Only in 9 ball do you have to hit the head ball on the break, in 8 ball it can be either the 1st two balls on the rack. It is a foul if you use the 3rd ball in most leagues rules.
steady, where the hell do you play? House rules at the kiddy arcade?? This is a totally legal shot(APA,BCA,TAP, and more) unless local tournament(house) rules specify using the "break box" dis-allowing side breaks. IN addition to the above suggestions, use slightly less power, almost a soft break. Too much power will kick it off its path.
Wow... The 8-ball on the break, in any REAL pool hall, tournament, etc, is a WIN - no matter if any ball pockets before the 8. The only way you lose is if you scratch AND make the 8 ball.
However, no one can pocket it everytime or there'd never be a televised pool tournament would there?
It's simply luck, I've made it go 3 rails after the break and still go in.
Check out my instructions on how to hit in in : I have details in the comments below. 2 part instruction.. It will go in more often and you will get better breaks, Simonis 860 cloth is the best for this break, the faster tables. the slower tables it is harder to get in.
thanks, I hate when I lose this way but it feels great to win this way. In LA there were many tournaments that had 8 ball break payouts. Pay 1$ each time you broke and get the pot, I made $1500 my best year on 8 ball breaks.
@Lanezeri / Hi, If you know the correct spot you should be able to get it in at least 3-5 times in a night. Here is a tip.: #1 make sure the rack is tight, and the center ball in the back of the rack is tight, that is the ball that hits the rail then knocks the 8ball into the side or corner pocket, #2, place the cue ball 2" from the rail, on the right side of the kitchen at the line( 2nd diamond), #3 Break with a draw stroke, low left english, hit the 2nd ball without touching the head ball.
3]Stroke past the cue ball when breaking about a 1.5 -2 feet.
4] Aim directly at the 2nd ball dead on, do not hit the 1st ball, the 2nd ball has to be hit clean
5] The 8 ball will go in either the left side or left corner, you will need to make sure the center ball in the back of the rack is tight, this is the ball that hits the rail then hits the 8 ball into the pocket.
why don't you put a video about you winning, but winning by your opponent by making the 8 on the break, and scratches.

@Lanezeri some people play if you sink the 8, and the cue on the break, the game continues with 8 spotted.

8 ball on the break Instructions:
1]Place the cue ball at the 2nd diamond about 2 inches from the rail( right side of the table if your left hand is your bridge)
2] Use draw left hand english on the ball( this helps the cue ball get to the rail and not scratch,

Actually, you hit a few balls in before the 8 went in, so you lost. Neat shot anyway.
