bike not a Freeride bike

  • £3500 for that peice of shyte bike.......dream on, and he reckons they were selling, dream on mofo.....good vid though, why should the car dominate our roads. Ditch the car an get cycling, quicker and keeps the arteries clear..

  • A mountain bike in the city - Sheer stupidity, gee why dont we go skiing down the highway

  • lol the bike can just go past all the trafic take a bicycle vs motorcycle!;)

  • dats one ugly car

  • rip off central!

  • lmao that bikes a piece of shit for 3500 POUNDS

  • £3500 ahahahaha its got fuckin MTB knoblies on it!?

  • Next time carry a passenger and two crates of wine.

  • @digbycurrents reality is that most people drive by themselves....at least here with all the fatties in America lol

  • terribly ugly cycle! that thing looks like its from wal-mart, or dunhams.

  • seems cars everyonce in a while go in with bike makers...i know ferarri and bianchi and with colnago happend...but the thing is sadly your paying for the name on the paint..also everyone knows bikes are faster than cars in urban situations..we can get into areas and around cars with out problems...im trying to find bike vs horse vids..

  • ok for some but what if ya wanted to wear a suit good luck staying clean on a bike

  • Most buisness places here in Calgary have locker rooms and showers. Half the buisness suit types ride bikes to work here and they change before work.

Even if they dont get to work faster the lead a more productive day. Due to reduced stress and better balance of brain chemicals due to excersize.

  • @fuzzydeer - as a former Calgary suit type who cycled to work, i can honestly say that comment cannot be farther from the truth. I worked downtown and there were approximately 15 regular users of bike storage cage in the car park of my 35+ storey tower. A good bit from "half."

  • @fuzzydeer High five for calgary

  • Yeah exactly. Try Glasgow to London and see who wins then. Were they trying to make some sort of point?

  • They have done that, and the bike won again

  • I ride and have a shower when im there.

  • That was absolutely retarded

  • this is stupid. This is city dependent and hour dependent. I go to work in the morning and I am faster than cars with my bike. Then after rush hour cars pass me like a fking pole on the ground.

  • put some raod tyres on your shit bike

  • Then the bike will win by more. The point really is, a crap bike will beat a fast car.

  • i do this all the time but without running reds and having a little traffic its hard

  • with a proper roaddie he could have went so much faster

  • stfu

  • you can see what you said... just click 'Reply' and you can see what you wrote. you said: "RUN HIM OVER!"

    lol

  • Hahahaha. That's pretty funny. No wonder I said it.

  • TOP GEAR ripped this off!

  • is he saying, that this bike was made by chas roberts?

  • That bike is like £3000. Just for being 3 pounds lighter? I bet I can beat him on my $60 buck bike (of already 12000 miles). I do like 5 miles a day of steep uphill cycling so I've got a chance don't I?

  • They tried doing one on your side of the Atlantic but the fat b******s kept stopping for burgers & they were both so stupid they couldn't find the finish line

  • i dont get it... the steering wheel is on the wrong side..... and everyone's teeth are f'd up......and everyone's skinny.....wtf is this?

  • It's not on the wrong side in other countries thats how their cars are made. They drive on what we would call the wrong side of the road considering your American like me.

  • Cock! At least we're not all biggotted wankers.

  • obviously you all are retarded if you can't get that joke....

    ass

  • everyones skinny compared to fat yanks like you!

  • £3000 for that? I'd buy it for a fiver.

  • HAHA im a lil older & if thay yell out i usualy put the chase on till i cach up with em, interesting look in there eyes when your heads in the windo yelling back at em. & why didnt he get the fat bloke to ride the bike ?? be more even

  • when i dodge in n out of traffic like that i get yelled at cuz im only 18 so people yell, bloody kids!

  • Christ, why'd you have the rider use something slow like a flat bar MTB with fat tires...

Road bike with gears on 23c tyres would've destroyed him.

  • hurrrrr, this isnt the tour de france. its just a fun competition, and (correct me if im wrong) the theme would seem to me to be Aston Martin, just maybe?

P.S stoplights exist in cities. no room for top speed. a BMX could have won.

  • The rider, not the bike.

  • me to

  • Repeat: no traffic violations were made in the making of this 1994 video. Repeat: 1994. The cost of the bike was the cost of the bike in 1994. It was a bike for Aston Martin owners so overpriced. The piece was a link between two Aston Martin's. The bike came with that kit and tyres. Sure, it could have been made even faster for the city, but it was used as is.

  • I used to beat the school bus to my girlfriend's house right after school. I would take off in my Trek 820 at the same time she got picked up. And I always got there first.

It was like at least a five mile ride maybe more.

I would make it there like in fifteen minutes or so.

I used to pump that bike so hard and it would put up to all the abuse I gave it.

That was when I fell in love with cycling and I have been loyal to Trek ever since.

I do like Gary Fishers though.

  • The thing you guys seem to be ignoring is that this bike is not suited at all to road riding. It's a mountain bike.

I could have done a better job on a cheaper bike from the 70s.

  • Rubbish. It's not a hard core MTB but a hard-tail with light components and only limited suspension. It's actually pretty perfect for city streets where one need to do slalom and also handle all sorts of bumps. Only thing not perfect is the tires which should have been slicks.

  • Sure it has a hard tail, but it's still got suspension front forks, and the tires are not only knobbly, but too wide. He's also using upright handlebars rather than drops.

My point isn't that it's not a good bike, my point is that there's older, cheaper bikes that are better suited to a road race than this one.

  • You forget this is a CITY road race. Short distance, little wind and a need for fast change of direction. The low aerodynamic riding position and low drag wheels means nothing in the city since there isn't room for top speed anyway.

And the suspension is not a problem in fact if the roads are less than pool table flat then it just helps maintain control in bumpy corners.

I ride all sorts of bike and my road race bike is totally wrong in the city. A MTB with slicks is pretty much perfect.

  • Guys, it's not about the bike.

  • the video is from 1994, no one had discs!

  • What kind of car is that ? Everybody know ?

  • Aston Martin V8 Vantage Volante

You can buy a good one for like £70,000

  • Utter rubbish, not a patch on a Carlton or Hetchins. Bikes for tossers with no brains and too much money . . .

  • On the other hand, burning a red light on a bike only puts the biker in jeopardy, while doing it on a car puts the others users of the road in jeopardy.

Futhermore, a biker has a much better sight of the crossing : estimate hazard is piece of cake, while on a car you may have to go up a little bit in the crossing (with the hood), which is very dangerous.

But of course, each crossing is different...

The main problem is that in a lot of countries, rules of the road are rules of the car...

  • Burning a red light on a bike puts more than just the rider at risk. How about ped's or maybe the mental condition of the motorist who flattens the biker?

I will give you that it is less risky on a bike but bikes can still put other users in jeopardy.

  • Well. You're right indeed.

I was just a little bit annoyed by this comment about security while nobody gives a shit about that in commenting videos of road pursuits or speed records on freeway.

By the way, just one thing : I've never heard in France about bikers killing pedestrians. So, I agree, the risk is real, but it becomes a reality seldom if ever.

  • Ill have another look, they have done this before though with bike obeying aa the rules, bike still wins

  • Being a cyclist myself, I was a little infuriated that he did not obey the laws of the road and it is no wonder that he did what he did. Damn fool gives cyclists a bad name if he is going to do it that way. I mean running through a red light, had he done that on 4 wheels he would have been cautioned at the least. At least respect the other road users squire!

  • He didn't run any red lights, I only saw him go through a green (this was also confirmed in the comments by the guy in the video!) The one way thing had contra-flow for buses and bikes, this was clearly shown.

  • the pedals are shit

    it has shit suspension

    dosnt have disc brakes

and u pay 3,500 for that.

    haha

its a rip off like their cars.

  • Disc brakes in 1994? Of course not. I must agree £3500 is a bit steep fhough, XTR kit or not!

  • Idiot

  • Looks like a nice bike. Porsche, BMW, and Mercedes Benz have all had bikes made, and they were all crap. Lotus made some awesome track bikes.

  • Stupid

  • There were no traffic violations made in the making of the video. We were very strict about that.

  • @carltonreid That's bull, of course there were traffic violations in this vid. Neither of them stopped where it says STOP when exiting the car park, the cyclist is in the WRONG lane at 0:54, splits lanes at 1:00, overtakes a car waiting at a red light at 1:14. That's just the violations you put in your video... just tell us again just how strict you were about that.....

  • @oraclepw The point was that the cyclist wasn't getting an unfair advantage by breaking laws that the driver was following, e.g. jumping red lights or riding on the pavement. Most of the things you mentioned are not offences at all in the UK; even the questionable act at 0:54; Rule 130: "if the area is bordered by a broken white line, you should not enter the area unless it is necessary and you can see that it is safe to do so" - a car could equally have done this if there was room for it.

  • that bike is NOT worth 3,500 pounds... or have bikes really come down in cost in the last 10 years?

  • king git us - please read your comments back to yourself or get another arsehole to read to you. You might then realise your comments don't make sense. No offence, well not much. I'll read what I wrote now. Yep, mine makes sense.

  • A top end bike (like that one was back in '94) will now cost you upwards of 5k. Think about it mate.

  • Well - anything MTB has. My first first full suspension bike cost me a bit over the 3500£ with fx. the fork alone costing something like 800£. That was in 1998 and now a bike with more suspension travel, similar quality of gear, good hydraulic disc brakes and perhaps 15-20% less pounds on the weight scale will cost about half.

A copy of the bike show should be about a 1000£ plus the Aston badge. And the current XTR series is a lot better.

  • 1.14 the bike goes through a red light.

  • You don't see it so you don't know! Looks like the cyclist is slowing down to stop to me. If it was carlton riding the bike I'd be pretty sure he'd stop for a red light.

  • They are doing this same type of race here in Portland today to kick off national bicycle month.

    Go bikes!
