I was in the freaking Navy in boot camp & my first ship this year. Missed the concert in ATL 'cause I was in the Med playing Cold War with the Russians and Lebanese insurgents!
may i add that Joe English adds KICK to the drumming on this that geoff britten just couldnt muster. nice to hear this classic wings lineup playing this!
I lost respect for Paul for leaving Denny Lane penniless for a few years before helping him back on his feet. Paul is a very smart but a very shrewd businessman.
this was such a cool band, could never understand why the musicians kept leaving Paul, and they never did anything after they would leave either, lazy bastards!!
why did he cut this song from the play list when they toured america later in the year?
interesting how animated jimmy was in this clip...wonder if paul told him to knock it off cause he was much more reserved as the tour went on...
jimmy was the best lead guitarist paul ever employed..he blows away the guy he uses now..rusty anderson...that rusty is drab, colorless and joe english blows abe leborial away as seen in this clip...i admire brian ray and wix though...brian should be the lead gtr !
@ChiroQuacker Paul has always told his band memebrs to be still and jsut be a backing band, then and now. All 4 bandmates he hast today are good friends and like to immitate eachother, leap i n the air while playing and be animated. On the Letterman Show when Brian moved a bit toward center stage and just did some little movements like bending backward and exagerated strumming Paul went up to him mid performance and whispered something. after that they stayed back and to the sides
I love this song. I want to hear McCartney perform it now in 2010!!!
Some of you mentioned Jimmy McCullough. I've read somewhere that he stood outside McCartney's bedroom one night, and pointed a gun at a sleeping Paul. He almost shot the ex-Beatle that night. Is this true?
@IamMagPie no. Jimmy was only in the band for 2 years anyway, and he didnt' express any problems with Paul and Wings unlike some previous band members who quit the band eventually like Denny Laine who complained about Paul micromanaging everyone. If anyone would've done such a thing it would be one of the first people to quit or Laine or a crazy fan. In Lagos Paul and Linda were walking when a gang member pulled them aside at gun point demanding their recorders and money, but no band members
I love this song, I always say the last time I went shopping was when that old man was there. Kids drive, kids shop. we call my brother Junior, and he had a tokeing farm about the time this song came out.
Junior's Farm was released as a single with Sally G as the B side. Both songs were top 20 hits in 1974. Both were recorded during Paul's summer vacation in Nashville.
@slappyabromowitz This was the last Wings (or McCartney) release on Apple Records, so maybe he stopped because it was somehow a reminder of The Beatles.-that's just a guess though. or maybe Paul didn't think it sounded right, or maybe after Jimmy left he stopped playing it because it wasnt the same without Jimmy's guitar playing solo
@njriley55 Excellent! Maybe Paul will add a tour date for the SF Bay Area and I can (hopefully) see him perform it live. For me, I'd like to see him and the band perform more Wings rockers (Junior's Farm, Helen's Wheels, Hi hi hi) and less Beatles.
@NoirFan01 Yeah, I agree (and hope he comes to Atlanta) I could do without hearing Hey Jude for the 47, 865th time! LOL! I did like hearing The Night Before though as he's never done that live.
@AntoniusRome do you know why Jimmy McCullough died of a heroin overdose, I always though he was anti-drug since he wrote Wings songs like 'medicine jar' against drugs.
@QueenBeatlesWings .Dont really know, I know he became increasingly difficult to work with, eventually he left/was fired from Wings, you're right though, 'Medicine Jar' was an anti-drug song.
Been a long time since I've watched my video of this & yes SALLY G was flip side. I can remember a local band performing this song on our senior trip in high school....1975.
i dont think i ve ever heard mc cartney 2 . mc cartney seamed to go through a bit of creative slump in the 80s . although having said that tug of war still if one of my favourite mc cartney albums . in recent years he seams to be back on form again .
some of those old b sides were quite interesting . i doubt if many of theme are on cd even now so those old 45s must be real collectors items . i remember one called zoo gang
Zoo Gang was the flip side of Coming Up. (live version) 1980. It was actually Lunch Box/Odd Sox, Zoo Gang. McCartney 2 was the album that featured Coming Up studio version. Macca tried to capture the same technique from McCartney, his first solo album, 1970. It just didn't fare too well, when I bought it McCartney 2 in the summer of 1980, there were some tracks that were pretty weak. Frozen Jap, Waterfalls, and Darkroom sucked!
O.K. Hey, wasn't Nineteen Hundred and Eighty-Five the B side? Maybe you're thinking of the U.K. release. There are also different B sides to Jet. I had the single with Mamania, and the other B Side was Let Me Roll It.
This is Paul during his 70's Wings period. Here's the line up:
PM, bass vocals (my idol, Paul if you're reading this, I will be speachless if we shake hands one day!) Jimmy McCullogh lead guitar. I feel that he was McCartney's best guitarist, Denny Laine, guitar, vocals. Joe English, drums . Linda McCartney, keyboards. This song, which was released in 1974 was a single. It wasn't on an album. If I can remember, and somebody correct me if I'm wrong, the flip side was a song called Sally G.
Great song, In the chorus when he sings 'where I wanna lay low' it always sounded like he sings 'were all rolling up', (especially in the first chorus of this version).
He took his BAG into a grocery store, bag, get it? Bag of weed? According to a couple biographies, Paul and Linda smoked pot like some people smoked cigarrettes. Maybe it's Junior's pot farm. I'm silly.
these guys are fucked up!

McCartney never ever left Denny Laine penniless, he paid him very good for the time he was with Wings, and has said so on many occasions!
This is a good performance, and it would of improved even more if they had continued to perform it.
I love the band McCartney has now, but Wings are the one and only originals, Laine, Mccoullogh, and English are the very best!
Absolutely thrilled that McCartney has finally performed this fantastic rocker again. Let's hope he keeps it in the setlist.
