I just took a cold shower this morning. I wasn't able to get a full night's rest last night, but it woke me right up. I was just thinking about how much I enjoy cold showers and decided to search it in YouTube! Didn't know it could actually be helpful. :)
"I know you don't want to do it" LOL! Cold showers are the cure for some many ailments; it's a shame that some people resort to drugs, when really all they need is better circulation.
Well I'm sure you should be careful with sub-freezing temperatures. Of course this is only applicable if you are doing it outdoors! I've tried this in a tidal river in midcoast Maine, real polar bear club kind of stuff. It was a LOT harder than doing it in the shower, but it seemed MUCH more rewarding. And of course it woke me up better than a shot of cocaine!
Pardon my ignorance, but I'm under the impression that exposing the body to a cold medium will cause vasoconstriction of the blood vessels, not vasodilation, to conserve heat. If this is correct, how would a cold shower help to get the blood going? Thanks.
That was my thought exactly. The reason alcohol or nicotine are dangerous is they cause vasodilation in situations (cold) when vasoconstriction kicks in to distribute heat properly. You don't want to heat the water that's hitting your skin, hence vasoconstriction.
Brings blood to the capillaries, therefore increasing circulation throughout the body, Cleans the circulatory system,Reduces blood pressure on internal organs, Provides flushing for the organs and provides a new supply of blood, Strengthens the parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous systems, Contracts the muscles to eliminate toxins and poisonous wastes,Strengthens the mucous membranes, which help resist hay fever, allergies, colds, coughs.
The practice of taking cold showers in the morning is extraordinarily revitalizing and has been used therapeutically all over the world for thousands of years.
Yeah it amazes me how many people I find take cold showers. I met a real lil' old lady type the other day, 93, turns out she's been taking cold showers since she was a child!! She grew up taking cold showers, and to her, taking a war shower in the morning made her feel tired, since she was so used to taking a cold one.
I wonder what the actual temperature of the water is required to be to reach maximum benefit and for how long. I live in an area of Canada where the lows can be -22 degrees Celcius in the winter and the tap water is from the river. My difficulty is in remembering to breath I shall try chanting the Wahe Guru and see if I can 'enjoy' it for longer than 30 seconds! Thanks.

I just spent several days at the beach and went in the water daily. I think I know the "rush" of which you speak. It's a good "rush." Thanks, Carol

Did it. The Pacific ocean is a lot colder.

During the colder months of the year...you get more of a "rush". The water isn't that cold here during the summer...so doesn't have the full effect.

Okay. I will do this first thing tomorrow morning. Um, yep, first thing.
