conservatives, liberals.....all under the false delimma that one side is the answer and the other is the enemy. we need more libertarians and centerist/independents
and whats wrong with consumerism? its a crime to buy something? sheeesh
@yurikdurka A society without consumerism is NOT a society without buying. A society without consumerism is a society that is not SCARED and SHAMED into addictive and non-nourishing spending patterns in a futile race to satisfy goals that aren't genuine and can't be satisfied with cheap material things in a game that is rigged to pimp the NON-ruling people. Who controls the way we live: us or our possessions?
I can't think of a time where Rage's political views are more valid or important! The western world has become a totalitarian corporate plutocracy. Average citizens and workers are having their rights trampled. They cut services the poor depend on, like medical care and food stamps. They operate sweatshops in countries where evil regime's don't care about their citizens like China. They launch wars to rob nations of their resources. All so the richest people can maintain lavish lifestyles
If your not for their political views your against them and an enemy that he speaks of. I think you shouldn't be allowed to enjoy his music. but, opinions are like...
Is that how you feel towards those who have different opinions? Those that don't agree are enemies? Should be allowed to enjoy? What are you, a fascist?
@OhRlyRly 1. I'm from California, so I do realize what and where that is.
2. In the song, he pronounces it ROH-DAY-OH not ROH-DEE-OH, making it obvious that it is not a cowboy show.
3. It is also "...rollin' down Rodeo..." not "...rollin' into a rodeo" or "into the rodeo" People should then know he's at least talking about a place not a show.
@eyetranceend wait, are you implying that rage is conservative, the wording is confusing. If so you couldn't be further from the truth. Tom morello is basically a confessed communist. He has a cuban flag on his guitar and a hammer and sickle as well. Also the pretty typical "anti-establishment" hippie like message tends to be relatively vague. Communism has NEVER worked, socialist western euro countries are in worse shape than we are. RATM could not have made their millions in cuba
@akallstar5 Agree with the Cuba thing but European people are actually better off than American people, even if our economy is stronger. There is a higher standard of living, better education, longer life expectancy, and more social mobility. This country has an ever growing rich/poor divide, and it's a real problem. No middle class means no freedom and equality.
@sirsquiggly Since its fair to compare one country with an entire continent. Not that I expected you to know what you're talking about since your're just spewing out some garbage you heard on tv.
@JoesTheShow I guess, but when hasn't America been full of immigrants? Every nation in the new world (the Americas) is like that and I don't think that overall immigrants have been bad in any way, it's probably our strength.
@sirsquiggly many fallacies in that statement, first there is less social mobility, because heavy taxation and the "nanny state" leaves little room for you to increase your income/quality of life. Also something "income mobility data" explains the fallacy of the deficit of the rich and the poor being a problem, the data shows that previously poor families got richer, moving out of the "poor bracket" leaving different and less "poor people" and thus a smaller share of US wealth
@sirsquiggly PART 2: Plus the US has massive ammounts of immigration replacing the poor bracket with new poor, as well as young people entering the work force. So, the people comprised of the poor bracket are different, and in reality data shows that that the vast majority of previously poor people leave that bottom 20% in less than a decade. Foreign countries do not have this because the income distribution is regulated, and they have little immigration.
@illkeepyou4ever hahahaha you do realize no matter what color a person is the government will always be shit? now go along and pull your head from your ass.

What are rages political views? people say they are socialist, but if they are then why do they always talk about power to the people and not the machine?
@Ragmora People do have more rights in certain socialist systems such as Libertarian Socialism, in which there is no hierarchical form of "government". It's a full participatory system.
1 Person = 1 Vote (like a "Pure Democracy")
"Its proponents generally advocate a worker-oriented system of production and organization in the workplace that in some aspects radically departs from neoclassical economics in favor of democratic cooperatives or common ownership of the means of production"
@Ragmora Not sure of any examples. Not sure that there have been. Look up Noam Chomsky... There is a great 5 part interview with Chomsky here on you tube. Type in "Noam Chomsky explains Anarchism". This interview is particularly good and full of great info on Anarchism and Libertarian Socialism.
@Ragmora I assumed many Native Americans were anarchist in structure, and indeed after looking into it, i found that there were anarchist tribes in what is now California.
@Ragmora I suppose that could happen in an anarchist system, but I am compelled to believe that once that happens, it would no longer be anarchy. Instead it would be something more of an oligarchy, no?
@Ragmora This is true. But, this is only one form of Socialism. The USSR still had a "Machine" a.k.a a hierarchical form of government. Same as China. China and Russia are communist in nature:
"The exact definition of communism varies, and it is often mistakenly, in general political discourse, used interchangeably with socialism; however, Marxist theory contends that socialism is just a transitional stage on the road to communism."
@umphrekish and regarding the transitional stage from socialism to communism - Being a socialist society doesn't posit that the society will indefinitely become communism. It's the same with Democracy. Democracy works, but it can become a Plutocracy, but it doesn't HAVE to become a plutocracy, which is basically what the U.S. has become.
@Ragmora A plutocracy none the less. This country is run by big business and corporate lobbyists. The government itself is a business. Look into what happened to your tax money the day before 9/11. Look into what is happening to social programs compared to big oil subsidies.
Regarding individual rights in all existing socialist systems: USSR and China were not socialist systems. They operated under Communism, and Communism is a far cry from socialism, especially Libertarian Socialism
