  • what's a movie that this song has been in recently?

  • The older I get, the more I understand the point of this song.

  • such a great song! so damn catchy, but hey, it's Talking Heads!

  • david byrne kinda looks like a cross between steven colbert and tom cruise, but better

  • David Byrne is one weird nut.

  • Part of his charm my dear.;-)

  • talking heads best song!

  • I think its a toss up between this song, Burning Down the House, and She Was.

Those three songs are wicked awesome.

  • burning down the house is a pretty damn good one :]

  • I don't know what he's doing or talking about, but he's clearly a genius

  • There is water at the bottom of the ocean........ same as it ever was!!!!!

  • im back

  • Iconic video, simple but effective. Needless to say, fantastic song, Talking Heads best.

  • what a great song.back when mtv was the coolest thing on tv

  • All the choreography in this video -spasms included was done by Toni Basil who had a hit in the 80s with a single called Mickey.

The song itself is an all time classic and totally timeless

  • the dancing is amazing. It makes you feel really free!

  • Cool... David Byrnes aerobics! ;)

  • My life........excatly

  • mtv used to be the shit when this was released aaahhhhhhhh the memories as pinehead would say (I remember)

  • days of glory...now Mtv is just plain shit!!!

  • 1;05

    SPASIMS

  • dude this guy is a stoner lol

  • danielaai is correct. david byrne is extremely wacky. but his music is genius.

  • clearly, music made by thinking people for thinking people, but we can still feel it.... i get it now, it is not mine either...................from the review of: best of talking heads

  • I never understood this song for so many years but now I know, just like the song implies. It's about some guy getting all kinds of things in life throughout the years, but never realizing what he has and all these stuff is to enjoy once in a lifetime. What a great lyricist Byrne is.

  • still tickles me after all these years. incredible work, makes more sense after you've hit 40 actually. for parallel work see "rabbit in headlights" by unkle featuring thom yorke (they're both about enduring the waves and traffic collisions of life...shock over the passage of time versus out and out stubborn survival).

  • pfft...

  • i agree, love the song but the video is odd

  • like the song but you have to admit this is such a corney video

  • More campy than corny, I would say. Doesn't overdo the tacky 80s effects like other videos of that era did.

This ms grows on you after a bit.

  • This song says so much so briefly. Amazing narrative and drive to it!

  • best song ever, 5/5

  • Was hat der denn für Zuckungen??? lööööl

  • Talking Heads!

  • :53

  • "once in a life time"...augenblick (the blink of an eye)...the moment of existential awakening that flashes through your mind-soul...forcing its delerious disorientation upon you ("How did I get here?")...no denial of change, but acceptance of change as an unchanging cycle ("Same as it ever was")

  • look at those dance skills!!!!

  • soo good!!! love them

  • I was on a cave tour once and the guide started quietly singing the chorus to himself going through a drippy chamber - I said 'so THAT's what the song's about!'

  • Whats this song about?

  • How old are you??

  • dance skillz

  • Damn, Talking Heads, why you gotta be so good‽

  • Hey but thanks for that, I love that too!

  • Hi Chyinese19 thanks for the reply, but it wasn't a vocal remix, just the music x

  • same as it ever was... so true! change? yes we can? yeah right... same as it ever was... :-p

  • the best

  • Wow, remain in the light was a superb album - such a vision of the way things are now.

  • Remember this track well............a classic...........still shines throught the mediorcraty of todays semi skimmed valium.

  • Same as it ever was and that is: Brilliant! Cool Song and cool vid. Thanks Nefarious71 for the post! Much appreciated!

  • Love this tune! There was a dance remix of it made in the early 90's, does anyone know who it was by & the name of it? Please help as it's doin my head in!!

    Thanks x

  • Hey everybody, they are reuniting in Vancouver Canada for a show. What a wonderful city I live in.

  • Great song, great video with all its weirdness.

  • awesome song, but very strange video..

  • And you may ask yourself, how do I remove my own comments like "iwys" apparently did?

  • i would've liked this song, but that "w" movie ruined it

  • how can a fucken movie ruin a song u must be the dumbest mother f***r ever

  • Doesn't that mean you never liked the song, you just liked what it may have associated with before a movie paid off the label to use the song? (Yes, to use this song in the ad all they had to do was pay a fee to the label.)

  • Love the bass on this classic Vid lol!!

  • People should copy this guys moves when they score a goal in sport.

  • This is more than music. Its real art.

  • ahr8p That's PRECISELY right! It IS REAL art!

  • genius

  • okay on the beginning of the episode Duck on the show the grim adventures of billy and mandy they make a reference to this song haha watch it.

  • They just don't make 'em like they used to.

  • He looks like Andy Burnham! Lol.

  • SAME AS IT EVER WAS

  • What the hell

  • is he having a seizure?

  • yes

  • i find myself watching this video...at 3:30 in the morning...and i ask myself..why..this is not my beautiful computer..in this beautiful house..next to this beautiful dog....same as it ever was..

  • He's such a nerd that he's almost cool. Great song. I had asked myself why I watched this video and my answer was ....I like it!

  • David Byrne is one of the coolest guys on the planet. Fantastic songwriter. Learn.

  • full ACK!

  • Hellz yeah

  • *Didn't know the name of the song or who sang it

    My bad...

  • I heard this song on the radio and for a short time didn't know the name of the song or sang it. After I found out who did it, I downloaded it and now it's my favorite song! David Byrne rules!

  • existentialism:

and you may ask yourself, "well, how did i get here?"

and you may ask yourself, "am i right, or am i wrong?"

and you may say to yourself, "my god, what have i done?"!

  • love this video. Byrne is a God.

  • Love the transition at 0:17. I'm not entirely sure that qualifies as dancing but this is definitely one of the best music videos ever made. The lyrics are great too.

  • oh yes

  • First video I ever saw... and still the best TH song ever.

  • what the heck????!!! lmao

  • greatest talking heads vid ... ever!

  • He looks like Andy Burnham.

  • His lyrics are spot on. They speak of confusion, anxiety and discovery.

  • David Byrne can cut a rug. Same as it ever was...

  • only white folks can dance like this guy and actually not look stupid

  • nah, he still looks stupid, but it's great none the less!

  • .... that is one damn funny comment!!!

  • my comment? It's funny because it's true!

  • I think this video may well be the perfect fusion of music & video.

  • This song was used in W. Trailers.

  • Yes, it was. I was disappointed it wasn't used in the movie.

  • Bloody brilliant.

  • best music video ever.

  • what a wonderfully zany record

  • fuckfindingourslf and all thatbull shit it,s just a cool record

  • I LOVES THE TALKING HEADS!

  • that comment was so gay

  • We all eventually FIND ourselves and realize life is short, time goes fast, friends are good and music resonates with all of us...peace and love friends...

  • haha, this is why black people think we can't dance =P

nah, i love talking heads, and i love this song! =)

  • acid mash mmm

  • how does this guy know exactly what i am feeling? spooky

  • I love this song. Heard it on the radio going to school and now I'm addicted....

It also reminds me of The Great Gatsby for whatever reason....

  • dave's the coolest man ever

  • the theme (or at least my interpretation) of the song is sort of similar to the movie american beauty...it's about a person (or persons) who haven't realized how plain their life is until now, and how horrible it is.

  • I disagree, actually I consider it to be the opposite. The movie Family Man actually used this song on their sound track, and if you watch the movie and listen to the song you find a direct correlation, and that is that the simplest things in life, like family and home, instead of money and power. A reawakening of your life and how much its worth. You should watch that movie it will help you get the song, or atleast what point I think their trying to make.

  • good idea

your interpretation is actually sounds good too

  • BRATZPORNXXX

You will never have the intellectual capacity to understand this song

    NOW TROT ON DEAR XX

  • Gee, i wonder if it's the same as it ever was. :p

  • ermmm why don't you learn how to use the English language ..seems like you don't have a life ...lowlife ...your opinion is not worth anything as you present yourself as simply a lowlife ....YOU get a life ! ..grow up.

  • Here's a bit of advice, Shut up.

  • I'm leaving for Toledo to find myself.

  • Huge fan since i was 10 back in 1978. My first concert was Talking Heads a few years later and it was AWESOME! They put on such a great show. They met and started in my state RI while attending RISD college in the early 70's. Not many bands can say they sold out Stadiums for multiple nights in a row but Talking Heads can! true Artists!

  • hahahahahahahahahahahaha

  • HOW DID I GET HERE!!

  • i love this song so much

  • I can honestly say I shared a cigarette with David Byrne after his concert at the Enmore theatre in Sydney in 2006 - and he is the man - he is cooler than cool. I've been listening to the Heads since I was 14. Music doesn't get better than this.

  • no one cares

  • great band great song ya gotta love those dances haha x P

  • saw david byrne on oct. 19, 2008 at the uptown theatre in kansas city, and it fucking rocked, then in his first encore he pulled out this massive copper plated guitar and the crowd errupted when he jammed out this tune, one of the best shows i have ever seen.

  • I have a ticket to see him in Ireland in April. My brother has seen David Byrne lots of times. This time I'll be there.

  • cud you give me some info of wen and were he is performig in ireland? would be much appreaciated. and bdw thanks david for inspirering thom yorke.

  • GOD!!!! id like to take this oppatunity to personally THANK YOU for allowing me to be in my teens early 20s in the 80s and experiance them best decade in human history shame then i didnt realise just how formative those years were but thank you thank you very much

TRULY ONCE IN A LIFETIME the music now really is THE SAME AS IT EVER WAS just AWESOME

  • you're welcome. Too bad you missed the 60's and 70s, as they were pretty groovy, and the 20s, I don't even know where to begin about that crazy decade. However, 2012 will be your last year to enjoy before I destroy the world.

  • talking heads rock!!!

  • one word for this song. AWESOME

  • This is one of the coolest fuckin vids ever! Love TH!

  • hahahahha i do ask myself...lol

  • because of his thick rimmed glasses

  • Cult classic.

  • Jason sir, get some counselling.....

  • After the blue screen in the beginning, he looks like he's doing the dance Frank does in that episode of Always sunny in Philadelphia.
