  • Please share the step by step tutorial, or the pattern. Thank you.

  • Do you have a video that you have in slow motion, so I can see exactly what you are doing, or could you give me a brief description. It beautiful and i would love to make one but I need your help. Thanks

  • Do you have a pattern for this.? Would love to try it.

  • Do you start with a circle? Like a magic circle?

  • Hi! i really want to learn how i can do that.. but i dont know how star.. i mean.. you put the video really fast.. and i cant see how you do it.. i dont know read patterns.. i learn how to do crochet see you videos.. i really wanna learn.. :(

  • Love this but I need a pattern lol I was so excited to see this and then I went what???? Can you tell me the pattern please? Thanks

  • which style is this

  • Would love to learn how to make this.can't wait for the tutorial!!!

  • This makes me smile because I was trying to crochet a hat once and that is the way it turned out.

  • This is beautiful. I like the white edging you put on. It helps define the edge. It would be so cool to see something like this with each row made in a different color, do help define how the increases multiply row by row.

  • ugh my carpal tunnel! i love this!

  • i know nothing about hyperbolic things so can someone explain what it is that make things hyperbolic?

  • hay could i possibly please have the pattern for this

i usually knit beanies and they look alot like this but i havent crochet before and highly want to learn i love this even if it isnt ment to be a beanie look at the potential!!!!! the point!!

  • This looks like so much fun!! I SO want to make one, but I have no idea how... maybe you could tell on your blog?

  • @joy4569 Hi there! - Sorry for taking a while to reply to your comment. I have a list of items waiting to be made into tutorials, and this is definitely one of them. I try to go on demand, this may well be the next one to have a tutorial, so stay tuned, and your feedback is greatly appreciated, cheers!!

  • Thats cool how long did it take you to do that and not the speeded version of 5:20

  • @Boudica999 it took her 152 min. and 52 sec. it says in the description. :D

  • @Boudica999 That's right - 152 minutes!!! I had about 4 breaks during filming...whew!!

  • my geometry class is doing this for this really cool project. i'm doing a circle-shaped coral (like this one i think). but it looks more like a baby sock. :/ or one of those "tube" corals. i don't know how to "increase" the stitches.

  • @falalaxfearless Hi there! Thanks for your comment. That's so great that you are doing this in school, it must be fun to learn about! You increase at a constant rate. The crochet is one spiral, as long as you choose a rate of increase (Like 1 in 2 or 1 in 3) and don't change, you will create a hyperbolic form. So start with a couple of stitches, then increase (say 1 in 3) like this: single - single - 2 into one - single - single - 2 into one - and repeat. It will start to crenellate after a bit.

  • @SHOPETSY what was the rate of increase for this model? i love the size and shape of it.

  • Pretty cool. Hyperbolic crochet kind of intimidates me a bit but I want to try it one day.

  • @Bookworm51485 Hi there! Thanks so much for your comment. Let me assure you that it is so much easier than it looks! I have a couple of videos to make, then this ones on the list. cheers.

  • I'd like to see a slowed-down tutorial of how to actually make one. I can't find one online anywhere...

  • Hey carriellbee! Thanks for your feedback. I've been a bit slack here, it's on the list of vids to make. About number 2 or 3 at the moment. Watch this space!

  • I'll do that. Thanks!

  • Wonderful work, both the crochet AND the video. Many thanks.

  • Thank-you so much! I appreciate your support, cheers.

  • Is this just working in the round, increasing one sc in each stitch?

  • Hi there mpert, yes it is worked as one continuous 'spiral'. The increase rate is up to you, as long as it's constant. One into each stitch, will increase very quickly, and give you a nice ruffled form. Good luck!

  • Very interesting. I've researched these undulations in fabric. In crochet I understand you increase" too much" compared to what you would do to have a flat surface.

I have seen an exhibition online the pieces on display were stunning. Are you the woman whose husband is a mathematician?

  • Sorry!!! The original video is very long, but thanks for your feedback. I'm intending on making a how-to video - cheers!!

  • thank you. I would like to see the slower version.

  • OMG I feel dizzy! I know the video is long, but could you just show the beginning in slow motion? Thanks

  • people make fun of me but i tell them guys were the originals! hehe

  • thnx people make fun of me caaause i crochet it drives me nuts! so i tell them that guys were the originals! muahahahaha! then they get mad hehehehee

  • They have no idea what they are missing out on!!! Don't get mad - get crocheting!!!

  • thanks! your awesome you know... im 11? and a guy yay me! hehehehe

  • No worries!

  • to fast!!!! could u make it slower?

  • Hi imawesome267! I'm planning to make a "Hyperbolic How-to" that would be slower. This footage is 152 minutes in its' entirety so it was sped up purely to show one being made from start to finish and so you can see the form emerging. Thanks for your feedback! Cheers.

  • okay...I am not very quick on the up-take...

to make one of these do you simply do 2 stitches in the third space, all the way around? this will be enough of an "increase"? or do you INCREASE the increase after each row?

  • Hi GalvaTRION - Simply put, this Pseudosphere is made in one continuous SPIRAL starting with just a couple of stitches (in a loop). You can choose any increase rate you like, it's just important to stick to it. You can choose any stitch, single, double, treble, doesn't matter though it can change the look or firmness. Once you choose your increase rate eg 1 in 3 that would mean every third stitch you crochet 2 stitches into the same space, continue increasing to get a true Hyperbolic form.

  • thanks for that...i have a bright yellow, orange and red varegated yarn that will be great.....what do you do with it when your done? what uses? or is it just sculpture.....

  • That yarn sounds perfect, it will give a nice fiery effect. I contributed to a Hyperbolic Crochet Coral Reef project started by the Institute for Figuring, worth looking up as there may be a reef project you can join or at least send something too! Happy crafting! (These are a great talking point too - fun as sculpture!)

  • have you tried a higher rate of increase? do you get faster results?

  • Hey spankses! I most certainly have! You can choose any rate of increase you like. I've done 2 stitches in every stitch, 1 in 2, 1 in 3, working on a 1 in 5. The closer the increase the faster the waves and curls appear. My Flickr page has lots of examples my user name there is Quoin. Try 1 in 2 for a faster result! Happy crafting!

  • Wow! This coral shape is beautiful, even if it looks so complicated, but may be easier to make it by crocheting..But by googling pseudosphere it has another shape. Is there a formula for this woollen coral also?

  • Yes there is. You crochet about 3 chain, then join in a ring. Crochet in a spiral, and increase at a constant rate of your choosing. For example 1 in 3. This would mean every 3rd stitch, you would crochet 2 stitches into 1. If you keep increasing at this constant rate you will get a hyperbolic pseudosphere. Happy crafting!!

  • its to fast!!

  • The original film is 152 minutes!!! This is to show you how a pseudosphere grows from the start, hope you enjoyed it anyway!!! ;)

  • O_O is there any way of seeing this slowed down?

  • I'd be happy to, but it goes for 152 minutes. I really thought about what length people would be happy to watch, but I'm going to make another video on HOW to make one. They are very simple, you keep the rate of increase constant. I hope this helps, and I hope you enjoying making one!

  • I would be happy to, but it goes for 152 minutes. I gave a lot of thought about what time to speed it up to. I'm going to make another video on HOW to make one. You can subscribe to get a notification. Thanks for your comment!

  • Gosh how is the RSI??? ha ha

love what you have done... is it going to be part of the Coral Reef display.... B

  • Thanks Beth, yes I actually donated it to the Reef a couple of weeks ago! I'm busy making more things for the Reef. You know you can donate your own crochet item to the reef too!

  • holy caramba! you are awesome!!

  • Hey thanks! I'm hoping to put up some more videos soon, lots of ideas to go!

  • id love to know how to do this! are there instructions anywhere online? or could you do a tutorial maybe?.. it's so impressive.

  • Thank-you! I'm really glad you enjoyed it!

  • now THAT's cool!
