I've loved her since I was awake! Il loved her even more when she did some video registrations in the one Themepark I love the most in the 80's: De Efteling. Check it out on youtube!
@molinocampo Sooo...yeah, its pretty clearly about incest and suicide, no one here is a pervert and there is nothing wrong with our interpretation skills, just yours.
The bobbing knee is them when they were little and innocent on their father's knees, while he told them tales of a mythology, probably a Greek one, which explains why she'll give her love to Zeus and not the Christian God.
Oh, by the time you read this, I'll be well in touch"
which pretty much undoubtedly means she'll be dead. She's killing herself.
---"This kicking here inside makes me leave you behind
No more under the quilt to keep you warm
Your sister I was born - you must lose me"
To me, "your sister I was born" means that they are brother and sister...under the quilt means sexual relations...the kick inside can very well mean a baby.
@cuttlefisch."The Kick Inside" is a masterpiece of pop music but I prefer "The Dreaming","Hounds Of Love" and "Never For Ever" by a short head because they are more eclectic.
@Katefanforever Thanks for that!! I love this album, but I would say that "Hounds of Love" is my actual favourite. There's just something about this song that just moves you in a way few other songs can do, even after so long. Stunning.
@cuttlefisch."The Dreaming" is my favourite."Hounds Of Love" comes just behind.I listened to "The Kick Inside" for the nth time a few days ago and I love it as much as I love "Never For Ever" now.
No, it's not. The song is about incest and suicide. It's based on an old folk song called "The Ballad Of Lucy Wan" about a girl who has sex with her brother and gets pregnant. When her brother finds out he kills her.
In Kate's version, the girl commits suicide to spare her brother of the shame.
@Symphonyofflowers What's amazing to me is that she wrote music and lyrics of this richness and depth at such a young age....she's really a gifted artist

Incredibly taboo subject - especially for the late seventies. An example of Kate's unique genius of being able to make an incredibly beautiful and melodic song out of such a dark and uncomfortable story.
when i was younger, my parents would play it, and then i'd ask them to play it again... soon - i was listening to it the whole day... then we gave away our LP-Player!! i was so upset... but i bought the CD! :-)
remarkable tune.

Didn't we cry at that old mythology he'd read"

Freakin' concidering the song is about incest. But I guess you wouldn't be able to understand it at that age anyway.
Nice song, thanks for the upload.
