  • M10 tank destroyer was an engineering disaster, open-top exposed crews to artillery barrage and shrapnel from exploding enemy shells, enemy machine-gun fire from MG-34 and MG-42 (buzz-saw), in the winter you would freeze your ass off because of the open top, it had very thin armour, it could be penetrated by 88mm Tiger gun and longbarrel L/70 75mm gun of the Panther and the 75mm gun of Panzer mark IV, and any anti-tank gun from Germans like PAK 75mm. You had to gun and run like hell to survive!

  • @haiherosner Thats not a disaster thats called "realizing speed is armor". Wolverine's did very well in the war and the Achilles even better. There is a reason they continued by making the M18. They are very effective. But non the less i would be scared to be in one :p

  • @StarskySTARS The m10 and m18 were so effective that by the end of WW2, all tank destroyers were discontinued from U.S. army, being considered obsolete by 1945. Tank destroyers were part of U.S. army battlefield doctrine that tanks like the M4 Sherman tank were meant as infantry support tanks, to help support an infantry breakthrough, and only then Tank Destroyers like M10 or M18, or M36 would race in to destroy enemy tanks, unfortunately this was flawed thinking and they paid high price.

  • @haiherosner A high price and then some.

  • What engine was used in this? The ford GAA? or a radial engine?

  • Was there something going on with the video or did that thing have a awfully high profile?

  • I would say deffintly the U.S. 76.2 with muzzle barke. The high velocity gun stirred up so much clutter and dust that it obscured the view and revealed the TD position.Later models had a muzzle brake.

  • @scottduncan44 The U.S. M10 "Wolverine" with the 3 inch gun was never fitted with a muzzle break... This is a British M10 "Achilles" with a 17 pounder as the uploader correctly stated. Don't you think he might know something about it since he helped restore it and did the research on it...

  • IF really an "Achilles" then it would've mounted the British 17 pounder which was pretty close in performance to the Tiger I gun. But, it may be a standard M10 with a muzzle break bolted-on. M10 and Shermans when employed with proper tactics and in the right setting could fight Panthers. Note that in the battles around Nancy (Lorraine), M10s and Shermans won against mostly Panthers with half their losses. The Germans were using green recruits: experience counts!

  • Hello

it is a 17pdr guns, I have removed the 8 layers of paint, and has written to all Divisional singn, and researched a bit, this m-10 came to England in 1944 and was modified with a 17pdr, was assigned to the11th Armored Division, 75te Anti-Tank Regiment, This achilles came to Normandy June 11, liberated Antverpen on September 4,

  • @droogie1984 your exactly rite, im tired of hearing about the german tiger, panthers. But really we had tanks to match. Most of the time the small shermans were the first to meet the germans large tanks, and thats why they would get loose. But the shermans were fast, light made for recon and light fighting. A couple of shermans, with americans and good tactics could wipe out tigers and panthers before they knew what happened. Theres a cpl storys. But ppl dont wanna hear about the m10 & other U.S.A

  • It must have been fun to try to hit those things on the run with an 88mm from Tiger tanks or high-velocity 75mm from Panther tanks! POP!

  • actualy this tank, as well as the M18 hellcat. coult kill tiger tanks.

and the old panzer I, II, II IV were just no match for the speed, manuverability of this tank

this tank fired a 3in (76mm shell just like panther tanks.

  • @4everUSNavy I understand you are probably not trying to be an ass, but you don't know shit for what you're saying. Let me help:

1.) This is NOT a tank at all. The M10 is NOT a tank.

2.) The M10 was pretty much useless against Tiger Tanks, not being able to penetrate frontal armor at any range.

3.) "Just like panther tanks"... LOL! A 76mm round from this gun is nothing compared to 75mm round of Panther. You are confusing CALIBER with POWER. Compare .45ACP with .458 Win. Mag. LOL!

  • its a tank destroyer, but remember the meaning of a tank is

armored traked vehicle that provides cover for infualtry. the M10 did that and i call it a tank.

so dont act like you know everything and leave people alone einstein wanna be

  • @4everUSNavy Im with yaa, the speed, agility reliability, and numbers of the U.S tanks are what took down the panzer divisions, also the american tactics. The germans would dirve rite out in the open feilds, feeling invisible because they knew they had bigger more armored tanks, but it screwed them because al it took was a couple shermans, or tank destroyer hid behind a ridge, woods line and we would wipe them out. Also they would get stuck,& breakdown always. Its in storys.& My granpa told me.

  • does this M10 have the twin Detroit diesel engines? It sure doesn't sound like a screaming jimmy lol
