  • Well done Mels. Nice effort. For those that are being mean they must have been born knowing how to do everything perfectly for the rest of us we have to learn and I think you did well. I'm hoping to take up TREC in the coming year if and when I find myself a suitable horse partner.

  • You know as a kind of aside I have seen clinton anderson on a public video yank a horse's head hard with a rope to 'keep it focused' on him all the time while the two were 'just' standing near eachother. The horse didNot understand WhY it was being jerked on like that and i lost ALL apreciation for a trainer I had cautiously approved of for gentle methods. I look at how a person treats an animal, not the method or the games BUT you sure can teach a horse all the games you want.,Just make it fun

  • I'm sorry , but until the Parellis grow up and start recommending -helmets, I will consider them back yard trainers...

I have sen quite a few horses become really messed up w/ their "games".

I met Pat years ago and was told by him that my horse was just not a "good" one to work with... too bad I only won at 4th Level Dressage and got Regional Titles in Western Trail as well as Dressage, Jumping and Side Saddle...

  • You guys did great. Both you and the horse. Take each success and ignore the rest.

  • @nyzbii Thank you, and very good words of advice.

  • GOOD JOB but i would really enjoy seeing that bareback and i know that with a saddle it was difficult but seeing that bareback would be AWSOME!

  • @ArabianImages I'd love to give it a go now bareback. I may see if i can when i get back into trec but at the moment my mare has just foaled so we are not doing so much.

  • @MelsPartner congrats on the foal

  • Just ignore all the rude comments i think you did a GREAT job with your horse & keep up the good work:))

  • @Cholina12 Thank you, I am trying to keep improving ;-)

  • whys everyone being so horrible? i think she did really well, and if everybody thinks she did so badly it might be nice if you tried doing it before criticizing - it is very hard! she got great marks anyway, so the proffessionals thought she did well and so do i :)

  • @ericalibbydibby Thanks for the kind words :-)

  • why such horrible comments? She's not trying to say she's the best rider in the world, just posting some moments with her and her horse! Get a life and stop critisizing.

  • In England, everyone is so use to leading their horses like toddlers that they are brainwashed, same goes for riding. You know, it's lack of horsemanship in Britian thats the biggest killer, we are only taught to ride and in every lesson I have been, I was only taught to ride and I was never taught about horse behavior. God not even the life saving one rein stop was ever mentioned!

  • BeyondChaos64, no idiot, obvously you sound like an english rider. Parelli dose not teach bad manners, comfey webbed halters, treats and allowing your horse to invade your space creats problems, did you know that? probably not...

  • Parelli may look like 'circus tricks' but theirs a trick behind it. Parell teaches horses to face up their fears using everyday objects, it has saved peoples lives and mine aswell. And I don't just use parelli, I use John o'leary's methods too.

  • People call it circus tricks because they don't understand. In The British riding system, we have been taught the same sad attitude, 'pony bad, hit pony'. I can tell you that if I asked a rider at my locial riding school 'whats a left brain introvert horse' they would even answer.

  • I am sick and tired of our attitudes towards horses in britian. Horses are seen as a luxury and if they can't be ridden, can't jump, bucks, rears blah blah they are sold or sent to slaughter, why because Britian are brain dead towards horses!

  • Gypsy787878 , you are very smart and savy , pls continue the good job to open Britain 's eyes. Brustish people are in the middle ages when it comes to horses. You are correct.

  • I know that there is more than just riding horses. I train them for a living. I was only implying that you could bear better skills. I'm glad that you are a much, much better rider now. That's a very loyal horse of yours, as well.

  • Thank you TBjumper for your comments and you can obivsouly read horses well she is very loyal.

  • This was a good course, and a nice horse for the most part, but the rider... No offense to anyone, but I'll say it nicely, that rider needs a thousand more lessons before she should think of owning her own horse.

  • Thankyou TBjumper she's a lovely horse, & i really hear what you;re saying about the riding, i watch it & cringe now, but i hadn't ridden hardly before getting her. Thankfully the riding is improving all the time. in regards to the fact that i'd need more lessons before owning her, well lessons only teach you to ride, and there is alot more to owning a horse than riding. There are many people who own horses who don't / can't ride and there are people who are great riders but not good owners.

  • I would just like to take the time to say that parelli is the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen. It teaches bad manners and I personally witnessed a parelli "trainer" kill a horse "playing" a game to load her in a trailer.

  • There's a big difference between Parelli and other people trying to copy Parelli. Parelli is a pretty good trainer, but not the best. He communicates with the horses and makes them do things they would or wouldn't have to do, as in this video.

  • its a pattern were the horse has to manuver difficult turns and circles at the walk trot and canter. you also have to back through taugh zigzags or Ls. u have to walk on like a hay stcker ething called a bridge. u also have to zigzag or surpentine at the trot. it is very difficult.

  • cool. it kinda looks like a trail pattern

  • oh, what's a trail pattern, I don#'t know if we have them here in England.

  • The Parelli -"Way More than Riding" - USA Tour will be at the Alliant Energy Center (1919 Alliant Energy Center Way) in Madison, July 12-13. • Thanks a lot MelsPartner....I think he's the Its "5'oclock somewhere".. Jimmy Buffet duo guy....didn't notice he was

this country. I like a lotta different music. This is nice. Lot of my friends are "closest" country. Isnt as popular in Oz.

    Thanks

  • I think it's more popular in oz than it is here in the UK lol but i like country to.

  • Hi Spudsie the song is "she don't know she's beautiful" by Alan Jackson.

  • Anyone tell me the song and artist please

  • Hi Spudsie the song is "she don't know she's beautiful" by Alan Jackson.

  • it isnt alan jackson.

  • I really like the song. Can anyone tell me what it is called and who is singing it?

  • i hate how every horse video has some crappy country song!!

  • I guess we all have different tastes in music; It wouldn't be a very interesting world if we all were the same.

  • i dont want everyone to be the same i just think stupid inbred hics singing about there sister is good.

  • Parelli isn't all that great. She was pulling the horse's face off to make some of those turns and her posistions was soo floppy. Don't tell me I don't know what I'm saying b/c I do ride and I'm an ok rider--not great but I do know good riding from bad riding. Thank good ness that horse didn't have a bit in his mouth...

  • Hi, FYI Parelli actually teaches freestyle or casual rein riding in the hackamore. The rider is supposed to have an independent seat and be able to flow with the horse before picking up contact (or jumping etc.). When i started doing Parelli, I did it in a rope halter with 12' lead, so their is no chance of accidently pulling with two reins.

  • What does having an independent seat have to do with her flopping around on the horse's back? And if you are taught to ride w/o contact then why is she pulling on the horse's mouth?

  • My point is that at least in this video, she didn't have an independent seat, hence the flopping. She's probably accidentally bracing on the reins for balance. If you watch any of her other videos, she seems to be flowing much, much more with her horse later on. In a later comment Mels Partner says she cringes when she watches this video now.

  • That's a nice thought. This vid may have just been a flub then.

  • Thanks Vict1725 your read the situation exactly. I was bracing and no whey did ia have a balanced seat.

It would be an easy enough thing for me just to take this vid off of youtubem as it is not the best i can do now, and it is not the best example of parelli, But from where we started this was amazing and i like it to see the difference as we progress.

  • I think it's neat to see the improvement too!

  • shes not pulling on the horses mouth. theres actually no bridle or halter on the horse. the lead shes useing is somehow staying under its neck where the head meets neck. its just hard to see cause the angles bad and the horse is so dark.

  • @blackpheonix1254 Hi there was a halter on him but nothing in his mouth, and the reason being i knew my balance wasn't great but i was working on improving it so i didn't ride in a bit so as not to cause my horse more discomfort.

  • @EVTR4lfe Hi there because i was making alot of mistakes. none the less at the time of posting this video i was very proud of it, as we had come along way from where we started. i could easily take this video down now but feel if i did that it would be for the wrong reasons.

  • i never said that but when u go out side the box u find new things and get those down and it improves everything else

  • ugh. parelli just makes horses crazy.

  • hell no some people who r just startin arnt that great but parelli teaches people 2 use horse sence not horses useing people sence

  • sorry, this is my opinion and you're not gunna change it. all the horses that have had parelli used on them are crazy. no beginner or intermediate rider can even touch them.

  • well they messed up somwhere but ive triand 5 horses that way and there the sweetest horses that i can trust anyone on and they have great respect 4 me i take the time to trian them the right way (not the only way though) and i have a 4 year odl that i can jump bridless what the hell made u hate parelli so much?!?!?!

  • the crazy horses made me hate them. it's a shame to see those beautiful horses turned to shit because a training 'program' went wrong. majority of parelli people take it wayyy too far, and say it's the only way, and they abuse it. and yes, i'm sure some people do use parelli and see great results, but i've yet to see a live horse witht hem.

  • anyone can take any trianing method to far its not just parlli im taking my trianing as far as it goes but not in a crazy way my horse is the sweetest horse and does/ tries to do everything i ask her 2 in parelli u find out ur horses weaknesses and stanths and improving them parelli are 4 those horse lovers how want a life long partener its ur choise how far u go whith it

  • me and my horse are the onlt ones that can read each other clearly. we're bonded to the point where i can't stand being away fom here for long periods. i know her bad way is the right. and she seems to know i look down to the right constantly when i jump.

  • me 2 being away 4 2 long makes me sick but she loooks up 2 me like a leader

  • mhm.

but don't ever say i don't know my horse.

  • i'm trying to teach my horse to go back, give me her foot, turn around and stuff like that but does somebody know if its right that i give her a treat if she does it?

  • Hi there the parelli's actually recomend using incentives with some horsanalities {the left brain introvert) on the success series you will see linda using treats.

  • i do gets my horses spirt up love ya video

  • It's lost on most viewers that you completed these tasks in a Rope Hackamore - in PNHland basically a halter and lead tied as reins. Nice job. Looks like a fun Left Brain day.

  • It truly was a great day. thanks mad4mypony.

  • Okay - I sucks because I think it's not a PNH instructor's responsiblity to "make" someone wear a helmet as Spikeryder3213 says? Even Pat and Linda say wearing a helmet is our decision. If someone doesn't wear one because they feel peer pressured not to? that's just not savvy in any horse world - natural or normal. What does your relationship with your horse tell you to do?

    BTW-this video rocks!

  • Spike: Isn't it the rider's own responsibility to put on a helmet?

  • yes it was, thats why this lady regrets not wearing one and swore she will never ride without a helmet again, but even then she still punctured a lung andbroke ribs because the trainer didnt get on the horse and find out why he was acting up, if Spike ever starts to act up my instructor gets on and makes him knock it off, i can school him myself most of the time but when hes bad, hes REALLY BAD

  • they then took her to the barn while she was still knocked out. she had a concussion, a brocken collor bone, and 4 broken ribs, because instead of taking control of the situation the instructor did NOTHING!

  • also a friend of mine spent weeks in the hospital after attending a parelli clinic because the instructor didnt think to make her wear a helmet and she got bucked off, was unconsious, so they drove a truck into the arena, PICKED HER UP AND PUT HER IN THE BACK so that they could continue the clinic,

  • Ok i know that parelli works with some people. But just here me out. go to a parelli show and watch lindas seminar. parents, look at the message shes giving ur kids. shes teaching them to jump, bareback, with only a halter and leadrope to steer, over picknick tables, without a helmet!

  • I have been to several tour stops and 2 savvy conferences. Never once have I heard Linda encourage a child to jump bareback. Nor have I heard her tell an adult to do that. She encourages everyone to study the program. As your skills progress you learn to do more things. Studying the new horse behavior series and the success series helps prepare you for jumping bareback if you want to, or any other activity. Prior, proper preparation, prevents piss poor performance.

  • Hi ChorusXromance, like you i haven't heard linda recomend jumping bareback. the reason why i started jumping in my bareback pad was a}that my parelli insructor said to jump in the saddle as if i were bareback, and i figured how would i know what that should be like if i hadn't ever jumped bareback.

b} i wanted to as i had been following the programme and was now confident enough to actually *want* to jump bareback.

  • ok EO12345, bareback does help actually..it teachs u your position without the use of a saddle, builds leg muscle so u can sit in better, and it teaches u balance. and i love parelli

  • that's not horsemanship

  • omg u do like everythin in there!

  • Wow EO12345, get the hell off your high horse and stop sitting on the saddle horn. Everyone has a different way of doing something, your way is your way and your way alone. The rest of these people can do what the hell they want, just like you can. Stop trolling.

  • u need to learn how to jump and keep your arms still and down.

  • If she/he really is riding Natural Horsmanship, Why are the rains so short?

  • Oh, and another thing: QUIT FLAPPING YOUR ARMS! (I know Linda does this, but it's ridiculous.)

All that flapping is making your contact so rough and eratic that the poor horse can't relax her back or carry herself correctly. (Doesn't she feel tense? Stiff? Blocked? Jeez. It's YOUR fault.)

Those damn Parellis shpould be shot.

  • E012345 I know u teach a different way of riding but don't you feel stating that "the parelli's need to be shot" is a bit much?

Wouldn't it be better to focus on the positives and negatives of the different styles to allow people to come to their own opinions rather than making such comments.

Personally I am very happy with what the PNH programme but i wouldn't have half the respect i have for Pat and Linda if they went around naming other trainers and saying they should be shot.

  • umm... i just watched this again and i was wondering not that ur not doing good cause u really are! but is eque necessary in this class? because just some sugestions try keeping your chin up, elbows in, heels down, arms still, and back straight... oh also when weaving cones try staying close to them and steering more with your legs so that u dont need to make such big movements, please dont hate me (cries) i just wanted to tell u what i saw...

  • Sit up straight! Don't look down so much, it's putting your seat bones in exactly the wrong position. You're blocking the horse's motion, and all your body language says, "frighened.".

    Forget Parelli, and think FORWARD!

  • u need to learn how to jump girl!!

  • Yeah i know! I'm working on it and i think it has improved i've been doing alot of jumping with just a bareback pad and i feel thats helping.

  • Cool!. Bareback is so awesome, escpecially for jumping. Your videos are great!! You and your horse are awesome!

    Keep up the good work!!

  • Jumping bareback WON'T help. Shorten your stirrups, get your weight in your irons and OFF the horse's back. You want a solid, forward position that follows the horse's motion. You're getting left behind, and this punishes the weakest part of the horse's back because you smack her on landing.

And I know I sound like the world's biggest bitch. Actually I'm just a riding instructor who hates to see the Parellis teach horrible riding to nice kids.

  • sorry but i think that you need to think out of the box!!

Just because you have been told that there is only one way of rding doesnt mean that there is.

If you havent got anything better to do than spam up everyones videos that you dont like then you really are a sad person.

  • Thank you E012345 for your opinion we all have the right to have one. So far jumping bareback has helped both my balance and my confidence.

I'll continue working on my jumping and My Parelli natural horsemanship.

  • "I got this horse two years ago and she had only just been broken and was scared of her own shadow. I was also a complete novice as i had never had a horse before and i was 26yrs old."

    Dear god o_____o

  • lol nice vest, i'm sure it will come in handy, what with all the high speed craziness going on.

  • wow, ur gd!

  • We still have long way to go but what is good is the Parelli system which teachers the human how to develop the horse. I got this horse two years ago and she had only just been broken and was scared of her own shadow. I was also a complete novice as i had never had a horse before and i was 26yrs old. It is not that i am great but this programme is and it enable people like me to get such results.

    Thanks

    Louise

  • thank you

  • I am sorry but that warm up wasnt long enough and did you stretch the legs because you could of done your horse serious damage and would cost alot of money!!!!!!

  • I did a full warm up outside in the outside arena, just before coming in this "warm up" was more of a chance for the horse to get used to seeing the obstacles. I just wrote it as "warm up" so people watching could see it wasn't part of the actual competition. Thanks for posting.

  • hav u got a bridle on or is it just a rope round theneck?

    xxxxxxx

  • It is a parelli rope hackamore it has know bit - it is like a rope halter with reins.

  • kwl

  • that was reli good! xox x

  • Thank you.

  • your right, keep on showing how well it can be done,

  • hi sharry great job i am in maine an been doing horsemanship 4 5yrs,

I am so sick of regual horse show would love to see horsemanship on the show circit, wouldn, you about time i say

  • I think all of the current discaplines can and in some cases are being done with great horsemanship, i don't think we need to make a sport for horsemanship, i think once we get to a good enough standard we will be able to do any of the current equine sports with great horsemanship. just a thought.

  • can someone (WHO KNOWS FOR REAL) what a 'gaited' horse is? I don't know, I just do lazy walk, energetic walk, hyper trot (with my horse there is no slow trot) and blow your guts canter. (I swear, his canter may be smooth as anything, but he is FAST) lol

    SOMEONE PLEASE MESSAGE ME!

Btw, very nice video i like it. :)

  • Wow you did a GREAT job!!

  • Thank you we came 6th. but there was over 20 in the comp so i was well pleased.

  • I entered one of those competitions, too - they were really good! Nice vid :)

  • where did you do your comp to?

  • Very nice! Thanks for sharing. I;ve done PNH for about 2 years with my mare, too. We are near Newmarket. I;ve only don2 2 indoor TRECs. Would love to do a "real" one this spring.
