It was the cohesian and reliability of the French team that won them WC 98 and Euro 2000. Zidane was a cog, but he was no more important than Desailly, Thuram, Blanc.
2002 the foundation of the team had retired - Blanc, Desailly, Deschaumps. That was a great generation of defensive players and formed a great base for a team. After that generation retired they have never won anything again, even with Zidane, Henry, they just didn't have that spine behind them, as much mental as physical.

Ronaldinho wiped the floor with Zidane in his prime. Believe it or not, Ronaldinho's peak form was unmatched. Where was Zidane then huh? Yes, Ronaldinho was never able to maintain his form like Zidane but that doesn't mean that Ronaldinho was never the best in the world at one point. He was unstoppable when he was peaked. Zidane is conistent yes, but no matter how consistent he is, he will never match Ronaldinho when he was at his peak.

It was the cohesian and reliability of the French team that won them WC 98 and Euro 2000. Zidane was a cog, but he was no more important than Desailly, Thuram, Blanc.

2002 the foundation of the team had retired - Blanc, Desailly, Deschaumps. That was a great generation of defensive players and formed a great base for a team. After that generation retired they have never won anything again, even with Zidane, Henry, they just didn't have that spine behind them, as much mental as physical.

Did you know that Zidane had a passing percentage at 99 percent and barely made mistakes when passing untill late in his career when he started to fade at around 33. Maybe he was´nt engaged in many direct assists as a usual attacking midifielder but he was involved in almost every single goal scored as he always made the players work under him as if he was a general. Zidane was a PLAYMAKER, the true definition of a playmaker, the best ever.

Allthough he gave us much nice memories, he is quite overrated. No pressing on the ball by Man u, slow match rhythm, tricks and flicks which didnt really resulted in anything but to keep the ball (useless in attack). I can understand people have nostalgic feelings but Messi, Ronaldinho were better, more consistent, bigger impact (goals, assists,...). You aint gonna convince me. Nice to see Raul again.

Ronaldino and Messi are brilliant, I am not denying that but Zidane was a far more subtle and elegant player. Watch clips of him playing for Juventus, where I personally believe he was far better.

He beats defenders by vision, decisive passing, deceiving tricks but mostly when attackers were too enthusiastic coming at him. He was a rare breed indeed. But for me Messi is the best i have seen (hard to compare the two really). He only needs to confirm for Argentina now (still 23)

Ronaldinho wiped the floor with Zidane in his prime. Believe it or not, Ronaldinho's peak form was unmatched. Where was Zidane then huh? Yes, Ronaldinho was never able to maintain his form like Zidane but that doesn't mean that Ronaldinho was never the best in the world at one point. He was unstoppable when he was peaked. Zidane is conistent yes, but no matter how consistent he is, he will never match Ronaldinho when he was at his peak.

@Kalsdonkerr .platini,beckhbauer and ronaldo did not say that you are speaking crap.zidane didnt paly 17 eyars at the top, he only played 9 years a tht etop. the french league is shit. he moved to juventus in 96or97 so gie or take 9-1o years a the top, where he was the best player only in 2000-2002.thats also because ronaldo was unjured and was never the same.

Zidane is more like Xavi and Iniesta, but with more tricks an speed everything else. if you have a player like this in youre middfield you can get 100% off youre forward players. every team have 1 Barcelona=Xavi, Arsenal=Fabregas, Real Madrid = Ozil/Xabi, Chelsea= Lampard

@Lvn369 uhh dude, you obviously have no idea about soccer. its not all about scoring, the beauty of soccer is the passing, strength, vision, etc of players. zidane is probably the best player ever to play because of his amazing passing, strength and vision. zidane assisted two of those goals. he embarrassed man utd. how is he overrated if you could pass the ball to him and be guaranteed 99/100 times he wont lose it and do something spectacular?

@Droppingearz I am not saying he hasnt got that, i am saying he is overrated when people claiming he is better than Messi. There isnt a single skill Zidane has over Messi (yes also vision ,passing etc). Whoever claims this has nostalgic feelings and doesnt watch Messi on a regular basis. Ofcourse Zidane will be remembered for his World Cup exploits (had the team for it also)

@Lvn369 Zidane had a good national team? since when? look at 1998 he lead France to a victory against Brazil in the final! but in 02 when he was injured France got knocked out at the first stage! and when he played again at 06 (considering his age which was 34) he lead them to the final.. in 2010 what could france do without Zidane? nothing!

@Lvn369 Messi is a striker/winger, therefore he has to score a lot of goals...
Zidane is a centre midfielder, so its harder to score because you have to defend as well as attack...
Zidane was FIFA best player 3 times and 2nd in the year when he RETIRED from football.

zidane dragged a poor french team to the world cup final!! they were not the team the were in the 90's but he, as maradona did with argentina dragged a team that probably not made it there without him! messi hasn't done that! im pretty sure ronaldhino had alot of help from some star studded players!! zidane was one of the best! maradona was the best and messi could be one of the best! ronny doesn#.'t even come close!!!!
