because i like the beatles song and i wanted to hear how they covered it. Theres been a buncha hype surrounding the black keys and i dont get it...I guess i wanted to check em out and see what all the fuss is---as usual, im not missing anything here.
They are wayyy overrated!! I think this white boy is shameless in his karaoke rendition of Jimi Hendrix covering The Beatles. He has that generic, freeze-dried, "black soul" voice. I saw these blokes open up for Beck in the 2004 or so and I thought they were mediocre and really just copying The White Stripes gimmick; even their name was too similar for my comfort! Yawn!!!!!!!!
@flowerdoodle man, i am with you these guys dont have "it " . I hate the voice, and the playing is amateurish compare to the classic rock great and even obscure classic rock bands. Kids are causal listeners and no shit
@flowerdoodle Overrated? Hmmm...I don't recall ever hearing The Black Keys on the radio everyday, hell I only know a small handful of people who have only "just heard" of The Black Keys! Or were you referring to their 3 grammys they won as being overrated? Trust me, there's a reason The Black Keys are still around and the White Stripes aren't...
@Cshizzle94 hey now. personally i love the whites stripes just a little more than the black keys. the "reason" they split was because of Meg's severe anxiety issues. it was not from a lacking fan base or bad music i assure you.
@SeanTMonty sure it does....but its not this its govt mules version of it. and before you say nothing is better than the original....diet dr pepper is, well at least thats what they tell me ;)
This is an awesome cover. I love how they put a different spin on the song, that's what covers are all about anyway. They did a really cool job on this.
This is alright. Not great by any stretch of the imagination, but it's Black Keys-ish. And there giving it their own style which I'll take over some "American Idol" contestant trying to sing this!
Beatles came straight out of blues and old rock and roll, it's rather appropriate that this band is covering them, only the bluesiest and rockiest can cover such greats!
@superfudge73 They are wayyy overrated!! I think this white boy is shameless in his karaoke rendition of "Jimi Hendrix" covering The Beatles. He has that generic, freeze-dried, "black soul" voice. @americasasylol tell me how "unknown brother", "you're the one" and "the lengths" are not played from the heart?! you sir are a hater, and haters gonna hate.
@americasayslol your comments crack me up. hipster isnt a genre of music, its a culture. many hipsters are in bands and play music, but that doesnt mean that its all the same. you make me wonder how much youve actually listened to the black keys. if youre going to call them posers, at least have a reason. check out "the lengths" and if you really still feel that way, just say you dont like it, cause they definitely arent posers. lastly, stop calling people "noobs" youre embarrassing your self.
@mclethin im fully aware that "hipster" is not a genre of music. these guys are cute little indie rockers who walk around sportin ray bans. well im here to say fuck that. lets forget the ego behind rock music and start playing from the heart. Fuck your stupid hipster culture. Fuck all these assholes who want to play the BLUES. you goddamn NOOB.
@americasayslol possibly the two worst bands i have ever heard of in my life, im a HUGE rock/blues fan and i'll tell ya that type of music, whatever you want to call it, "hipster" so have you, is destroying rock n' roll. I would rather listen to Nickelback, now give me back the 10 mins of my fucking life that you had me waste on listening to liberal art queers prancing around drinking starbucks and beating on bongo drums... and please for the love of god DONT call that rock n' roll.
As for the Hendrix influence that some people criticize, I hear a lot of it in this particular song. Especially with the vocals. It's really hard to pin down covers of The Beatles. Some people stray way too far away from the essence and sound, while some like to deviate only slightly while still keeping the structure in tact. The latter is how it's done and this bluesy twist is very enjoyable. The Black Keys truly are a musical rarity in this generation of rap, noise and talentless kids.
@shannonjl i hear the beatles....it seems like when some people hear electric blues music, its automatically....."sounds like Hendrix". Honestly, I like the Black Keys and I hear very little Hendrix influence on any of their albums...just a few riffs here and there, but not much at all..he doesnt use a wah pedal, or the riffs just arent hendrix . I guess I don;t fault you because not everyone can know better, and most people havent been exposed to alot outside the "classic rock cannon"
Guy I used to work with turned me on to these guys! Love the groove theyre putting out! 60s Garage band soul flavor with the blues! Hey Chris thanks man!
my uncle turned me on to the black keys, first time i heard them i loved the, went and bought this album and theres only one word to describe them.....beautiful.
didn't much get into my generations music some stuff grunge, i always dug my moms generation. I really love the black keys, throwback to that time, im from the south but now reside in the north so the blues are home for me. thanks black keys for putting out something significant in our generation. rock on!
Yes I agree thothbaboon...black keys have that vintage vibe to them....they got some good blues going on...and I just can not get over the fact how true their lyrics are. :)
@chetporterhouse Check out the Jim Jones Revue...Rock and Roll Psychosis and the Princess and the Frog...London band...record live on 4 track...See 'em live and your jaw will hit the deck
@chetporterhouse Hahaha...what a dumb statement. While there are worse acts out there, I dont understand the hype behind these guys. I hate it when white singers try so hard to affect their voice to emulate black singers to give it a soulful edge. Its embarrassing. He's lying and acting the part of something thats real and natural to the black singers. I dont like black artists tryin to sound white and I dont like when whitey tries to sound black.
@flowerdoodle So only black people are allowed to sing the blues? He sings how he wants to sing, not because he is trying to emulate black singers. His voice has soul because HE has soul, not because he is pretending.
I discovered them a year ago, and like them getting their name origin, I'm supposed to be schizophrenic. I doubt that, but at 55 never mellowed with rock. I love these guys! the beatles wrote about 30 epic songs, thats kinda shite considerin how many they recorded... some killer, a lot of filler. this version is much better then the beatles dull version

best band around right now. Soon people will realize what REAL music is

Real music is The Beatles, not The Black Keys...

I agree The Beatles are great, but hmm.. are the Beatles still around? nope. so your reply is jibberish
Kmartian211 4 years ago
Yes, the Beatles are technically still around. Music doesn't die, the players do.
lazrpo1nt3r 4 years ago
Beatles have nothing to do with this.... These guys are awesome regardless

I'm pretty sure they are both real

To set the record straight, The Black Keys make great music! If you like the Beatkles, you can easily like the Black Keys. If you don't fine, but the "non-music" comment is just so much nonsense.

The Black Keys are the best blues/rock duo out today...bottom line, end of story...no comments please.

the beatles wrote about 30 epic songs, thats kinda shite considerin how many they recorded... some killer, a lot of filler. this version is much better then the beatles dull version
