thank you . u have a very hard task ahead .. i kid u not .. u make it look easy .. but i am old ,and been tryin all me life , but i aint musical , so god bless ..
@privettricker - Yeah. Like at the Hyde Park concert after Jones died. That was really slow, wasn't it. And he Keith played it differently on that Get Yer Ya Yas album - more like Hyde Park version where the intro was way different.
I don't suppose Brian was involved at all on this cut - probably off noodling in the corner which as legend has it, he was going alot of around this time. As any fan knows though, his slide work was still highlighted on this album.
@6pointnite On one song...No Expectations. Other than that this entire album is all Keith. Brian fucked around with some Sitar, Mellotron, Harmonica, and other assorted percussion, but yeah this album is all Keith from a guitar perspective. Brian had allegedly "become bored" with the guitar by then. I'm glad Keith banged his girlfriend, Brian deserved it for pissing away all his incredible talent.
@wzaxx Plays it like this on the album. Did it in standard tuning for the '69 tour, but no idea what he's done since then. I doubt he uses open D at all these days.
@4runner39 I think you're right. One of the few (only?) times he did it onstage that way. By the time of the American tour a few months later, he was definitely in standard tuning -- and they slowed it down to a dirge.
@privettricker really wish he would've used that tuning onstage more..it probably was hard to keep intact though - especially being wasted all the time!!
Awesome tone, how bout some Shattered studio version & '78 live with Keef in his phaser king days ...

This song (to me) is at its best when played in the original tempo, as here. When they slow it down it's not near as effective.

@kolbpilot Absolutely agreed.

@kolbpilot I agree as well. One of my favorite Stones songs, but the Ya Yas version sucks because its way too slow, loses the groove and the menace.

@privettricker I think Keith used the DADF#AD tuning at the Hyde park show in '69,really sounds like it

Great, thanks. This is right on, live standard-tuning versions never sound right, missing that low-D chunk on the 1st D chord in every line.

Yeah ...and the atonal harmonics.
This dude has got it nice under control.
Although..."and so on"...I'd liked to have seen him doing that dramatic ending cacophony.
