I was a Crew Chief on F-15s with the 1st Tactical Fighter Wing, 27th tactical Fighter Squadron, one of the oldest fighter squadrons in the US, stationed at Langley AFB, Va. (Tail designator "FF") I arrived in 1976 and left in 1980, my aricraft's tail number was 4125 and my pilot's name was Capt. Dale Cook. I loved this plane and take it from me, besides the F-22 there is nothing in the sky that can touch this aircraft after all this time. Great video, thanks.
@mardi06 I was avionics at the 27th FS in the mid to late 90's (we had C models then). I have to agree with you. As much as I love the F-15 and it's impressive 101:0 air to air kill ratio...The F15 is no match for a F-22.

I had the opportunity to talk to a couple of the Crew Chiefs but couldn't talk them in to showing me around their planes LOL.

One reason im always facinated by these aircraft is that if you had the honor to fly one you are untouchable (in a sence) Basically "IF" there is anything less than a SAM,or another aircraft with a better pilot your god for the time being.

And you missed the price on the the F-22 by at least a factor of 2, which is interesting because it can defeat those other planes by a ratio of 100-to-1. Unless the Migs cost as much as a mazda, the raptor has it. Meanwhile, the score on the F-15 vs MiG-29 matchup is a shut out, more than ten to zero.
F-15 is surely the jet with best reputation so far, but i kinda think true american legend is p-51. there's something magical about mustang and it will be the best aircraft ever. aerial battles of ww2 were true test of human factor (i.e. pilot's skills) and in these modern times most of stuff is BVR fight. nice vid btw.

@somgangsta Su-27 never a suffered a combat loss; downed just as many "modern" jets (versus many MiG-29 over Eritrea), and done so without the support of jamming aircraft (i.e., its enemies were actually able to shoot back). The F-15's added tally of dated, beyond-visual-range combat capability-lacking MiGs isn't much to brag about; the Su-27, too, would have nothing less than a field day against such dated machines. The F-15 having been in more wars doesn't make it better; that's US politics.

uh lets see, i can tell you're not informed too well because the US doesnt have any su27's, we dont make them, we dont use them, and we dont sell any because we dont get a and actually the F15 pilots from the 80's-90's were told NOT to get into a turning fight with the SU-30 or MiG-29 because they could both turn inside the F15 although the F15 is much better at OVR once the turning begins the F15 pilot should piss his pants. not to say one is better than the other (1of2)
its just that they were built for different roles. the SU-30 was built as the body of the Russian air force and the MiG-29 built to not only counter the F15 but to be able to turn inside any known aircraft because once you get in a turning fight keeping a normal payload but being small enough, fast enough, and agile enough to get your weapons on target. both are great aircraft and both are nearly assured death wish to take on

The Su-30s were gunned down by F-15 at Red Flag in 2008 and at least seven MiG-29s have been shot down in actual air to air combat by F-15s and F-16s. Second, I am very well informed, more so than you. Pride Aircraft Inc. in Illinois sells Su-27s. Go to their website and watch the videos. Next time insult your own intelligence buddy.
@ceskazbrojovka17HMR Over the last ten years the kil ratio of RAAF F/A-18 to USAF F-15C/E is 1 to 5, meaning for every 1 F-15 shot down by Hornets 5 Hornets have been shot down by F-15s. This ratio is a tally of all exercises conducted on both RAAF and USAF tra/doc tactical air warfare exercises withing the last ten years. This is an improvement for the RAAF as just a few years before that the score was 16 to 1 in favor of the F-15s. The RAAF F/A-18s record is far better than the RCAF CF-18s.
@Maraudershark1 And if the RAAF had F-15s, we would we smoking the USAF. It comes down to the plane, not the pilot. RAAF pilots are trained for much longer then their USAF counterparts. It takes no less than 4 years for someone to become a D-CAT FA-18 pilot here. Compare that to about 2 years and 6 months for someone to become an F-16 pilot in the USAF. You can see the differences.
@ceskazbrojovka17HMR Part of the reason why the RAAF hornet training takes so long is becuase the RAAF doesn't have many aircraft, so they have to be careful when selecting who flys them. And I don't think you are aware of the RAAF's combat performance compared to the USAF and USN including and following WWII. Its good to be proud of your country but you are being very arrogant, considering the USAF wrote the RAAF's ACM Doctrine and the RAAF looks to the USN for further Hornet advisory.
@somgangsta Actually it was 1976, not '78. I wouldn't call the Raptor crap, expensive? yes. The F-15 remains the backbone of the fighter force due to changes in where defense funding is going now since there is less of need in the Pentagon's view for advanced air superiority fighters like the F-22.

this is probably the most loved fighter jet in the world. a lot of people will be heart broken when they take it out of service. getting old but still can go toe to toe with the best of them.
This is one of the better vids I've seen of the 15. As a former ECM technician for this aircraft, no matter what comes along for technology, this will always be my favorite aircraft.
@EagleKeeper8085 CRS guy myself - I share your feelings. Part of my reminiscence is about a point in history. We were badasses. Now, we're going to have to work smart/hard as a nation to regain the economic power we had in the 80's that, in turn, financed our world dominance in military R&D.
@EagleKeeper8085 Minot AFB. Cadre at 5th FIS late 1985 to 1986 when it replaced the F-106 mission. In 1987 returned to Lowry as an F-15 instructor for a few years.
Minot was cold. They sent all of the honor grads there as cadre; changed our orders to do it. Later, I taught the F-15, but I liked teaching fundamental electronics there even better. Nothing like FF though. Outstanding, dude.
Always will be my favorite bird. The honor flyby in 2007, during the phase-out, brought tears. F-15 engineering was ages ahead of 3rd generation fighters.
I'll have to buy a few F-15 Eagles for the New Zealand Air force.

And you missed the price on the the F-22 by at least a factor of 2, which is interesting because it can defeat those other planes by a ratio of 100-to-1. Unless the Migs cost as much as a mazda, the raptor has it. Meanwhile, the score on the F-15 vs MiG-29 matchup is a shut out, more than ten to zero.

F-15 is surely the jet with best reputation so far, but i kinda think true american legend is p-51. there's something magical about mustang and it will be the best aircraft ever. aerial battles of ww2 were true test of human factor (i.e. pilot's skills) and in these modern times most of stuff is BVR fight. nice vid btw.

As you said F-15 is a 4th generation fighter jet so you can't compare with the 5th generations fighters jets ! And Rafale is not so awesome as we can think (I'm french... I prefer a lot the Mirage 2000). The last generation of Russian jets are much more better than this our Rafale. Just like the F-22.

@somgangsta Su-27 never a suffered a combat loss; downed just as many "modern" jets (versus many MiG-29 over Eritrea), and done so without the support of jamming aircraft (i.e., its enemies were actually able to shoot back). The F-15's added tally of dated, beyond-visual-range combat capability-lacking MiGs isn't much to brag about; the Su-27, too, would have nothing less than a field day against such dated machines. The F-15 having been in more wars doesn't make it better; that's US politics.

The Americans know the Su-27 inside and out, that's why the Su-30s got the shit kicked out of them in 2008 and couldn't score a single kill against the F-15s in WVR. By the way, the Su-30s were flying clean but still got GUNNED down by F-15s with wingtanks. F-15 + US/IAF pilots = YOU LOSE. Deal with it.

its just that they were built for different roles. the SU-30 was built as the body of the Russian air force and the MiG-29 built to not only counter the F15 but to be able to turn inside any known aircraft because once you get in a turning fight keeping a normal payload but being small enough, fast enough, and agile enough to get your weapons on target. both are great aircraft and both are nearly assured death wish to take on

The Su-30s were gunned down by F-15 at Red Flag in 2008 and at least seven MiG-29s have been shot down in actual air to air combat by F-15s and F-16s. Second, I am very well informed, more so than you. Pride Aircraft Inc. in Illinois sells Su-27s. Go to their website and watch the videos. Next time insult your own intelligence buddy.

@ceskazbrojovka17HMR Over the last ten years the kil ratio of RAAF F/A-18 to USAF F-15C/E is 1 to 5, meaning for every 1 F-15 shot down by Hornets 5 Hornets have been shot down by F-15s. This ratio is a tally of all exercises conducted on both RAAF and USAF tra/doc tactical air warfare exercises withing the last ten years. This is an improvement for the RAAF as just a few years before that the score was 16 to 1 in favor of the F-15s. The RAAF F/A-18s record is far better than the RCAF CF-18s.

@Maraudershark1 And if the RAAF had F-15s, we would we smoking the USAF. It comes down to the plane, not the pilot. RAAF pilots are trained for much longer then their USAF counterparts. It takes no less than 4 years for someone to become a D-CAT FA-18 pilot here. Compare that to about 2 years and 6 months for someone to become an F-16 pilot in the USAF. You can see the differences.

@ceskazbrojovka17HMR Part of the reason why the RAAF hornet training takes so long is becuase the RAAF doesn't have many aircraft, so they have to be careful when selecting who flys them. And I don't think you are aware of the RAAF's combat performance compared to the USAF and USN including and following WWII. Its good to be proud of your country but you are being very arrogant, considering the USAF wrote the RAAF's ACM Doctrine and the RAAF looks to the USN for further Hornet advisory.

@somgangsta Actually it was 1976, not '78. I wouldn't call the Raptor crap, expensive? yes. The F-15 remains the backbone of the fighter force due to changes in where defense funding is going now since there is less of need in the Pentagon's view for advanced air superiority fighters like the F-22.
The Eagle is still one of my favorite fighters of all time. Good video.

Minot was cold. They sent all of the honor grads there as cadre; changed our orders to do it. Later, I taught the F-15, but I liked teaching fundamental electronics there even better. Nothing like FF though. Outstanding, dude.
Always will be my favorite bird. The honor flyby in 2007, during the phase-out, brought tears. F-15 engineering was ages ahead of 3rd generation fighters.
