IMHO..The light refraction produces more color rather than sparkle....people want to see the colors in an opal rather than bling. A Welo Opal is more commonly Larger than a Black opal or Seam Opal, so faceting an Opal that is fat and clear only enhances the gem. Other Opal types need to be viewed from only one perspective (head on and slightly angled in different directions) which limits the ability to facet one.
What's the point in faceting opals (aside from the fact that people want faceted opals for some strange reason) since a domed shape gives such better results?
