  • That guitarist is the Late and Great James Honeyman Scott. Outstanding on the guitar. Was not good at doing drugs though. He died after thier 1st album.

  • Not trying to be a no it all but he died after there second album on 16 June 1982

  • I'm sure it's not,but that lead guitatist kinda resembles a young Andy Summers.

  • This song is heart-stopping. Gotta love top o the pops!

  • honestly, cythera-- this show must have been amazing! all these vids from TofTP on youtube with tons of great bands. lucky brits to have experienced this when you were younger.

  • Lovely but boycott israel

  • i never realised chrissy was so hot... ill have to go to the toilet for a quick one off the wrist. lol !

  • Hellyeah! I got my ticket for their Feb. 10th at the Cleveland House of Blues--any single ladies between 18 and 40 who are interested in going message me hehe...

  • I saw The Prentenders play back in 1983. They are such a tight band. Their live performances sounded as good or better than their recorded tracks.

  • this song should have done a lot better in the charts it only got in the top 30 or 40 in 1979.

  • HAHAHA....One of the best comments I've read on You-Tube.Well written!

  • and so ironic that they are called...

  • damn amin1950!!1 you friggin' nailed it!! i've been saying that stuff for years and its' nice to know thre are like minds out there!!

  • Beautiful.

  • woah, toooooo insightful for youtube - I had to read it twice,,,,,,, but your absolutely right

  • you're very right. But at the same time.

Kid is a masterpiece; not, everyone can do a "Kid"

Love this song and absolutely love this band!

  • One of the finest guitar solos in pop. James Honeyman-Scott was a quiet genius.

  • 'Someone said that you're fading too soon...'

  • Her voice is so beautiful.

  • Listen to the wistfulness in the melody between around 1:42-1:48...truly heartbreaking--London and Lucas I love you!!!

  • We in Ohio are extremely proud she is from around here-Chrissie--we know you know this, but...WE LOVE YOU.

  • I've dug Chrissy since day one, and saw her in a magazine recently. She opened a restaurant in Akron. She is 57, so she was 28 here. Anyone know if she modeled after Patty Smyth? And what was her relationship to Ray Davies?

  • they dated; they tried to get married; the counselor refused to marry them; they had a kid they broke up.

  • The Honeyman was sooooo good. As a guitar player I really miss that cat.

  • I am going to see The Pretenders tribute band, Talk Of The Town on Friday, Dec. 5. They are playing at Frank Cariola's Sundance in Rocky Point, NY. The lead singer Mary Beth, looks like and sounds like Chrissie. Its scary. Thats 60 mile drive from Manhattan (90 mns). The Police band , Invisible Sun are also playing that same night.

  • Rest in peace you beautiful boys Pete and James......

  • before drugs ravaged her.

  • chrissie and souxsie defining voices of my youth peace out

  • I'm sorry I was thinking also about Pete when I said JHP

  • my dead sister loved this song. She used to bathe when this song would play. Good memories. See i am in a wheel chair and my sweet sexy sister would sop me up with her soft hands. Now some old homeless dude has to do it. It isn't very funny. i loved the way my sister smelled. You wish you had a family like mine

  • Akron's First Lady is looking pretty cute here.

That Firebird solo is as good as it gets. This is how you do it, kids.

  • Chrissie at her foxiest

  • Wow! Seeing Chrissie look this good makes my heart skip a beat.

  • First rock goddess I fell in love with

  • J'adore!!!

  • CHRISSIE LOOKS VERY PRETTY HERE!

  • Yes she does...

  • RIP Jimmy...ah, what might have been!

  • Easily one of the most perfect guitar solos of all time. The first two Pretenders albums border on perfection.

  • I'm sure someone must know this - What happened to the beautiful pink guitar that James Honeyman-Scott is playing? I've never seen one like it before.

  • It's a Gibson non-reverse Firebird in the "Cardinal Red" finish option (1965/'66-ish). Basically the guitar started out as a really bright fire engine type of red and as it aged it subdued into that pink kind of color. Whatever happened to that particular guitar I have no idea, I'd imagine one of Jimmy's family members has it.

  • That's never faded Cardinal red! It's just TOO pink. I've seen quite a few Gibson Firebird/SG Cardinal reds from the 1960s but none anywhere near like this one - they don't fade as dramatically as Fenders. This guitar is in the fairground video of "KID" as well and you can see it's a real all over vivid pink.

  • ya man I just checked out the music vid and you're right it looks a lot more pink there but the whole vid looks washed out. Still tho, I've seen a couple cardinal reds that fade into a pretty similar shade, maybe not quite as dramatically. I mean, a nitro finish is a nitro finish, Fender or Gibson. Any that are gigged or played to any considerable extent will fade for the first few decades. Maybe he had it refinished and it turned out funky. Either way, my vote goes to a way aged Cardinal Red.

  • If I'm not mistaken, his wife, Peggy Sue had it. At this moment, I don't know if she still has it-

  • Great song...Chrissie Hynde...One of the most dynamic females in rock...Glad to see a new one coming...I will be there!!!!!

  • Nobody chose the right notes like Jimmy. Easily one of my favorite understated solos of all time. Perfect!

  • song is about a kid finding out his mom is a prostitute. Chrissie told that story on Storytellers.

  • Chrissie Hynde is the best! And always such a eloquent and dependable advocate for animal rights.

  • Fuck me!

Suggest most recent respondents get lives.

It is purely and simply a great little song... and, unknown to me, uploaded by one of my best mates.I found it completely at random. How cool is that?

  • yeah but JHS drank and drugged himself to death, so, I guess it's academic ...

  • Never a particular beauty (least not in my eyes) and heard her attitude was for shit from those who would know but, definitely a mangificient lyricist (that's a song writer for thise of you raised on Nintendo & Ridlin).

  • i saw the in nyc in 1980 at the beacon theather...great show!!!! during the break i got to go backstage and just before the dressing room i tripped over some ones feet...the legs belonged to chambers.lol....he was a real gent about it.

  • why would you even take the time to slag CH and JHS?

did they come inside yer dad or something?

he's a truly unique talent, and chrissie writes great songs. she's also the best girl gtr player ever.

    no, not lita ford.

  • its just a pop song nothing more or less and dont pick at peoples physical appearrance i bet u dont look so great

  • Oops - sorry. I wasn't "picking" at anyone's physical appearance. Frankly, CH is in my top five for hottest women, and her unique talent is beyond dispute. I was just answering someone else who didn't like her face. I like it a lot.

  • What type of guitar is that at 0:58? I forget the name of it, A Firebird with a reversed body?

  • What "type" of guitar is it? It is a 6-string electric solid-body.

  • Ok.. What model of guitar. Which company manufactured it.

  • It's definitely an early to mid-60's Gibson Firebird. Body isn't reversed, some of them looked like that

  • Thanks.

  • This takes me back and gives goosebumps. Love it a lot. ty

  • One of may favorite bands in HS and favorite songs.

  • What a pure "Hit" song. Can you imagine hearing this the first time if you managed them or worked for the record company? TALENT!

  • Chrissie, you look gorgeous here.

Fell in love with you when I heard "show me" in the early 80's, would love to get your red leather jacket you wore on the first album.

I've cut down on burgers, if it makes you happy.

  • sometimes she's cute, other times she's not

  • Well, she has a great face but I don't think her skin is too good. You can get the heebie-jeebies if she doesn't have pancake on or isn't shot in soft focus.

  • Saw The Pretenders (Norwich St Andrews Hall) just before they released Kid. They were all in the pub beforehand, had a chat. James Honeyman-Scott was a gent, he took time to talk and he was saying that he bought his stagegear from Johnsons in London. The "Space Invaders" game had just come out and I paired up with Pete Farndon on a two player. He was more blunt with us, a nice enough chap but the dark side was there, deffo. Martin Chambers was great, Chrissy Hynde just scowled and ignored us.

  • James Honeymoon-Scott, one of the best guitarist that rock´n´roll has ever seen!

  • I keep hearing this about JH Scott being "one of the best" - c'mon, he was just OK. If Chrissy's songwritin wasn't so great, no one would have ever heard of Scott. Any pub band guitarist is as good as he was.

  • This is YouTube - you're welcome to post a video of your amazing chops so we can rightly take the pi**.

    JHS was amazing.

  • What am I supposed to do? Post a vid of me playing "Brass in Pocket"? It's two suspended chords with a standard chorus. Any bar-band player could play it in two seconds. You are mistaking Hynde's unique songwriting for Scott's rather mundane Chuck Berry playing. It's like the Beatles with Harrison and Ringo Starr - they would have never been known but for Lennon & McCartney's songwriting. Scott was competent, but "great"? Give me a break.

  • are you suggesting the ringo and harrison were not great..are you serious? fuck you, you know nothing of music.

  • Possibly the most perfect guitar solo ever captured - it has corners, it complements the song, and it is as infectious as the song itself.

    We miss you Jimmy.

  • Love Chrissy! Check out the rare video of Crissie Hynde & Jarabe de Palo...do a search or check my page....first page of my favs. Incredible.

  • yeah that's Chrissy in her 'raccoon' period :))

great song, always brings a tear to my eye...

  • One great song to another......the band starting to play on at the end is, The Knack and My Sherona.....

  • tamesidecitizen.blogspot

  • Crisse Rocks, She's the queen of Rock. Unmatched in song writing abilaty and such a lushous voice

  • I agree. I think Heart is pretty good too.

  • what a fucking great guitar player!!! James Honeyman-Scott... see you soon!!!

  • i saw all of them in toronto in 1980 and albany, ny 1982,,,,,i had a major crush on chrissy.....she released an "unplugged" album too

  • I saw them at JB Scott's, in Albany, NY. They were promoting their first album, so it must have been '80 or '81.

  • i still have a copy of their first vinyl album it was copyright of 1979. I saw them at the heatwave '80 concert in 1980 and the played the

palace theater in 1982 and were promoting

Pretenders II their second album....they had an EP inbetween. I was at the Jb Scott's show too and that was 1981

  • Love this forever! Thanke~

  • Oh Pete and James, what a waste.

I've been playing guitar most of my life but James Honeyman Scott's 15 second solo in this song is my favorite ever. As a kid i wanted to look like Pete and play like James.

Who cares about 50 cent?. Just a hyped up talentless thug who got lucky if you ask me.

  • good stuff!

  • I kinda got lost here. Fitty cent although he is my neighbor is crap! He bought Tysons house and dumped cash into it. has had 3-4 parties that I wasnt invited too Like I would go anyways. Waiting for the bullets to fly there.

The Pretenders Rock and always will. New album coming this year.

  • great thanx for posting

  • Thanks for that one Ray Davies....

  • I was 20 years old when this was made and watch choking back tears. For you youngsters out there, all I can say is if there is a band you like, see them live when you can.

They won't stay young -- or alive -- forever.

    Chrissie :wubs:

  • RIP Jimmy and Pete. We miss you.

  • pete and james!

  • one of the greatest songs ive ever heard in my entire life. that voice is beautiful. the music is absolutely perfect from its construction to the tone. hear that bassline? lol

  • One of the few groups I think are genius. Almost all their songs are hits. 70's/80s music was the best.

  • WOW! she is gorgeous there!... also she rocks out on a tele, u can't beat that! also now she opened an awesome new vegetarian based restaurant in her hometown so "fookin" cheers, mate!

  • yeah yougot it right she was gorgeous there at that moment in time but fuck she looks rough now and could do with some sleep and some decent company rjw882 try the veggie pasta bake its well cool xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • Fiddy cent is callimg you.

  • ppalaz1 yeh fiddy cent is close by well said xxx

  • The real deal, the groudbreaking music they put out is stunning. The greatest woman rocker of all time I would say.

  • Man, they haven't been the same since James "Honeyman" Scott left us.

  • Well, now we know where Amy Winehouse got her look!

  • lol again, it's a Firebird non-reverse headstock with three P90 single coils i think. I have no idea what year. I own a Gibson ES446, Gibsons are great... buy one.

  • one of the most amazing timeless songs ever, very charming... love the vintage guitar twang

  • Does anyone know what guitar he is playing at 1:30 ?

  • telecaster

  • That's no tele. I am talking about the pink guitar with three humbuckers.

  • It looks like a Gibson logo on the headstock, probably some odd model from years ago.

  • Gibson Firebird

    google, Gibson Firebird pics

  • i really love chrissy but she is so lip syncing

  • Everyone knew that TOTP was mimed at the time, some artists tried a little bit, most didn't try at all, but lets face it they were a lot more honest than they are now, because the line between lip sync and live has become somewhat blurred

  • Chrissy, extremely sexy and talented. J.A.

  • She actually looks good once she gets the hair out of her eyes.

  • vintage!wow, thanks for sharing.I always think what a loss of james honeyman-scott was to the music industry.

  • One of my five favorite songs.

  • If talented was a sickness then Chrissy would be the sickest girl on earth.

So beautiful sexy ans oh so Super talented.

  • 100% mejor q blondie!!!

  • this inspired my band to pick up a new cover...

  • Do any kids from Ely remember the Pretenders gig at their local school when this single came out? I do!

  • Definitely my favourite song

  • Smoking Hot !!!! And so Cool with it

  • She´s a rock n roll godess. #7 my ass!!! Chrissie´s number 1. She´s on top of the world. Plus she´s gorgeous and a brilliant singer.

  • i wanna marry someone like chrissie hynde!

  • Im still in love with this song (thank God I have the original video) BUT since I couldnt see them here in the states back in the 80's its always good to see the original members live!

  • Chrissy Hynde is so cool, I always wanted to be like her when I was at school. Love this song, don't know what it's about, but does that matter?

  • It's about this kid who finds out that his mom was a model in a nude magazine and then he's mad at her.

  • Actually about a prostitute who`s son finds out what she is !!
