White, black, Asian and Hispanic Mormons mingle before the service begins. As it gets under way, an African-American tween plays a video game on his smartphone in one pew as a 30-something white woman across the aisle taps away on her iPad.
On this Sunday, the Sacrament - what Mormons call the remembrance of the Last Supper and what other Christians call Communion - is said in French, a nod to the area's burgeoning West African population.
Yes, there are white missionaries handing out bulletins at Washington's Third Ward - what Mormons call their congregations - but there's also Ruth Williams, an elderly African-American woman, decked out in her Sunday best, doing the same.
I thought he "supposably" read the gold plates and seer stones in a hat or something. And if no one else saw what he was translating, how do we know he's even really translating and not making it all up? If he did say he met God and Christ, why is it that there is no actual physical proof of that? Living in our time, if you make a claim, you must have evidence. Living in his time, people would believe anything, that anyone says. like "You're a witch!! BURN!" How do we really know he's honest
I am grateful for this opportunity to greet you as we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. The prophet Isaiah spoke of Him centuries before His birth: “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
While the Christmas season is typically a time for looking back and celebrating the birth of our Lord, it seems to me that it should also be a time of looking to the future. Let us look forward. Let us prepare for that blessed day when He will come again. Let us be as wise as those ancients who watched for His coming. As His disciples, let us have in our hearts and minds the words of John: “Even so, come, Lord Jesus.
We live in the 11th hour before the coming of the day of our Lord. Let us therefore look forward to that blessed day when the King of kings descends with a shout,6 takes away death, dries up tears, and ushers in a new era of peace, joy, and learning.
Brothers and sisters, 2,000 years later we also stand as His disciples. We are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The term latter-day is significant. We live and serve in a time prior to the Lord’s triumphant return. Our work is to prepare ourselves and the world for the coming of the Messiah in glory!
Third, look steadfastly for His coming. The early disciples of Jesus Christ yearned for the time when He would come again. For them, mortality was a time of preparation and growth, of sifting and refining, a time for trimming their lamps and preparing for the return of their beloved Savior.
Let it be a time to ponder the Atonement of Jesus Christ and its meaning for each of us personally. Let it especially be a time of renewal and recommitment to live by the word of God and to obey His commandments. By doing this, we honor Him far more than we ever could with lights, gifts, or parties.
Perhaps the Grinch’s story is so memorable because, if we are honest, we may be able to relate to him. Who among us has not felt concern over the commercialization and even greed of the Christmas season?
The Grinch, that memorable character from a classic children’s story by Dr. Seuss, had a heart that “was two sizes too small,” and he hated everything about Christmas. Through the course of the story, however, he undergoes a dramatic transformation when he learns that there is more to Christmas than decorations and gifts.
@omiolo .God is truth and Satan is lies Joseph smith. smith was a satanic cult member with his satanic rituals he was not a man of god but a man of Satan he told lies his whole life and had weak minded followers like yourself . Joseph smith was no different than any other cult leader that tried to make people worship him. open you eyes and see the truth. its your choice if you want to follow god or Satan its you choice if you want to go to heaven or hell. i hope you make the right choice
It began as an ordinary morning on San Francisco's East Bay four years ago, when I stumbled on another verification of the authenticity of the Book of Mormon.
What would you say if someone were to tell you their were demons by the thousands in the mormon church?
What would you say if someone told you that Satan was in the house and animals of the people who attend the mormon church and are members who visit the temple on a regular basis?
What would you say to someone who told you that the mormon church practiced sadistic rituals and handshakes in the Mormon Temples?
I can only interpret that as second ward (who has excommunciated me non member style) calling me a "spirit of contention" Fortunately I did not google this phrase until Wednesday. The 1st definition is true in that I am questioning what you believe (but seriously what is wrong and bad about that) the 4th definition is incorrect as it calls me 'of the devil' or 'satan'
Now since I have cast out demons by the thousands in the lds churches and since a cat possessed by Satan was staring me down and it's eyes will haunt me for the rest of my life and since I have been attacked by demons in my own home before it was protected in November....
well for whatever reason...makes me wonder....This is how it goes
God is here and He is about to make Himself known
I want you and Theldslife and my friends here in town going to heaven not hell
I am under the impression that you belive you will be a god of your own planet one day which is a very similar story that Satan (the serpent) told Adam and Eve in the garden of eden
apparently there is no such thing and you will either go to heaven or go to hell
there is not second chance.
check out the 23 Minutes in Hell video on my homepage
and also check out this site dot av1611 dot org/hell dot html
I recognize that I bother you randomly when I can't find other mormons to talk to but seriously I hope you remember me when you are in hell because I want you going to heaven
you are obsessed with power and control and esteem...get over it! start talking to God and give Him the glory will ya your eternal life is what is in jepordy here
oh yeah you don't care about eternal life...sorry bout that
What many non-Mormons are seeing though is that the faith is growing. Last year over 8,000 people joined the Church in the Pacific Area, helping the worldwide Church move closer towards 14 million adherents. . .
Last fall, Wiley brought together more than a dozen artists (including members of Neon Trees, Atherton, Paul Jacobsen & the Madison Arm, The Mollies, Sarah Sample, Fictionist, and more) to put their own spin on century-old hymns. The group, known as The Lower Lights, spent five days in Wiley's Provo studio, recording nearly 40 songs -- almost entirely live.
@omiolo Joseph Smith served satan and you do to . i serve god your church was built on satanic lies of a man that didn't receive any word from god . i will pray that god will lead you to the truth and release satans hold on you
The Mormon church is full of Demons. I have seen them personally and have had to pray over places for a year now....I even think Satan was looking at me himself at one of the mormon houses....sorry Epic I am sure you didn't want to know but it is so intense and real
Few, if any, new leadership callings are expected during this weekend. No vacancies exist in the First Presidency or Quorum of the Twelve — where the combined 15 men revered by Mormons as prophets, seers and revelators serve in lifelong callings — and most new calls to the Quorums of the Seventy have been sustained more recently in April conferences.
"I asked them what hymn they would like to sing for our dedicatory service. With no sense of irony, they said, 'How Firm a Foundation,'" he said, smiling.
"They themselves, with their faith, are on a very firm foundation."
@calebd90 actually Joseph Smith was one of the MOST honest people this world has known. No matter of torture, hardship, discomfort or even death could get him to LIE and your types tried. I am guessing you would be crying and promising to say whatever after being tortured.
President Cecil O. Samuelson, of the Seventy and president of Brigham Young University, spoke to the graduates about the importance of optimism.
"We live in an age of uncertainty and considerable challenges that can be very distressing should we allow them to be so," President Samuelson said. "But, regardless of difficult economic times and other challenges facing societies today, graduates have reason to stay optimistic."
BRANSON, Mo. — Sometimes fate will take you by the hand and lead you somewhere without you even realizing it.
It's only when you look back that you notice.
Some of the Mormon families that perform in Branson didn't call it fate when they spoke of their gradual emergence onto the stages there — many called it the hand of the Lord.
"They had to give up their daily comforts and go on this 1,300-mile journey to find somewhere safe to practice their beliefs," said Katey Mathis. "I don't think I could do it personally. It amazes me how strong they were."
"I'm amazed they had enough faith to keep walking even when it seemed impossible," said Tori Jones. "They knew the Lord would provide for them and it shows a great will of strength."
The monument to the Mormon Battalion and the surrounding area has been refurbished after significant contributions of time and funds by Church members here. The large memorial plaque and...
With help from members of the congregation, she demonstrated the calling of a visiting teacher. She spent a very short time explaining the calling, but the understanding and love that were transferred was apparent.
Sister Beck specifically encouraged each of the sisters in attendance to "be a lioness" in her home.
Every prophet since the time of Joseph F. Smith has been a full supporter of the program, and some of them have been quite involved as Scouts themselves.
"Joseph F. Smith became an ardent supporter of the program throughout his life," Kevin Hunt, author of the book "Scouting in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints," said in an interview. "In 1913 the church officially adopted Scouting and became a full partner. They were the first organization in the country to establish this chartered organization partnership with the Boy Scouts."
@omiolo Joseph F Smith would be excommunicated today. Smith F had 1/2 dozen wives and fathering 43 children. This same person was in the mormon militia he served as chaplain of Colonel Heber C. Kimball's regiment, with the rank of Captain.
@kramd1 sounds like you are randomly hoping you can somehow get something to stick.
Rudy Giuliani married his first cousin as have a few presidents of the united states. I think in order to be an ANTImormon, you have to IGNORE the facts....
"The language of the restoration is English," Elder González said. "There are more Spanish-speaking converts joining the church each month. To keep up with the growth of the church, and we need more leaders and families that are bilingual. The Lord will open doors of opportunity."
Elder González, currently a member of the Presidency of the Seventy, also encouraged the youth to follow the prophet, marry in the temple and get a good education. He specifically told them to learn how to speak English elegantly.
The original Mormon emigrants faced death on the trail. When the Martin company arrived in Salt Lake City in November 1856, about 145 had died.
The teenagers felt that sadness when, on the final morning, they learned a 15-pound-doll that they had named Emma and carried for two days had "died." A shallow grave was dug and a mock funeral held.
The 1,300-mile journey began in Iowa City, Iowa, in late July. The emigrants, anxious to reach Salt Lake City, were too impatient to wait until spring.
LDS officials in Salt Lake City, hearing of the trip from travelers to passed the handcart company, sent a rescue party. Both rescuers and handcart company became stranded in a November blizzard.
In 1856, two handcart companies, Martin and Willie, left dangerously late in the season for the journey to Salt Lake City. Most of the travelers had emigrated from England, Scotland, Wales and Scandinavia.
@MrxChow actually it is societies where religion is forbidden that has a history of killing millions and millions of their own people. But hey, who cares about history when you are trying to tear down religion.
Class: Mormons 101: Fact Joseph Smith was a 33rd degree Freemason. Fact Freemasons are Kabbalistic and Luciferian orgainization. I guess that means Mormons are blindly worshiping satan.
by searching the Scriptures I found that mankind did not come unto the Lord but that they had apostatized from the true and living faith and there was no society or denomination that built upon the Gospel of Jesus Christ as recorded in the New Testament (Joseph Smith ,Personal Writings, p. 5).

I find it interesting that Joseph Smith was told to join "none of the sects" yet he creates his own, including doctrine outside that which is self-contained in the Bible itself.
@omiolo The Bible I read is a New King James version that begins with the beginning - before Creation in the Book of Genesis - and ends with the return of Jesus Christ in the Book of Revelation. That self-contained Bible. The same one that doesn't need anything added to it or taken away from it.
@omiolo Maybe there shouldn't have been any changes from the King James Bible - maybe it should be the standard by which to go by. With that said, why did Mr. Smith feel the need to create another "New" testament? The one in the King James should have been completely sufficient.
As far as those "other sheep" why is that biblical proof that Jesus Christ visited the Americas? Maybe the other sheep are those who are not Messianic Jews.
Now we know why he received that feeling. We are going to prepare to bring many souls to the waters of baptism in March. Please continue to pray for us and for the people of Chile. Please pray for the missionaries to have strength and courage to do all that is being required of them, even in difficult times.
Early in his marriage and after starting a new job, he was called to teach early morning seminary. In the midst of those demands, he said, he prayed, asking the Spirit to show him how to teach the class.
"I recognize now that the only individual I prayed for at first was myself," he said.
The result was a feeling of failure as the Spirit seemed not to come into the class, he added.
We are having a devotional tomorrow for all of our missionaries to talk about the last week of Christ's life in preparation for Easter. We want to remind our missionaries to teach and preach with increased vigor of Christ. Last Monday in our office meeting, Larry suddenly stopped in the middle, and said, "During the prayer, I had a very strong impression that March 2010 is going to be our best baptizing month we have ever had in this mission."
During "An Evening With a General Authority," President Henry B. Eyring speaks to Church Educational System workers and their guests in the Tabernacle on Temple Square.
A happier time....a time before Divorce began being promoted by the Mormon Church....a time before the Mormon Church began promoting and preaching Divorce throughout the world.....a time before Temple Recommend holders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday saints broke apart my marriage....a time before the Mormon Church declared war against all Marriage.....it is so sad to see what the Mormon Church is doing now...I pray for God to protect...all marriages...everwhere!....Marriage is Love
Monday's missing supplies included a lack of water and snacks -- not so much for the American doctors and nurses, but rather for them to provide to the Haitians who help at the clinics. Medical students help give basic medical care, English-speaking church members help translate communication between U.S. staff and local patients
The team set up Monday's clinic in the back of the Croix des Missions chapel, in a tiled overflow and stage area beyond the last row of wooden pews. A clinic-on-the-move means certain items may be in short supply.
I am so grateful that we do have a Prophet today! our world is full of craziness, wouldn't we want someone to guide us? and if God is the same yesterday, today and forever, why would he stop calling prophets if he did before? His gospel is simple, not hard to understand. Full of love and goodness. I know it!
it's both hilarious and sad that people still clutch to this nonsense. i'd say something about the ridiculous issues and contradictions of this particular brand of self delusion but they are no more ridiculous than all religion. we've been here long enough to ditch superstitions and long enough to evolve but some people still chose to turn to this tripe. i believe in a flying spaghetti monster. its just as believable as this dirge.
God Himself called Joseph Smith as the prophet of the latter days to restore His true gospel to the earth. "I the Lord, knowing the calamity which should come upon the inhabitants of the earth, called upon my servant Joseph Smith, Jun., and spake unto him from heaven, and gave him commandments."
8. Diligence. Defined in the missionary guide as "steady, consistent, earnest, and energetic effort in doing the Lord's work" (page 121), diligence characterized Joshua, the valiant and unflagging minister of Moses, he who waited while the stone tables were delivered to Moses and, as his successor, led the children of Israel as they crossed over Jordan into Canaan.
To his astonishment, however, when he did preach to them, they "believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them" (Jonah 3:5). As a result, the prophesied destruction of the city was averted.
If Joe Smith was alive today, he would be put in prison for his crimes. Fraud and being a pedophile are just a few of his crimes. Guy was a charlatan and a liar. How many parent's of young women did he promise eternal exaltation to if they let him marry their underage daughter? Pure sex freak and pedophile. There should be a photo of him in the dictionary next to child molester.
We continue to build temples. We desire that as many members as possible have an opportunity to attend the temple without having to travel inordinate distances. Worldwide, 83 percent of our members live within 200 miles (320 km) of a temple. That percentage will continue to increase as we construct new temples around the world.
The Cebu City Philippines Temple was first announced on 18 April 2006. It will be the 133rd operating temple in the world, and the second in the Philippines.
Speaking to the entire Church in October, President Thomas S. Monson said:
Temples are considered houses of the Lord where Christs teachings are reaffirmed through marriage, baptism and other ordinances that unite families for eternity. In the temple, Church members learn more about the purpose of life and strengthen their commitment to follow and serve Jesus Christ and their fellow man.
"We were informed that our building was the closest to where they would be staying," said Bishop David Dye. "They asked if they could come. We were told there would be about 100 people. It turns out there were about 175, so we were scrambling at the last minute. We have an older ward, so usually it's quite quiet and reverent. There was a little commotion, but it was fun, realizing the special occasion."
LAS VEGAS -- BYU has made five consecutive trips to the Las Vegas Bowl, but this experience was a first.
With the game being played on Tuesday, that meant the Cougars were here on Sunday. For that reason, arrangements were made for players, coaches, administrators, and others connected to the program, to attend sacrament meeting. Sunday morning, they boarded buses at the team hotel, Planet Hollywood, and descended upon the Las Vegas 8th Ward.
To advance further in her sport, she moved to Houston, Texas, at age 20. A big part of surviving the move and leaving her family was finding the Church there through the Church's Web site. Later, she felt she could do better at a gym in Dallas where she again quickly located the Church.
Of the members, she said, "They are amazing out here and strong in the gospel."
Asked about that in a telephone interview with the Church News, Amy said, "If you do the Lord's work first, everything else falls into place."
That devotion was instilled in her as she grew up a member of the Church in Brigham City, Utah. The daughter of William and Pamela McDonald, she started tumbling at age 3 as an outlet for "a rambunctious child," she said.
We had branch temple night in the middle of championship week, and I did not expect to see Amy at the temple that night since she was at the competition venue each day supporting, training, coaching and encouraging other athletes as well as preparing for her own competition. (She finished third.) But when temple night came, there she was with the rest of the branch putting the Lord's business first. And she was as cheerful as ever.
"It so happens that the National Tumbling & Trampoline Gymnastic Championships were in Dallas this year, and Amy was competing there and attempting to requalify for the national team that would go to Russia for the World Championships. Her family from Utah was in town to support her and be with her at this important time.
"We solemnly affirm that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is in fact a restoration of the Church established by the Son of God...; that it carries His sacred name, even the name of Jesus Christ; that it is built upon a foundation of apostles and prophets, He being the chief cornerstone; that its priesthood ... was restored under the hands of those who held it anciently...."
I guess if you don't say what was left out you don't know.
Joseph Smith built a bar in his mansion house, Emma moved out she was so upset that he wanted to run a bar in their home. Joseph Smith drank Alcohol and Smoked.
BTW, look up the ORIGINAL HOTC books, not the ones that the church later edited to take out all the mentions of JS's drinking.
Trying to re-write your history and omit these facts is typical of people with things to hide.
Very intelligent reply. You fail to mention what you suggested I left out. I guess if you don't know your own church's history, you should shut up.
BTW, any religionstudent at BYU knows these facts. I don't expect you to find out the truth you are too happy in your disillusioned state of ignorance.
In our learning, let us not neglect the fountain of revelation. The scriptures and the words of modern-day apostles and prophets are the sources of wisdom, divine knowledge, and personal revelation to help us find answers to all the challenges in life. Let us learn of Christ; let us seek out that knowledge which leads to peace, truth, and the sublime mysteries of eternity
As you apply the spiritual dimension of faith to your study—even of temporal things—you can amplify your intellectual capacity, for if your eye be single to [Gods] glory, your whole [body] shall be filled with light, . . . and [comprehend] all things
God showed His power through the plates by fulfilling one purpose, even . . . the restoration of many thousands . . . to the knowledge of the truth. Alma then prophesied that God would still show forth his power in them unto future generations.4 Thus, the records were preserved, and you and I are part of those future generations. Just as in the days of old, we can be more powerful priesthood holders by using the Book of Mormon.
Alma the Younger teaches us one of the things they did to become so successful: they used the records from which the Book of Mormon was taken. When he gave the record that would eventually become the Book of Mormon to his son Helaman, he taught that without these plates, Ammon and his brethren could not have convinced so many thousands . . . ; yea, these records and their words brought them unto repentance
We can learn a great deal from these children of Lehi. By doing what they did, we can become more powerful in blessing the lives of our Heavenly Fathers sons and daughters, more powerful in serving others, more powerful in rescuing others, and more powerful in becoming more Christlike men.
At what age did Joseph start money digging? What prompted him to become a gold digger and why did he think the hills near his home had hidden gold protected by spirits?
I would like to add my humble testimony to this comment section. I cant tell you what to believe I can only tell you what I believe that is I know and how I come to know it. I know that Joseph had the First Vision. Buy I received my testimony of First Vision from the holy spirit. If you pray with Faith and real sincere intent willing to act on what you learn. You will receive a testimony too.
And he gave some apostles and some, prophets...for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry...Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God...
So thankful for the sacrifice of the savior Jesus Christ, and his servants that Christ calls to teach us the truths about HIM.
And that we might build our foundations on The ROCK, which is christ, that when the winds and tempests blow the foundation won't be ruined, because of the firm foundation even Christ forever and ever, amen!
The couple was sealed in the Los Angeles Temple and shortly thereafter settled permanently in Coffs Harbour, New South Wales, Australia, where Cooper ran a successful surf shop.
Cooper acknowledges having a "period of inactivity" where he focused on surfing full-time. But after his future wife, Wils, initially refused to marry him, Cooper re-evaluated himself and decided to "be true to the faith that I always knew was true."
Wils, a native of the Netherlands, eventually married Bob and was baptized into the LDS Church.
"I came to mature when the whole surfing thing seemed to mature," he said. "As it became pop culture, I kind of came along with it. I'm famous for being famous."
In the "Encyclopedia of Surfing," writer Matt Warshaw described Cooper as a cheerful, articulate, free-thinking character. He dressed colorfully -- winning "best-dressed man" recognition at a surfing competition, according to Mackie -- and wore a beard that became a defining characteristic.
"He came to Australia instead to be a pioneer, and it happens to be that he's also an eccentric surfer," Mackie said.
Cooper grew up in a strong LDS community in California. When he took up surfing, it was still a relatively obscure sport -- what Cooper calls a "secondary thought." But as surfing grew in popularity in the 1960s, Cooper carved a career out of his interest that including competing, starring in surf films and designing surfboards.
Cooper is considered a surfing pioneer who rode into prominence when the sport reached mainstream culture. But to his family, this descendant of the Martin and Willie handcart companies is a pioneer for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Australia.
Cooper also wasn't shy about being a Mormon in the Australian surf scene.
"He's never been afraid to be different," said Caitlin Mackie, one of Cooper's five children. "He also instilled in us that it was a good thing -- so you may as well run with it."
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahhahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahah you mormans are crazy fucks, have you ever researched your own religin,it is false, hahahhahahahah go out and get a life watch bill mayer,,,ohan what makes you think your religion is the right one anyway bescause joseph smit told you.........hahahah you are sick
President Eyring offered closing remarks at the LDS Church's General Relief Society Meeting, held in the Conference Center in downtown Salt Lake City and broadcast to LDS meetinghouses across the globe.
Also addressing the worldwide congregation of women were Sister Julie B. Beck, Relief Society general president, and her counselors, Sister Silvia H. Allred and Sister Barbara Thompson.
One man asked his children to think of ways to serve their neighbors for President Monson's birthday. After some consideration, one of his daughters thought it would be fun to bake cookies for some families in the neighborhood. "The week leading to the day we were planning on making the delivery of the cookies had been particularly busy at my work," he wrote.
In response to that request, the Church News asked readers to give President Monson the gift of service to another and then report it to us. In the issue of Aug. 15, we published some of the service Church members have given during the past year. Following are highlights of more service members have performed, many on President Monson's birthday.
He said they do not only engage in clean up exercise, but other activities, depending on the assignments the head organization would decide on.
The only challenge they have is getting other organisations to provide working materials, and urged all organisations, groups, and assemblies to support such acts.
He said the Assembly was supposed to provide them with implements for the exercise, while Zoomlion also brings in big trucks to collect the rubbish.
The church has seven Stake Churches, and four districts in Ghana, and while one stake would be described as a parish in the Catholic Church and has 240 branches.
In a conversation with a Philip Kwame Weah Xaxagbe, Stake President of the Accra Ghana Macarthy Hill Stake, said it was an all-Africa service project, done every year by their churches.
He said the practice also takes place in Nigeria, South Africa, Keya, Togo, and wherever they have their churches.
He noted that this year they were working together with the Ga South Assembly and the Zoomlion Company.
In 1608 the archbishop of Sweden asked the clergy to begin making records of births, christenings, marriages and burials of all the residents of Sweden. By 1686, the clergy were conducting regular examinations of the population of each parish. The church records (often called parish registers or church books) span over two centuries and chronicle the vital life events of an estimated 418 million people who moved in and out of parishes in Sweden.
probably sense, Joseph Smith III had to routinely ask his Mother if his father taught something and many many times his mother Emma said that she did NOT know.
That was an easy one. I am sorry you are NOT informed. But do NOT let that stop you from pretending.
FamilySearch and Svensk Arkivinformation (SVAR), a division of the National Archives of Sweden, announced today the launch of the largest online indexing initiative ever undertaken. The two groups unveiled plans to engage Swedish-speaking volunteers throughout the world to help create a highly searchable, free online index to the parish registers of Sweden—200 years of recorded Swedish history—comprising over 400 million names
Meanwhile, truckloads of donated relief supplies have been shipped out of the Church's Taiwan headquarters in Taipei where effects of the storm were minimal. Local chapels are being used as staging areas for supplies and Mormon Helping Hands recovery efforts.
Elder Stanley Wan, Area Seventy and Church welfare services manager for all of Asia, flew to Taiwan from his Hong Kong base to help develop a strategic recovery plan.
"I was spat upon and punched in the head, just for being an American," Peterson said. "Nine days before I was to come home, I was robbed at gunpoint - on a Sunday."
Despite being 5,000 miles from home, Peterson said, football never left his thoughts.
I'd wake up at 5 a.m. and run in the streets, which was the safest time," he said. "I welded together a bench press and lifted weights. And, at lunch, I would practice throwing footballs into some nets I made.
There, in the ghettos outside Buenos Aires, Peterson worked among the poor and the elderly. He and other Mormon missionaries fed the hungry, cleaned streets and rebuilt houses that were little more than cardboard lean-tos.
"We helped one family with 11 kids that was using bedsheets for walls," he said. "It was humbling to hear their prayers for food, yet at the same time they offered us all that they had - one loaf of stale bread that they'd been rationing all week."
"Just like Enoch, modern commentators have been virtually unanimous in being astonished at the sheer notion that God might weep," Peterson said. "So they simply reject it."
Mainstream theology depicts God as "absolutely simple" -- a distant, dispassionate and apathetic being unmoved by emotion, Peterson said.
God's emotions are well-established in the Bible, Peterson argued during a recent Campus Education Week session. And while theologians have now "belatedly recognized" the agonizing God as "genuinely biblical," acknowledging emotions in deity is problematic for anyone who doesn't accept what Mormons believe -- that God has a body.
PROVO, Utah -- How is it possible for God to weep?
Enoch asks this very question in the Book of Moses, while philosophers and theologians have long rejected the notion of a supreme being that feels anything, according to Daniel C. Peterson, a professor of Islamic studies and Arabic at BYU.
You have nothing to offer but silly little one liners.
You're just a LDS Church member, and only believes what has been feed to you, and until you start looking for Gods truth with a open heart in the New Testament, you will stay lost in LDS faith
White, black, Asian and Hispanic Mormons mingle before the service begins. As it gets under way, an African-American tween plays a video game on his smartphone in one pew as a 30-something white woman across the aisle taps away on her iPad.

Not long after His mortal ministry, Christ said to the Apostle John, “Surely I come quickly.” And John answered, “Even so, come, Lord Jesus

Brothers and sisters, 2,000 years later we also stand as His disciples. We are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The term latter-day is significant. We live and serve in a time prior to the Lord’s triumphant return. Our work is to prepare ourselves and the world for the coming of the Messiah in glory!
omiolo 1 year ago

Who among us has not felt concern over the commercialization and even greed of the Christmas season?
omiolo 1 year ago
The Grinch, that memorable character from a classic children’s story by Dr. Seuss, had a heart that “was two sizes too small,” and he hated everything about Christmas. Through the course of the story, however, he undergoes a dramatic transformation when he learns that there is more to Christmas than decorations and gifts.

JS was a glass looker ( proven)
Even as a prophet he sent out men to look for buried gold in the mountains. ( Historical Fact)
Any serious religion student at BYU discovers this in his first year.
Get your facts straight, you look like a liar when you just deny what has been proven. You don't even know your own Church's history.

I know that Joseph had the First Vision. Buy I received my testimony of First Vision from the holy spirit. If you pray with Faith and real sincere intent willing to act on what you learn. You will receive a testimony too.

The couple was sealed in the Los Angeles Temple and shortly thereafter settled permanently in Coffs Harbour, New South Wales, Australia, where Cooper ran a successful surf shop.
omiolo 2 years ago

He dressed colorfully -- winning "best-dressed man" recognition at a surfing competition, according to Mackie -- and wore a beard that became a defining characteristic.
omiolo 2 years ago
"He came to Australia instead to be a pioneer, and it happens to be that he's also an eccentric surfer," Mackie said.
Cooper grew up in a strong LDS community in California. When he took up surfing, it was still a relatively obscure sport -- what Cooper calls a "secondary thought." But as surfing grew in popularity in the 1960s, Cooper carved a career out of his interest that including competing, starring in surf films and designing surfboards.
omiolo 2 years ago
Cooper is considered a surfing pioneer who rode into prominence when the sport reached mainstream culture. But to his family, this descendant of the Martin and Willie handcart companies is a pioneer for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Australia.
omiolo 2 years ago
Cooper also wasn't shy about being a Mormon in the Australian surf scene.
"He's never been afraid to be different," said Caitlin Mackie, one of Cooper's five children. "He also instilled in us that it was a good thing -- so you may as well run with it."

The church records (often called parish registers or church books) span over two centuries and chronicle the vital life events of an estimated 418 million people who moved in and out of parishes in Sweden.

omiolo ,
Let me get this straight,
So "YOU" know much more about the Prophet Joesph Smith Jr. & his teachings, better then his whole entire Family ?
More then Emma ( who help Joesph translate the Plates) More then His own son?
Grand Sons? Great Grand sons?
YOU know more about him then all of his own Family?
Really?
godstruthislove 2 years ago
probably sense, Joseph Smith III had to routinely ask his Mother if his father taught something and many many times his mother Emma said that she did NOT know.
That was an easy one. I am sorry you are NOT informed. But do NOT let that stop you from pretending.

Some treated the missionaries badly.

"It was humbling to hear their prayers for food, yet at the same time they offered us all that they had - one loaf of stale bread that they'd been rationing all week."
omiolo 2 years ago
"Just like Enoch, modern commentators have been virtually unanimous in being astonished at the sheer notion that God might weep," Peterson said. "So they simply reject it."
Mainstream theology depicts God as "absolutely simple" -- a distant, dispassionate and apathetic being unmoved by emotion, Peterson said.
omiolo 2 years ago
