This was one of the first videos I saw of drum corps about 4 years ago now that really got me loving this activity (and Phantom Regiment). This piece still sends shivers down my spine, even after having been in the activity.
@richkidsrule777 - Lol, don't worry kid, I know what it takes to produce that sound. I think you just missed what I was really saying there. Try re-reading it with a little more humor (and an appreciation of the fairer sex). ;-)
Complete with the Phantomettes as "Rhine Maidens" :-D . . . ooops! Sorry! Wrong opera *chuckle!* (Just finished listening to the Met doing the Ring of the Nibelung last weekend :-) ) Phantom has my heart, forever!
I love Phantom...but SLOW DOWN!! That was way too fast! They could've milked that for SOOOO much more! It loses some of its impact at that speed I think.
Easily one of the most honorable, and amazing moments in DCI history. Congrats Cavies on a great win, but Phantom what an honorable thing to do. Doesnt mean you cant play ballz to the floor though. And thats just waht they did. Congrats on your win this year. I was there and when i heard 2nd place... man I swear on my life that I will never forget that moment. Never
I am sad that I was never able to try out for a drum corps. Time and finances were just never on my side. However, my senior year in high school I was able to go to a clinic hosted by Phantom and we got to play this with them. It was probably one of the best days of my life and I will never forget it! It was that day that I became a phan and I will be one for the rest of my life. Congrats to all the members this year for winning the gold!
i totally missinterpreted what you were talking about sorry...i thought u meant the corps as a whole. my bad i totally zoned out on that one. fuck id be motivated too lol
@ikshields and your an ass playing with that much power in control takes a whole summer of practice and working together. dod you even march with regiment you dont even know what it takes to sound that good
great to hear. If interested you may want to hear the British brass band arrangement done in the 1970s by Howard Snell Its recorded by the Fodens Band and is on on my favourites, Keep up the good work phantoms. Great Job!!!
they need to push themselves over that hump of being so close to the gold all year and coming up just short this year and just blow the house away and leave everyone speachless
by far better than bd last year, saw both live at mizzou and there was no question who should have won,
also at mizzou they booed the judges for putting scouts where they did
doyle, in case you haven't marched before, that part of getting close but never winning is all politics. There is a reason why only 3 corps have won since Star 93 (not including Phantom 96, which was kickin').
oh i know i have friends and teachers who have marched and will say at the begining of the year or midseason, "so and so corps wont win because of some bs politic reason"
but it would be nice if fans had some choice or maybe a fans favorite award kind of like they had a lil this year
yeah, the chops awards were cool, and it's no surprise that Crown won all of them. it would be difficult to get any sort of fan feedback for scoring since retreat happens right after the last corps goes on saturday night. politics in dci is something that really cant be helped, but i dont think there is a solution.
There was a certain time where the stadium had to be cleared out, thats why all the corps had to leave almost immediately after awards, just so BD would have enough time for their victory run, we were literally shewed out of the stadium...thats why The Cadets probably didnt play to BD.
If you want to talk about class, the Cadets have some of the most classy people in the drum corps activity, don't dog em until you know em
Phantom Regiment... Always a class act. How many other corps would play like this, unprompted, for the corps that beat them? Gorgeous sound, as always.
My band played this against an opposing band at a battle of the bands in Houston, and afterwards the crowd was silent. That's all I have to say. Kudos to Wagner for composing such a beautiful piece. Truly the cherry on top.
Elsa's Procession is always the icing on the cake, esp. as a farewell performance. It's so emotionally and powerfully moving! It also helps when you have the right corp to play it ;)! Well done guys!
That's my Phantom! Classy, always, and the lushest horn-sound in all of drum-corps! Pretty good sound quality, too, for amateur video, at least.
Incidentally, if any of you young people would like to see "where it all begain", "kschannen", a specialist in "old-school DCI", just posted what I think is the *original* "Elsa's" from '79. Check it out!
yea i've got to agree with 06metzp, i also auditioned with PR this season and did not make it. It was the most amazing thing to play this piece with 200+ brass players. I will definitely try out for them again next year. Good luck PR 07' On Air is gonna bring it home!
so incredible... more amazing than watching this, though, was actually playing it at the audition camp this fall (mello, didn't make it) with about 200 people in the hornline.
nice sounds in that group.

Dudes...
In this case, playing Elsa's Processional this perfectly, and with this much balance and power combined, ain't difficult at all.
Just look at who they're playing for!
That's what we in the music business call, ah, ... "motivation".
;-)

playin for cavies? didnt they beat cavies this past year so maybe the cavies should be motivated to try and stack up against this powerhouse of sound

SKfabs 3 years ago
in 2005 they added the first male characters into the guard for "An American in Paris".
in 2006, they wrote in more male guard parts for the roles of Faust, the devil, and all the other "demons".
if i recall, they are now co-ed.
Thunderation8 3 years ago
it used to be all female but they added their first male member in 05 after a fucking long time without one
