It is approximately three years ago that I stumbled upon this and was introduced to the more harsh aspects of metal. I had been listening solely to Iron Maiden up until this point. It really is weird discovering that this video was uploaded by KSCIAA since I've been working my way through his/her(?) videos for the last month (primarily Agalloch at the moment). It feels like I've almost come full circle. Thanks KSCIAA. Don't know if that made sense.
Though I personally think the music is good, I think a lot of fans over romanticise the past and have an obsession with fantasy, which I think leads them to forget the extremely dark cultural practices that existed within pagan viking culture, sacrifice was a part of it, very gruesome sacrifice.
Right, but tell me, isn't sacrifice a common practice of this society too? Throwing a man into jail till the end of his days, isn't that a sacrifice? Waging war for oil and uranium, killing thousands just for money, isn't that sacrifice?
Mankind never changes...
What has changed is the place of men into the world. Old pagan societies always kept men at the core of everyday's life, while at the same time maintaining a close link to nature.
What do we have at the core of our society now? Money....
I know many pagans (and viking in particular) were exceedingly fond of war and bloodshed, and their lives were often short and brutal. But they never ceased to be true men, never became gears to a machine as we have become.
War is, unluckily, part of man's nature. Being slave to money, that' isn't.
We are nostalgic of our nature, not of war and killing.
@LazzaBlack im not pagan but ur music is the shit.. lol im nothing.. i beleive in god but im not a christian catholic jew or anything.. just a common beleiver

I remember when I started listening to falkenbach long time ago in the late 1990's and hardly nobody knew of them them. I am honored to have had the pleasure of listening to this band. It has certainly has changed my life for the better good.
12 years ago - Falkenbach was one of the focus of my interests. Unique -Northern. And the Greek and the Egyptians - and the Central European/Slavic Pagans- and everyone...Now.12 years later----whenever I can hear this tune, I feel that nothing has EVER changed. Nothing in History changes. Falkenbach and his music will be with us till the end. So will everything that you fettered in your heart :-) The world and the universe. I love being here and listening to this music. Thanks God/any Gods!
I like Falkenbach's music a lot. I find the anti-Christian sentiments of some nordic metal fans...distasteful. Why? Asatru is a religion of ancestor veneration. We recognize the gods as our honored kin: we venerate our shared folk heritage through the ages. I guarantee you there is no European heathen alive today whose every ancestor was a pagan. Hm? So let's reject Christianity, that's fine. But to be "anti-Christian" is to be against your ancestors. Honor them, instead.
@ChevalierdeJohnstone Why? I share no kinship with them spiritually, right enough some of my older family are practiscing Christians, I'll not remember them for the views they have or the idealology they worship, they dont put me down for my Asatruar beliefs, so I dont put them down for theirs, as disagree with them I might. But - I have chosen this path in life to venerate my ancestors who followed the ways I do now, though I do not deny... (continued in following comment)
@ChevalierdeJohnstone ...that some of my ancestor's down the line may have been men or women of the cross, as disdainful as I may find that fact, I will not deny it. But its the more literal practitioners of the Christian faith that aggrovate me - facists, the whole lot of them. No sense of pride in who they are. To Hela with them. Fuck em' all.
You really don't understand, do you? You're so wrapped up in hatred that you're incapable of properly honoring your ancestral heritage. That's really too bad.
You also appear to be confusing the Christian concept of Hell with the Asatru concept of Hel. I suggest you be a bit more attentive to your study of the sagas. A little learning about your heritage will help you a lot.
@ChevalierdeJohnstone Im not confusing it at all, Hela is given the dishonourable liars and cheats etc., thus I see no confusion. Also - what is it Im not understanding?
of course your entitled to your own opinion, but cmon just enjoy the music man! i dont know very much but im pretty sure that paganism was the number 1 religion in europe before Christianity took over. therefore they are honoring their ancestors.
@Metal4Life007 Apart from the Jews, there wasn't *any* religion in Europe before Christianity took over that wasn't *some* sort of paganism. Every nation or group of nations had its own gods.
i hear this and it makes me wish i had a wooden boat, upon which me and my fellow bretheren shall find unknown land and do battle with its indigenos people then feast and make merryment
@Heavymetalgamer28 Oh of course not! How could anyone speak ill of Bathory? No, all I was saying was that the influence is clearly very strong in Falkenbach's music.
I hadn't listened to this song in almost a year! And the funny part is, this is the only band along with Pixies which I have always had on my ipod since I bought. If I made a top5, Falkenbach would be in it; and coming from me, a person who listens to almost every genre and who's favourite band is Pixies, that means a lot.
amazing. Vratyas Vakyas has truly captured in this song something that has been lost in the hearts of man, the warrior spirit, the heart of the adventurer, the soul of those far in the past more in tune with nature and the world around them, something primeval, spanning back to the origin of man. truly inspirational.
@crapass666 lol i checked it out right AFTER i posted my comment like a complete idiot. I presumed that he was busy on other projects or something, his albums aren't coming out on assembly lines after all ;P
@cilibinarii Fate is not written in stone, the mighty children of the Gods will shatter the chains of fate and forge a new destiny for Gods and man alike.
@cilibinarii The words of men do not bind the Gods, if we act as if our lore is set in stone then we are no different than christian extremists. If Odin God of wisdom tries to prevent Ragnarok than it's safe to assume Ragnarok is not set in stone. After all fighting the inevitable is very unwise.
It's best not to assume that the writings of man are 100% correct.
@cilibinarii And in the hearts of men and woman as well. you can try to sound smart but only make your self seem stupid. Lore is meant to teach lessons and to teach the past.
If you think fate is predetermined it shows that you are weak and Heathenism is not for the weak.
@DamnHeathen1988 And all books of "lore" were written by men. Just like the Bible was, just like any other book of mythology or religion was.
Get over it. I am no Heathen, and am proud not to be one, because, frankly, it's silly. Yes, the legends and myths of the pre-Christian people are interesting and perhaps you can feel some kind of romantic nostalgia towards them, but no, it is not worth reviving, because they are just like those other bullshit religions out there.
@cilibinarii That's your opinion and you're entitled to it. I suggest to you that you do not hail my Gods in such mockery again though for it only shows how stupid and cowardly you are and shows you're no different than christian extremists who mock everyone's else's religion.
Also our lore for a very long time was carried through word of mouth passed from one generation to the next not by books.
You're pretty cocky behind a computer screen but most likely a coward in life.
@DamnHeathen1988 HAIL brother. fret not over such a lowly creature (it doesn't even deserve to be called human) it obviously knows nothing about our path. If it did it would know the major differences from other religions. It is also a huge gamer and admits on its own page it has no life, such a lowly creature has no honor and is not worth wasting breath on.
@DamnHeathen1988 Obviously you are even more sensitive than these "christian extremists" you keep on talking about. Your "lore" was not passed on from generation to generation, perhaps only since the whole revivalist thing started in the 20th century, and their "knowledge" is based on books. Your movement is nothing more than exaggerated romanticism.
Oh, and shouldn't you mighty and brave warrior Odin-worshipping "men" be out there, converting the whole "cowardly" world by fire and sword?
@cilibinarii Once again you only show how stupid you are. How do you think the lore was passed before books? You also forgot that much if this knowledge is based on artifacts found. As for the "revival" you speak of do you realize that my faith was not entirely snuffed out?
I don't worship Odin so once again you show your stupidity, and we don't go around killing those who disagree with us, where you Got that idea is beyond me. I'm guessing you just made it up.
@cilibinarii Also why do you put the words knowledge and lore in quotation marks? You have a bad habit of showing your stupidity and lack of knowledge of just about anything. if my faith is nothing more than "exaggerated romanticism." then please elaborate how. You say I'm more sensitive than christian extremists however that just shows your lack of intellectual integrity.
Man hood is earned not given and by the way you act you will never be a man.
@Metaldude1945 Heathens have the sense to know you can't force people to believe what they don't want to and that the gods wouldn't be pleased with such false worship anyhow.
@cilibinarii The religious belief in the norse god never had any books of lore. Writing books didn't exist in the north until the Christians gave us the latin alphabet. Before that only the futhark and the runes were needed, and knowledge was kept in mind. There is a difference between heathendom and christianity, so don't compare them.
Don't speak of what you don't know. Better remain silent than show your idiocy.
@DamnHeathen1988 Just wanted to point out.. that the gods fight the battle of Ragnarok, and die... all the while knowing both things will transpire. They arent fighting to avoid the apocalypse, but because it is thier fate. Ragnarok isnt a myth about the end.. its a myth about a new beginning. The circle of life, as they say. Life isnt about mulling over opinions, or crying about a sucky exsistance. Its about proving your worth by surviving the trials thrown at you until the moment you die.
@Skolgrim I'm sorry I was unaware that a mortal had the power to decide the fate of Gods. Seriously does your arrogance know no bounds? Who are you to say what the fate of Gods and men is to be? If man has the power to weave his own wyrd then one should assume that the Gods have that power and more.
@DamnHeathen1988 He's not really saying it, but the prophecy says. Odin himself says it as well. When Ragnarök comes, Odin will search for advice at the well of Mimer, but Mimer's head will remain silent for once. Meanwhile the rainbow bridge will break and the battle on Vigridsfiled will take place where everyone that has had influence over Midgard will die, but a new world will rise where some of the asir will rebirth. The asir are not immortal, just powerful.
@EyelessEntity Edda thumping isn't an admirable thing. Do you think your self all knowing? If not why to you presume to know the fate of Gods and man alike?
@DamnHeathen1988 I don't say that I know anything, nor that what I do is admirable in any way or consider myself all knowing; I'm merely referring to the book while you are putting words in my mouth. Just because I refer to them doesn't mean I agree with them. You can't say I "presume to know the fate of Gods", because I do not share your belief. If you still want to discuss, then let us do so outside this video. It's already off-topic.
@Haku92292 - The very first two paragraphs of lyrics explain the reason behind the apparent anti-Christianism of the song. Abrahamaic religions surely deserve no love from any good red-blooded European, as they basically wiped out the original European culture with their middle-Eastern mumbo jumbo.

Though I personally think the music is good, I think a lot of fans over romanticise the past and have an obsession with fantasy, which I think leads them to forget the extremely dark cultural practices that existed within pagan viking culture, sacrifice was a part of it, very gruesome sacrifice.

Vratyas Vakyas has truly captured in this song something that has been lost in the hearts of man, the warrior spirit, the heart of the adventurer, the soul of those far in the past more in tune with nature and the world around them, something primeval, spanning back to the origin of man. truly inspirational.

When Heimdall sounds the Gjallarhorn, the Doom of the Gods will come.

@cilibinarii Fate is not written in stone, the mighty children of the Gods will shatter the chains of fate and forge a new destiny for Gods and man alike.
DamnHeathen1988 1 year ago
@DamnHeathen1988 The fate of the Gods has been prophesied in the Voluspa. As you say, it will be their children that will succeed them.
cilibinarii 1 year ago
@cilibinarii The words of men do not bind the Gods, if we act as if our lore is set in stone then we are no different than christian extremists. If Odin God of wisdom tries to prevent Ragnarok than it's safe to assume Ragnarok is not set in stone. After all fighting the inevitable is very unwise.
It's best not to assume that the writings of man are 100% correct.
DamnHeathen1988 1 year ago
@DamnHeathen1988 And after all, the Gods only exist in the writings of man (:
cilibinarii 1 year ago
@cilibinarii And in the hearts of men and woman as well. you can try to sound smart but only make your self seem stupid. Lore is meant to teach lessons and to teach the past.
If you think fate is predetermined it shows that you are weak and Heathenism is not for the weak.
DamnHeathen1988 1 year ago
@DamnHeathen1988 And all books of "lore" were written by men. Just like the Bible was, just like any other book of mythology or religion was.
Get over it. I am no Heathen, and am proud not to be one, because, frankly, it's silly. Yes, the legends and myths of the pre-Christian people are interesting and perhaps you can feel some kind of romantic nostalgia towards them, but no, it is not worth reviving, because they are just like those other bullshit religions out there.
cilibinarii 1 year ago
@cilibinarii That's your opinion and you're entitled to it. I suggest to you that you do not hail my Gods in such mockery again though for it only shows how stupid and cowardly you are and shows you're no different than christian extremists who mock everyone's else's religion.
Also our lore for a very long time was carried through word of mouth passed from one generation to the next not by books.
You're pretty cocky behind a computer screen but most likely a coward in life.
DamnHeathen1988 1 year ago
@DamnHeathen1988 HAIL brother. fret not over such a lowly creature (it doesn't even deserve to be called human) it obviously knows nothing about our path. If it did it would know the major differences from other religions. It is also a huge gamer and admits on its own page it has no life, such a lowly creature has no honor and is not worth wasting breath on.
tyrspride 1 year ago
@DamnHeathen1988 Obviously you are even more sensitive than these "christian extremists" you keep on talking about. Your "lore" was not passed on from generation to generation, perhaps only since the whole revivalist thing started in the 20th century, and their "knowledge" is based on books. Your movement is nothing more than exaggerated romanticism.
Oh, and shouldn't you mighty and brave warrior Odin-worshipping "men" be out there, converting the whole "cowardly" world by fire and sword?
cilibinarii 1 year ago
@cilibinarii Once again you only show how stupid you are. How do you think the lore was passed before books? You also forgot that much if this knowledge is based on artifacts found. As for the "revival" you speak of do you realize that my faith was not entirely snuffed out?
I don't worship Odin so once again you show your stupidity, and we don't go around killing those who disagree with us, where you Got that idea is beyond me. I'm guessing you just made it up.
DamnHeathen1988 1 year ago

EyelessEntity 1 year ago
@EyelessEntity I find your last sentence ironic. Just sayin'.
cilibinarii 1 year ago
@DamnHeathen1988 Just wanted to point out.. that the gods fight the battle of Ragnarok, and die... all the while knowing both things will transpire. They arent fighting to avoid the apocalypse, but because it is thier fate. Ragnarok isnt a myth about the end.. its a myth about a new beginning. The circle of life, as they say. Life isnt about mulling over opinions, or crying about a sucky exsistance. Its about proving your worth by surviving the trials thrown at you until the moment you die.
Skolgrim 1 year ago
@Skolgrim I'm sorry I was unaware that a mortal had the power to decide the fate of Gods. Seriously does your arrogance know no bounds? Who are you to say what the fate of Gods and men is to be? If man has the power to weave his own wyrd then one should assume that the Gods have that power and more.
DamnHeathen1988 1 year ago

DamnHeathen1988 1 year ago
@DamnHeathen1988 I don't say that I know anything, nor that what I do is admirable in any way or consider myself all knowing; I'm merely referring to the book while you are putting words in my mouth. Just because I refer to them doesn't mean I agree with them. You can't say I "presume to know the fate of Gods", because I do not share your belief. If you still want to discuss, then let us do so outside this video. It's already off-topic.
EyelessEntity 1 year ago
@EyelessEntity That's a bit cowardly is it not? take a jab then want to go privet. You could have simply sent me a message as well.
You did presume to know the fate of Gods this also had nothing to do with belief, you phrased it as fact.

Haku92292 1 year ago
@Haku92292 - The very first two paragraphs of lyrics explain the reason behind the apparent anti-Christianism of the song. Abrahamaic religions surely deserve no love from any good red-blooded European, as they basically wiped out the original European culture with their middle-Eastern mumbo jumbo.
