I purchased a RF1000 from Cyclegear and they were great about letting me try out a helmet before buying but i did not try out the helmet at high speed. At speeds over 100 mph the helmet tries to lift to the point of choking me. I talked with Cyclegear but they said Shoei quit making the RF1000 helmet and did not have a answer for me. I love the helmet but i like to run back roads and high speed and I can't with this helmet. Anyone have a solution for my problem????
Great review! Love your other reviews on apparel, really helps out for new riders on what to purchase.
Question: I purchased the RF1000 but find it very noisy on the highway or a faster speeds. Is this a common problem with them? Other then that love the fit, feel and venting of this helmet, recommend it to anyone.
Helmet has got a big ass air foil in the back, can you elaborate on this or just tell me how wonderful the graphics are? Does the spoiler do anything, does it reduce noise level, reduce buffeting or just for looks like the graphics...? For over a hundred more dollars than the tz-r i get a cardboard molded breath deflecter? BTW, the breath deflector redirects your breath closer to eye level rather than downwards...
@superfly638 Actually the breath deflector does direct your breath down, I have this helmet, and it does work very well. The spoiler helps with hight speed stabilization, and eleminates lift on the back of the helmet. This helmet also flows much more air than the TZ-R, which makes the extra money worth it on hot days. BTW if your not crazy about graphics, they do offer it in solids as well.
BTW, one thing to add, the graphic design and quality is AMAZING! I got the Crest design featured in the review, and the video does it no justice at all. It simply must be seen in direct sunlight to truly appreciate the subtleties of the detail work. There are numerous swirls under the main image that only show up in sunlight. Really nice...
I just picked up one of these on a year end blowout because the price was irresistible and I felt it was time to buy a high end lid to replace my crappy Icon. I have to say, of all the helmets I have worn over the last 15 years of riding, in terms of fit, finish, quality, and really overallt ,his is be far the best helmet I have owned. Have had Arais, Scorpions, AGVs, Icons, but never a Shoei. At this point, I think I am going to stick to the RF line for life!!
I had a icon decay helmet the 2009 model, bought a shoei caster rf1000.. and omfg shoei is 100% quality product.. i will never go to another helmet unless its a arai... and this video helped me with the basics. Great vid and amazing shoei product.
no x11 is the top model of shoei. This model is ok, but unlike the arai helmets, you cannot remove all the interior parts to wash them except the cheek pads other wise i will get it
You do not have to remove the chin curtain to put the helmet on or take it off. I prefer the X-11, there is a big price difference making it hard to fairly compare them IMO
Hey Jack ass, why did you not try the helmet on ??? That would have spoken lots about the helmet.

I want to get the Shoei rf1100 Merciless tc-5 helmet. Does anybody know what the "tc-5" means?
2downers1upper 2 months ago
@2downers1upper The TC-5 simply stands for the color of the helmet. That is the system Shoei uses to identify their colors

@busaofsc Sounds like the helmet might be too big for you. The RF-1000 helmet is one of the best helmets to ever hit the market.

... even the entry scorpion exo 400 has fully removable side and top liners.

What size hats do you wear? I'm usually a medium too, how does your head measure? I really want one but I just want to be sure of size.
ErGalamay 2 years ago
I am a medium almost across the board. I measure dead on 58cm

I just got one because of your review and I am no where near disappointed. Keep up the good work man.

Is this newer than the shoei x11?

The RF-1000 and the X-11 are both being replaced in the late fall of 2009

So they don't use Pinlock on this helmet then, do they?
TheReapersSon 2 years ago
The Pinlock is an option that must be purchased separately

Thanks for the info!
Still considering getting this helmet. I love the design.

so what would you prefer rf 1000 or the x-11? and the chin curtin do u always have to remove it to put on the helmet or u can keep in it on?

Great helmet. I love my rf-1000. Its very comfortable. I bought a pin shield with the fog insert. NO Fog not matter how hard i breathe.
I do not regret my purchase. However i still want a x-11
