Do you have a video that you have in slow motion, so I can see exactly what you are doing, or could you give me a brief description. It beautiful and i would love to make one but I need your help. Thanks
Hi! i really want to learn how i can do that.. but i dont know how star.. i mean.. you put the video really fast.. and i cant see how you do it.. i dont know read patterns.. i learn how to do crochet see you videos.. i really wanna learn.. :(
This is beautiful. I like the white edging you put on. It helps define the edge. It would be so cool to see something like this with each row made in a different color, do help define how the increases multiply row by row.
hay could i possibly please have the pattern for this
i usually knit beanies and they look alot like this but i havent crochet before and highly want to learn i love this even if it isnt ment to be a beanie look at the potential!!!!! the point!!
@joy4569 Hi there! - Sorry for taking a while to reply to your comment. I have a list of items waiting to be made into tutorials, and this is definitely one of them. I try to go on demand, this may well be the next one to have a tutorial, so stay tuned, and your feedback is greatly appreciated, cheers!!
my geometry class is doing this for this really cool project. i'm doing a circle-shaped coral (like this one i think). but it looks more like a baby sock. :/ or one of those "tube" corals. i don't know how to "increase" the stitches.
@falalaxfearless Hi there! Thanks for your comment. That's so great that you are doing this in school, it must be fun to learn about! You increase at a constant rate. The crochet is one spiral, as long as you choose a rate of increase (Like 1 in 2 or 1 in 3) and don't change, you will create a hyperbolic form. So start with a couple of stitches, then increase (say 1 in 3) like this: single - single - 2 into one - single - single - 2 into one - and repeat. It will start to crenellate after a bit.
@Bookworm51485 Hi there! Thanks so much for your comment. Let me assure you that it is so much easier than it looks! I have a couple of videos to make, then this ones on the list. cheers.
Hey carriellbee! Thanks for your feedback. I've been a bit slack here, it's on the list of vids to make. About number 2 or 3 at the moment. Watch this space!
Hi there mpert, yes it is worked as one continuous 'spiral'. The increase rate is up to you, as long as it's constant. One into each stitch, will increase very quickly, and give you a nice ruffled form. Good luck!
Very interesting. I've researched these undulations in fabric. In crochet I understand you increase" too much" compared to what you would do to have a flat surface.
I have seen an exhibition online the pieces on display were stunning. Are you the woman whose husband is a mathematician?
Hi imawesome267! I'm planning to make a "Hyperbolic How-to" that would be slower. This footage is 152 minutes in its' entirety so it was sped up purely to show one being made from start to finish and so you can see the form emerging. Thanks for your feedback! Cheers.
to make one of these do you simply do 2 stitches in the third space, all the way around? this will be enough of an "increase"? or do you INCREASE the increase after each row?
Hi GalvaTRION - Simply put, this Pseudosphere is made in one continuous SPIRAL starting with just a couple of stitches (in a loop). You can choose any increase rate you like, it's just important to stick to it. You can choose any stitch, single, double, treble, doesn't matter though it can change the look or firmness. Once you choose your increase rate eg 1 in 3 that would mean every third stitch you crochet 2 stitches into the same space, continue increasing to get a true Hyperbolic form.
thanks for that...i have a bright yellow, orange and red varegated yarn that will be great.....what do you do with it when your done? what uses? or is it just sculpture.....
That yarn sounds perfect, it will give a nice fiery effect. I contributed to a Hyperbolic Crochet Coral Reef project started by the Institute for Figuring, worth looking up as there may be a reef project you can join or at least send something too! Happy crafting! (These are a great talking point too - fun as sculpture!)
Hey spankses! I most certainly have! You can choose any rate of increase you like. I've done 2 stitches in every stitch, 1 in 2, 1 in 3, working on a 1 in 5. The closer the increase the faster the waves and curls appear. My Flickr page has lots of examples my user name there is Quoin. Try 1 in 2 for a faster result! Happy crafting!
Wow! This coral shape is beautiful, even if it looks so complicated, but may be easier to make it by crocheting..But by googling pseudosphere it has another shape. Is there a formula for this woollen coral also?
Yes there is. You crochet about 3 chain, then join in a ring. Crochet in a spiral, and increase at a constant rate of your choosing. For example 1 in 3. This would mean every 3rd stitch, you would crochet 2 stitches into 1. If you keep increasing at this constant rate you will get a hyperbolic pseudosphere. Happy crafting!!
I'd be happy to, but it goes for 152 minutes. I really thought about what length people would be happy to watch, but I'm going to make another video on HOW to make one. They are very simple, you keep the rate of increase constant. I hope this helps, and I hope you enjoying making one!
I would be happy to, but it goes for 152 minutes. I gave a lot of thought about what time to speed it up to. I'm going to make another video on HOW to make one. You can subscribe to get a notification. Thanks for your comment!
Thanks Beth, yes I actually donated it to the Reef a couple of weeks ago! I'm busy making more things for the Reef. You know you can donate your own crochet item to the reef too!
Please share the step by step tutorial, or the pattern. Thank you.
