I remember when i was a kid and saw lady sings the blues with Diana Ross and i begged my mom to go buy the "record" for me and she did,I wish I still had it.thank god for you tube.
-- whenever I am down, I am hurting, I feel forgotten... I listen to her. She is the saint for the lonely, the sinners, the forsaken, the lost. Her voice tells you that she knows... she knows that pain that gnaws at your insides. She knows the unrest that keeps you up at night, the part of you that is broken and will probably never be complete... Sad life, sad lady, amazing singer.
we are speaking of a couple of L.A. "boys...who would hitch hike down to Santa Monica from downtown, then start back from the day of body surfing at the beach... wlking & thumbing and dropping into some seedy dive bars to make it at happy hour -
Dad's buddy Cleve was 6'3" and looked over 21... so he scored the drinks and they would groove to the cool Jazz -
Big Joe Turner , Billie Holiday, Teddy Wilson and others, my Dad can still tell you who is on

My Father (89 years old)...used to drop by a little club on Pico Blvd in L.A.
and listen to Miss Billy the Lady -
Live - I think it was the Chatter Box-
also frequented by Slim & Slam-
and even Teddy Wilson !

Oscar was not so much back when Billie did gigs in L.A. - probably Teddy Wilson
Oscar was a modern Jazz piano man-
this is old school -
