I remember putting this when I split from my first wife and life was shit,22 not sure what to do and this song made me get of my arse thanks mr coverdale you saved my soul
I said it before and will say it forever, until 1984 Coverdale was the best rock singer ever. He had it all. After that.... well let's say that age has not been as kind on him as it has been on Paul Rodgers, Glenn Hughes or the mightly Alex Ligertwood. For me, his operation in the mid-80's dramatically changed his voice and he "lost" something along the way. The bluesiness was gone. He sang higher and in a more "metallic" way. To me, his voice from 1973-1982, even until 1984, was simplytop
@LosKarizma I agree with you mostly, his pre 86 ish voice was great but i think his throat opp gave him a higher range which i think was good. Personally i prefer the pre-op voice. I do think though, that his voice deterioration is down to too many live shows where he shouts too much. He can still sing as well as ever, although he doesn't have the power any more and his range is now questionable. If only he would sing and not scream.

Democracy is a wonderful gift we have been given, but believe me, idiocy is NOT. Now go away and give your ears a ruddy good syringe. David Coverdale IS the present God sent to save our Rock and Roll dreams. Fact.
bfpsafari ... I am appalled by your cutting words. How dare you come here onto this worldwide forum and talk such utter , indescribable rubbish ?. YOU may not be grown up enough to love Mr Coverdale's vocal ability but do NOT judge anyone else by your silly standards.
Coverdale WAS the best singer for years (together with Gillan). Both are far from that in 2011, but Gillan are still singing well, but Coverdale....forget it. If he just started to so sing blues/rock with to RIGHT band, he could still do a world class job. As it's now he is a joke and should listen to records 20 years ago, and start from thre. Forget this US attitude.
@bfpsafari gillan is still singing well ? Oh please.. he hasnt sung well for ages. Coverdale is much better, especially today. Gilan can sing well n his high register, and that was what made him special. Coverdale can still sing like a God in lower and mid-range.
one of the most best singers ever,my biggest idols are FM and steve perry, but david has low, high and middle great notes really singer who can teach you all...awesome
@Vamphetamine How u figure that one out ?..Blindman was on Coverdales solo album in 1977 and Mr.Big was a track on Fire and Water released in 1970 : )

BLINDMAN (Coverdale) I was dreaming of the past Why do good times never last? Help me Jesus, show the way I can't hold on another day. I was hungry, feeling low, Just couldn't make out which way to go, Chasing rainbows That have no end, The road is long without a friend ........

Totally agree with previous comment it is good to hear someone else notice it ! lower range he is great but high stuff is to much now shame but time stands still for no one !!
When I listen to DC from 1974 until 1984 I get goose bumps. He was absolutely brilliant. His voice was amazing. After that, it changed and today he is only the shadow of what he used to be. I saw him live last November and he was not good at all. He can still do it in the lower range but his voice is shot in the upper register. Still, until 1984 he was superb.
of course....his voice was different till 85 or 86(i'm not shure).....he had surgery, cause he had infection, and now he is almost 60 years old.....what do you want.we all want old good david with great voice but time is passing :(
@THESMILEY811 I felt dave lost it a bit during the 87 period. however watching him on you tube touring last year hes seems to have got it back a bit .not as good as when his voice was like chocolate but not bad .
@THESMILEY811 Yes Coverdale had an infection, but as you can see he's voice has changed now, but then was always good and as i know he did not hat any surgery that he's voice healed the old fashion way !!! DC the one of the best singer in the hole world and one my favorite!!! Love all thing whit DC :)))
@SvAleRiRb i love him too,he's one of my favourit singers,no doubt 'bout that....and surgery....that is how i understood his answer in one interview back in '86 on japanesse or chinesse tv,not sure :)
David Coverdale is a fantastic singer.Definetly my favourite. And this song is also fantastic, but i better like the 1980 version of this song, recorded on a album Ready An' Willin'
Geshtasb - - thank you. Some of these coverdale fans just dont hear things the way I do. When Glenn lets out a scream....the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. Then Glenn can turn things around and sing with so much feeling....versatility....thats Glenn...the best singer around today.

If Coverdale only kept on singing in this style I would respect him as a great singer.
Glenn Hughes BLOWS him away...and David knows it, deep in his heart. No man can sing with the power and feeling that Glen Hughes has...."the white stevie Wonder".
Coverdale used to be my favourite singer but he has totally lost his flame...whereas Glenn Hughes is prolific with various projects, he has rejuvenated and even amazingly improved troughout all these years..
David has such a passion/emotion for the blues. I think he is the best blues rock singer and Glenn the best funk rock vocalist.
If coverdale sticks to "this type of blues" he gets criticized for not taking any chances. If he tries to do something else, the fans that he had before criticize him for that. Even though I prefer old wsnake, progression must occur. It is very presumptuous of people to want it all to stay in the same way. That being said, David and Glenn are my favourite vocalists.
You are right Wolfatnight...many songs from Deep Purple mk 3 sounded like Free..David Coverdale next venture, solo records as well so Whitesnake he keeps influenced by Free and Bad Co..thats for is wonderful because Free and Bad Co are two best fine example form 70's good rock..
@AAA1969 comment: this version here has a bad sound qualtiy, and its very different from the album version, but THE WAY HE SINGS IT here, is quiet fanatstic. the rest is not that great, i agree.
That's because he used to rerecord his own stuff. This is from Northwinds - he rerecorded it for Come and Get It which is probably where you heard it. Here I Go Again and Fool For Your Lovin' are other songs he put out twice. I thought he'd dropped that stuff, but then brought out the live album with the Burn/Stormbringer medley on it. Don't get me wrong - I think he's a great singer, but I can see why Robert Plant called him " David Coverversion"!
This is actually from David Coverdale - Whitesnake, his first solo album. He re-recorded it for the Ready an' Willing album. Still a great track. Coverdale was notorious for covering his own songs. Crying In The Rain, Here I Go Again, Fool For Your Loving, etc, all got the revamped treatment. I guess he thought his songs werent good enough the first time around.
