This is not how I know the ZAR. I was invited to a zar in Misr. The stage is not really for this dance. It is a CULTural religious practice; part of Misr's history.
I've only seen it *show* in the states but I'd really love to see it in the middle east done publicly.. Zar is sooo awesome, Would love to be trained to do it, correctly the head spins lol
continued 2. my g.mother drank perfume and consumed fire when she was possesed by.....this is a sick and horrible spirit that appeals to westerners as exotic, just like the snake charmer and our arabic tunes
haha for people that think this is ''cool'' or ''fascinating'', you're idiots seriously....i know many people that go through zaar it was introduced to us by southern ethiopians we brought as slaves to the north before intermingling with the dark africans...the zaar(original) is a ''sickeness'' that posseses a women every month or year or w/e, the priest himself obeys the spirit when it chooses one of his female members of the church,
You ignorant... This is a pagan religious custom, originated in Ethiopia during the eighteenth century. Zār involves the possession of an individual (usually female) by a spirit.
The Zaar cult served as a refuge for women and effeminate men in conservative, Muslim-dominated Sudan...

@70steps your beliefs are your beliefs, if that`s a phenomenon in your culture
-other people obviously have never heard of it - that`s what it is.
But please don`t offend others who are commenting on the dance video.
