 I just saw Tyne Daly in this last night. Absolutely sublime. I wish I'd been able to see Patti in it though. I'm sure she was a force to be reckoned with as Callas!

This couldn't be from 1995. The play opened in Nov. 95, and Caldwell was with it for more than a few months before Lupone replaced her.

I saw this with LuPone, and she gave the best live acting performance I've ever seen.

I have to say, in the clip, she seems kind of campy and over-the-top. But in person, onstage, where an actor has to exaggerate to reach the people in the back, it came across completely differently. Her performance was extremely realistic, nuanced, and complex.
