@Fips1928 yep certainly sounds like an octaver was used here. The actual notes he was singing in his solo weren't all that low, but he's just got such a great natural warmth and edge, and his helped out in a pretty big way by the desk ;)

Hop uses nothing but a compressor to lift the lower frequences. He produces the sounds himself, there is no "sound engineering" no vocoders no synths. I did a workshop with N7 in Cologne/Germany. They showed us their "tricks". 7 excellent voices, 7 mics, seven tube-pre-amps, 7 compressors and a little bit of reverb, that's all...
Nope, no octavizer..his voice is really that low..I was at N7's vocal workshop and Hops verified that his lowest was a low G..according to my friend, it's a G1 so no octavizer =)

well i listened to it and being a bass myself (i cant go that low) but i knew it was lower than i G. I listened to the part and played a low F tone and they matched. the best video you can hear it on is them perfoming on the travis smiley show. I could be wrong but it sounded like an F to me.

@iqgutten I'm not sure who you are talking to, but it seems they aren't aware of normal sound reinforcement techniques. Yes there are instances of delay, EQ, compression, and reverb here. These are things used in any live show anyone has been to that has a halfway decent sound system, and on every instrument. What Hops is really making use of is proximity effect on the microphone, which is still a technique that needs to be practiced to perform like this. I'm a bassist and this shit rocks

Of course they use effects but thats because they aren't an a cappella group; they are a vocal play group. It doesn't matter if they use effects or not because they're there to entertain and they do their job fantastically

It's B1. as people have said, it's not the deepest notes ever, plus you get lower by using first of all a mic, and then using your lips. he's really good, but it's not insanely low. :) about the mic effects, this doesn't need to be pitched down

sorry guys to disapoint you but it's not that deep. his voice is very deep but there is an effect. some vocal groups use it. if you sing a note you hear the note just an octave lower. i am doing a cappella on my own and i know what i am talking about
Sorry to disapoint YOU but I am a qualified music thech, singer and I also met the guy in Nottingham before a gig. His voice is masively deep. There is no pitch effect here. alexmatchim is right though. In this instance he is using his lips to generate his deep sound.

i've been to some of their concerts. i am doing a cappella too so i could talk with them about a cappella. they admitted that they are using effects. they have an 8th man in their group who is in control of their microphones. i know hops voice is very deep and my comment shouldn't lower their incredible talent. i love them and they sound amazing even when they are not singing on microphones though there is an effect which generates an octave lower sound
Yes I fully appreciate that these guys use effects and if you wanted I could probably reel most of them off for you. As I said I am a music technitcian. Like I said, yes they use effects, no the vox octave effect isn't one of them.

(sometimes you can here, he is singing in octaves.. and thats impossible:) Many acapella groups do that (I do also sometimes use an octaver ^^)
But Naturally 7 definitely is a great acapella group ;)
