To the scriptwriter...If you run directly away from the plane, no matter how fast, you are still going to have cannon pointing up your arse. Cows do this sort of thing when they are being followed by a train.
It could be a spanish bf109, there were bf109's in spain during the spanish civil war, from the condor legion. I don't think that was an spanish bf109, because under the wings it must have a black circle with a withe cross.
The "Buchon" was the name given to the modified Me 109 used by the Spanish Air Force during the forties and fifties (the name refers to the oversized engine) . As the most part of the German ones had been destroyed during the Word War II, The producers of the 1969 film "The Battle of Britain" bought some of them to shoot the movie. By the way , the German soldiers at the opening scene are also Spanish soldiers used as extras.
The Nazi rotter! Actually, the Bf109 had too little flying time for the pilot to bother himself with 12-year-old schoolboys on the ground, baring in mind that he (the pilot) was on this (the wrong) side of the channel. Flying so low would have also made himself vulnerable to attack from allied fighters.
i always figured it would be better to run towards the strafing plane.. that way the pilot has less time to think of their attack run and probably be taken off guard
Yeah true but here it's showed wrong cuz those planes had tampered machine guns pilots twisted them at their will in the hangars so the would cross shot and bullet pattern would make an X at certain distance on some planes. The one that suited pilot the best to start shooting an enemy plane. although at this distance they still would seem to shoot in a straight line.
Lets keep things straight, the Allied pilots shot everything that moved when they were on the hunt but they weren't specificly picking civil targets. They shot at cars, trains enz. And about bombing cities, the germans started with that, Warsaw, Rotterdam, Londen enz.
lets say you are a german-pilot anywhere over england with fuel for circa 10 minutes, have only two or four MG 7,92 with 500rounds each.. and you do not know what dogfigth with hurricane or spit is waiting on your way back over the channel..
DID U THINK ONE GERMAN IS SO STUPID TO SHOOT A CHILD or waste 150 rounds each for this- EVEN NOT THE ASSH. GÖRING HIMSELFE...
Somebody told me a story that her grandad and great uncle got strafed at by a Heinkel's nose gunner during the war, must have just seen them and decided to have a go in passing. They escaped but thier mum's had a go at them for getting thier clothes dirty XD
Even better, this is the first BF109 with guns in the wing instead on top of the nose, above the engine.... Then again, it's a clip nothing more nothing less.. It's the purists like us who feel the urge to set even the smallest details straight ;-)
thsi is an bf-109 fitted with a merlin engine thats why it got the strange nose, did u see the movie battle of britain with m cain, those where actually bf-109 fitted with RR engines.
Thanks for your comment! But what I actually ment is that the BF109 fitted with the DB605 series did not have any machineguns fitted in the wing by my knowledge. Some later G versions did have cannonpods fitted under the main wings but these cannons were not really favoured by its pilots because the fighter lost some critical agility due to this setup and the chain that drove these cannons could break under severe dogfight stress which could damage other vital parts in the wings.
The buchon was a spanish copy of the Bf-109, but mated with a RR merlin engine. It saw service in the 50s with the spanish air force in africa, mainly in ground support ops, equipped with rockets.
yeah... 1. it's only of the later built buchon - of course in some way looking like a messerschmitt...
2. the 109 was introduced in the early 30's... so yes, it was old... but 3. no, the last K-Versions weren't shot down a lot... they were a perfect match up for P-51s...
There are other reasons why it was relatively easy for US at the end of the war...
I don't mean Merlin engine. I mean Junkers engine... During the World War II Germans produced a version of Bf-109 with Junkers engine. And about the Merlin engine - This engine was in Supermarine Spitfire... Germans didn't use this engines in 109's... Oh, may I wrong...
I have been to the Wright-Patt Air museum in the Library and research Dept. there I saw the schematics of the Messerschmidts. Never had the wing mounted guns that far outboard. stop talking crap. I had a 3rd cousin that was a German Luftwaffe pilot on the Eastern front too, Loved the stories of the aircraft
the wing design did that dingdong. The 109 had problems pulling out of a dive as well, most 109 pilots wanted 190's instead until the 109 G came online
Bf-109 E-4,E-7: 2x7.92mm MG-17(in the nose) + 2 x 20 mm MG-FF/M Cannon (in the wings!)
All other Bf109 models had their stock guns mounted in the nosesection above the engine and in the propellerhub. Bf-109 G models had an option to install two mk-108 gunpods under the wings (Rüstsatz R IV).
Yes, the Me109 prototype was using a Merlin as the DB engine was not ready but as the Merlin engine type used in the beginning was diffrent, the shape of the radiator carenage was also diffrent from the one in the movie.
In fact, the 109 could carry 2 MK108 canons, 1 under each wings (not in the wings themselves but in some special containers under the wings on a short pylones) and much closer to the fuselage than in the movie.
It's not the same Me109 type than the one that fought the WWII. This one is a so called Buchon Me109 with english Merlin engine instead of a german DB 600 something. (same fake 1090 as in BoB movies)
One last thing. The 109 doesnt have any gunnery in the wings (guns are located above the engine ...) and even if it was the case, the convergence ballistic tracks seem totally not realistic (they can not be so parallel) ... but the song is very nice ! Who is singing ?
This is Writing to Reach You by Travis, which came out in March 1999, one of their first well-known tunes.
Interestingly, Fran Healy the singer has had a relationship with the German photographer Nora Kryst since 200. They have a son and he now lives in Berlin, her home town, and he wants to apply for German citizenship.
haha, quite. The plane in question is a Hispano Buchon made to resemble an Me109 - which would in reality have had two central MG facing (roughly) straight forward ad well as wing cannon.
Not as ironic as you think, Smiert.. concidering the first Bf 109 prototype, the Bf-109 V1 had a British Rolls-Royce Kestrel engine when it made its debut in September 1935.. Now, THAT is ironic.. ha ha ha..
not so ironic as You think, the germans were not allowed to build aircraft-engines by their own, that was one of the smart politics of Versailles 1919. So all constructions later were diverted when the king of idiots Adolf Hitler took over and rejected all the surpressing politics from the Versailles agreement. I am absolutly not defending Hitler and all the Nazi insanity which was due to follow, but the contract of Versailles was the fertilizer for terror, insanity and horror
I can only agree totally about the Versailles treaty, but I guess nobody could in the wildest nightmares imagine what would follow! But I still think it's a bit ironic that they used a British engine... Then again, the Brits gave the NENE jet engine to the Soviets, who then copied and used it to power the MiG-15.. and if THAT isn't ironic, then I don't know what is!!! :) :) CurtisW / BasicM.
I totally agree, so I hope not only Germany learned from history, even if the history is not telling about the crimes and mistakes of the others. Anyhow, politics and industrial interests often dont have anything to do with nationality, peace, democracy or freedom. I am glad that Versailles wasnt enhanced with the already signed Morgenthau-plan. That would have let our world into another tragedy with all the world involved.
Indeed.. it was bad enough what DID happen, but I guess it was a neccesity as such! Still, hopefully the re-united Germany have learnt its lesson now, and won't allow it to happen again! Much as EU is criticised for much, I think it's a guarentee for peace in Europe, over all..
no need for hope on the germans keeping peace, cause our history is learned teached and reminded. But in order to secure democracy, peace and freedom all the others, the great nations like they call themselves and all the others should face their dark sides of history as well.I dont want to compare anything with genocide, but I want that all nations know their history and not only watch and hope that germany stays peaceful. Then all the others can continue the killing, cause Germany is observed.
Well, yes of'course.. I didn't mean just Germany.. you're perfectly right! All nations are guilty of things in the past, and present.. I'm from Sweden myself, even though I live in the UK, and even though today Sweden is peaceful it wasn't always so! When they took Scania off the Danes, it was a very brutal campaign to turn the formes Danes into good Swedes.. and not forgetting what Sweden did to Poland and Germany, Finland and Russia and many other countries, through war
I dont have any harm against Sweden because of the the thirty-year war, which was executed by Sweden but was continued by many other european countries on german ground. two third of the people in Germany were dead. In Saarbruecken a town I am living close by only 35 from over a thousand did survive, that was more than two third of the population but its known history. So history and more important the circumstances need to be teached and understood. The reasons are as important as the results
And i'm glad you did if it wasn't for the Lion of the North we would all be ruled still by the Vatican.
Not as simple as you make it out to be there was no Germany as there is now some thought on the Catholic side and some German princes fought for the Swedish.
Thanks anyway Gustavus Adolphus shame no one in this shite country (UK) remembers you.
Well, they fought on the land that is Germany today.. no need to complicate matters, is there.. :) I doubt very much Gustav II Adolf is known in the UK, most of the British don't even know their own history, let alone bother to learn about the history of others! Which, in my opinion, is their loss.. I'm fortunate in living in a very historical town in the UK, the oldest recorded town as it happens..
This is the most insulting comment, one full of cowardice. Germans were not ruthless if you compare them to nazi Croatians, but were rather worse than plague. Sir, I feel a bit upset that you were not a victim of nazi German actions. ASSwipe
I probably expressed myself a bit to ..., I changed my mind since a few days when I saw a video about how they treated the soviets. So please disregard my comment.
the war on eastern front was totally diferent... both sides killed all prisioners, there the blood mode was on... I see a full paris in that picture when the germans tok the city... try to look at a french picture after the " americans saviors" arrived... you will see only ashes, death and fire,,,
Haven't film makers or special effects people ever heard of convergence?
Don't they ever look at real WWII footage and wonder why all the bullets/shells in strafing runs tend to hit in one general area instead of neat parallel rows?
just for reference, the Buchon was powered by the merlin, therefore it had no cannon mounted in the nosw as the layout of the engine didnt permit a cannon to be fitted in this position.
The Buchon was a spanish built aircraft, loosely based on the ME 109 airframe but rigged to run the merlin engine.
Yes, two MG´s were mounted in the Engine Cowling and one Canon MG-FF was shooting through the Propeller shaft. In later Versions two MG´s were added into the Wings
early versions of the 109 had only 2 MG's on the nose with room for a 20mm cannon which was not mountedon the early models. The E model had the cannons on the wings. The F and later models had a single cannon in the nose.
"mhew mhew hispano schmispano, wing cannons schming cannons" OMG you're all a bunch of messerschmitters, just enjoy the music, the video wasn't made for extreme aviation enthusiasts, arrghh! *faints* ;) (PS, we all know the FW 190 is the bestest and coolest!)
yea its a music video. not convinced its a 109 though, the squared off cockpit isin seperate scene and nose doesnt look right. its possible and they did have rounder wing ends on later models.
To the scriptwriter...If you run directly away from the plane, no matter how fast, you are still going to have cannon pointing up your arse. Cows do this sort of thing when they are being followed by a train.

CurtisWildebeest 3 years ago
no need for hope on the germans keeping peace, cause our history is learned teached and reminded. But in order to secure democracy, peace and freedom all the others, the great nations like they call themselves and all the others should face their dark sides of history as well.I dont want to compare anything with genocide, but I want that all nations know their history and not only watch and hope that germany stays peaceful. Then all the others can continue the killing, cause Germany is observed.
grazyarnie 3 years ago
Well, yes of'course.. I didn't mean just Germany.. you're perfectly right! All nations are guilty of things in the past, and present.. I'm from Sweden myself, even though I live in the UK, and even though today Sweden is peaceful it wasn't always so! When they took Scania off the Danes, it was a very brutal campaign to turn the formes Danes into good Swedes.. and not forgetting what Sweden did to Poland and Germany, Finland and Russia and many other countries, through war
CurtisWildebeest 3 years ago
.. Only throuh learning from history it will not repeat itself! Both the US and Russia have a lot to learn.. :P
CurtisWildebeest 3 years ago
I dont have any harm against Sweden because of the the thirty-year war, which was executed by Sweden but was continued by many other european countries on german ground. two third of the people in Germany were dead. In Saarbruecken a town I am living close by only 35 from over a thousand did survive, that was more than two third of the population but its known history. So history and more important the circumstances need to be teached and understood. The reasons are as important as the results
grazyarnie 3 years ago
Without a doubt.. :)
CurtisWildebeest 3 years ago
And i'm glad you did if it wasn't for the Lion of the North we would all be ruled still by the Vatican.
Not as simple as you make it out to be there was no Germany as there is now some thought on the Catholic side and some German princes fought for the Swedish.
Thanks anyway Gustavus Adolphus shame no one in this shite country (UK) remembers you.
Barckie 3 years ago
Well, they fought on the land that is Germany today.. no need to complicate matters, is there.. :) I doubt very much Gustav II Adolf is known in the UK, most of the British don't even know their own history, let alone bother to learn about the history of others! Which, in my opinion, is their loss.. I'm fortunate in living in a very historical town in the UK, the oldest recorded town as it happens..

The germans weren't that ruthless.
denherrsv1man 3 years ago 2
This is the most insulting comment, one full of cowardice. Germans were not ruthless if you compare them to nazi Croatians, but were rather worse than plague. Sir, I feel a bit upset that you were not a victim of nazi German actions. ASSwipe
halomolim 3 years ago
I probably expressed myself a bit to ..., I changed my mind since a few days when I saw a video about how they treated the soviets. So please disregard my comment.
denherrsv1man 3 years ago
the war on eastern front was totally diferent... both sides killed all prisioners, there the blood mode was on... I see a full paris in that picture when the germans tok the city... try to look at a french picture after the " americans saviors" arrived... you will see only ashes, death and fire,,,

It's a travis music video .... thats all... get out more lol
badbestfriend 3 years ago
Haven't film makers or special effects people ever heard of convergence?
Don't they ever look at real WWII footage and wonder why all the bullets/shells in strafing runs tend to hit in one general area instead of neat parallel rows?
jg5grue 3 years ago
I liked very much the video, but disliked the music.
Perharps, i'ts a good video indeed!

just for reference, the Buchon was powered by the merlin, therefore it had no cannon mounted in the nosw as the layout of the engine didnt permit a cannon to be fitted in this position.
The Buchon was a spanish built aircraft, loosely based on the ME 109 airframe but rigged to run the merlin engine.
holtbp 3 years ago
arent ME-109 guns mounted in the nose/engine cowling?
relarz 3 years ago
Yes, two MG´s were mounted in the Engine Cowling and one Canon MG-FF was shooting through the Propeller shaft. In later Versions two MG´s were added into the Wings
Olli120 3 years ago
early versions of the 109 had only 2 MG's on the nose with room for a 20mm cannon which was not mountedon the early models. The E model had the cannons on the wings. The F and later models had a single cannon in the nose.
F4Floverandpilot 3 years ago 2
Early variants (E3, E4, E7 and some others but i'm not sure) had weapons in wings (MG FF or MG 17).
From the 109F, weapons were only in the nose (exept additional gunpod on 109G and K).

Yeahhhh Hispano Buchon!! (i am spanish xd)
stege 3 years ago
If he fired the MG's mounted on the fuselage it would have hit the guy from Travis. Instead he uses wing mounted cannon.
SmiertSpionem 4 years ago 2
Yes it's a Hispano Buchon (you can tell by the air intake).
The 'kid' is Fran Healey - singer from Travis.
SmiertSpionem 4 years ago
either hes real lucky or the pilot is a bad shot hehe

Hispano Buchon 109s are actually pretty cool looking. They look just as menacing as the German models.

one of the first type of bf 109
steliobruno 4 years ago
yea its a music video. not convinced its a 109 though, the squared off cockpit isin seperate scene and nose doesnt look right. its possible and they did have rounder wing ends on later models.
agentolshki 4 years ago
Look for a HA-1112 Hispano Buchon on the internet. Its a 109G with a Merlin engine based in duxford, but also some are in the States
metalmelvin 4 years ago
Its a BF-109G something flown by Mark Hanna in duxford or something...i dont know why they dont have that aircraft in IL2...looks pretty cool
upinfection 4 years ago
Hispano Buchon (Me109 with a merlin engine, made in Spain postwar) ;)
SmiertSpionem 4 years ago
I do not understand the meaning of it... and real 109 pilots would shoot with the upper-engine guns in such a case... like snipers.
Whatever... it's just show.

no it should be shooting its nose gun but its not
