  • She's everybody's sister

She's a symbolic of our failure

  • Profound :).

  • ha! People and their fucking "messages", we can't even recite the pledge to the flag, without ruffling the feathers of some local jerk off, yet we're going to ponder waters and his so called profound commentary on china, what a joke, liberals in a fucking barrell, that's the irony of it all

  • It's funny how at the very intellectual end of music the messages are misconstrued and almost entirely lost. Waters is actually only using the death of an insignificant individual in history to mock western society in general. It frustrates me that intellectualism in art is never properly understood.

I am an ardent fan of Floyd, but Amused to Death is the best album Waters has EVER had involvement in. Better than Dark Side, better than The Wall, better than Animals. You've been amused to death

  • Mmm indeed!!

  • mmm !

  • hey sad vid, yellow shine on, price of democracy never comes cheap......but we all have to solider on for the cause.....one day we will all be as one...john lennon god bless him and all for the better, be free everyone, you know it makes perfect sence!

  • Do not EVER let the US gov't lie to you about that freedom crap. They don't give a damn about freedom. If they did, they'd be in China, Zimbabwe, Australia, and they would've been in Afghanistan AT LEAST five years earlier. And, to be fair, they'd be in the US. Anybody's that's "totally gay for america" is free to respond with stupid crap.

  • The greatest CD u could ever buy ,,Roger the greatest man alive pure genius of our time

  • I think you missed the point, Syd Pring. Yes, one element of the song is the attempt to create a more complete picture of the victim than what the media may portray, but any criticism of the 'western media' must be tempered by an understanding of what the Chinese media and government is really like. If you've ever lived in both China and a Western country -- as I have -- you will realise how totalitarian and propagandistic their government is.

  • the yellow rose is trying to blossim again in lyiba

  • Yes Roger I will shed a tear for your yellow rose

  • 3:37 - 3:43 Did we do anything after this? I've a feeling we did. Can anyone tell me where this is from please? Or was it solely done for this track? Thanks

  • @PRINCE23062003 I believe he is referring to western Government's response to the massacre..!!!! It Could be taken from a movie or Documentary as Roger Waters often does this. hope this may help..!!!!

  • Awsome tune good video

  • p.p.s oops 8) i missed the meaning myself... the same oppression that is/was happening in China is/was happening in the USA. we are/were watching TV.

  • p.s. still, i think showing the girl in the video is right at the song's meaning... she can help us to be free, because the world can empathize with her, because we can see her and what happened.

  • I think China was the least of roger's concerns when he wrote this song. I actually think he's trying to be sarcastic.... The song's more concerned with western medias coverage or this than anything... This is particularly clear at the end of the song... I Love the ACTUAL message of this song.. thumbs up to song. thumbs down to the video which misses the point completely. I wonder if people actually listen to the verse sometimes.. repeatedly SHOWING the girl is the exact opposite of the message!

  • @SydPring yeah it's much bigger than just China. Roger Waters, injecting some common sense sociology into culture. And of course, it gets misunderstood.

  • @SydPring your onto somethin here ....whens the last time we werent watchin t.v. and it was live.....here on OUR soil........ya hit the nail right on the head.......great listenin.....great interpretation.....i apologize that i had to let the cat outta the bag but im more sorry for people that don't comprehend what's really happening...no?and wait till they're watchin t.v.

  • @SydPring your onto somethin here ....whens the last time we werent watchin t.v. and it was live.....here on OUR soil........ya hit the nail right on the head.......great listenin.....great interpretation.....i apologize that i had to let the cat outta the bag but im more sorry for people that don't comprehend what's really happening...no?and wait till they're watchin t.v. ........and we talk about HITLER AND STALIN.......yet aren't we killin innocent woman and children now?

  • @SydPring The Least Of His Concern, u must be very young? or have no Memory of What Took place at Tienanmen Square, And can u tell me why he continues to refer to My YELLOW ROSE ..!!!!

  • @SydPring How exactly is showing the woman contrary to the song's message? If China was "the least of roger's concerns" and the whole thing just about media coverage then why does he go through the whole history lesson regarding Mao Tse-tung, Chiang Kai-shek etc.? I don't see where the last line of the song makes your case at all... the last verse of the song treats the woman as a martyr ("she's everybody's sister, she's symbolic of our failure..") I don't think that was "sarcastic" at all...

  • There was nothing wrong BTW with western media coverage of the Tienanmen Square massacre... There was something wrong with China's "coverage" of those tragic events which they used to convince most Chinese that the student demonstrators were the ones being violent...

Thumbs up for the song and vid... maybe you should create an alternative video portraying your version of the song's message instead of denigrating this one...

  • @SydPring Thumbs up! Astute observation. This is just like that Neda girl in Iran. "She died on T.V."

  • Don Henley of the Eagles on background vocals

  • Roger Waters is Tops on my List

  • beautiful song a beautiful tribute to a brave girl

  • thanks Roger

  • Video very nicely done, although the pictures cannot really compete with the imagery of the song itself.

  • Roger waters forever

  • is this the official video?

  • this is still my favourite waters song

  • I listened to this CD when it 1st was released and it is even more meaningful now as I have matured and have my own child today. Great post, great vid. RW deserves mention in the same sentence as Bob Dylan, John Lennon, Leonard Cohen...there, I just did it!!!

  • @igluver15 BIG APPLAUSE FROM ME ,WATERS HAS GOT THE MAGIC OF DYLAN ,COHEN,LENNON ,AND JIM CROCE,LOU REED, MAGIC IN ITS TRUEST SENSE ,,

  • @igluver15 recipricate this onto our soil and see if this song makes sense then

  • Comment removed

  • @igluver15 I Agree so much with yr 1st 2 singer songwriters, I will have 2 Listen 2 Leonard Cohen as I Have Heard Very Little By Him..!!!! (Tks 4 The Tip)

  • @igluver15 Totally agree, when I first listen to the album, I thought to my self "what in the world is this all about", but like RW said in at interview, it takes repeated listenings to actually get the message, and it is a wonderful album no doubt.

  • A poignant song, and Don Henley from the Eagles singing with Roger.

  • absolutely brilliant stuff

  • ...superb

  • True, monitors don't count.
