  • I am not impressed with your knots. Your slip knot could easily unwind and the tarp loosen! I would expect a true survivalist to know better! I was a boy scout and learned more about survival than this!

  • But your not in Canada are you, your a yokel cider drinker from somerset so you don't need all that camouflage stuff, now do you. Your camping so grow up and stop playing at war games but you could be doing it as your there illegally and don't want the land owner to find you, if so your a very naughty boy.

  • google can birds see in colour, they don't see what we see but then we don't see in colour the brain makes the colours for us, like we think we see a blue sky but we don't..Here people do still hunt with shot guns here for game.the magna charta ( 1215 ) did give us the right to bear arms but over the years these rights have been taken away from us. this is fun jesting with each each other, you take care wear something bright.

  • what's with this camouflage clothes and tarps, birds and animals are colour blind seeing your in a place were people are likely to be hunting would it not be better to wear clothes were one may be seen ( not shot ) it's not as your in an war zone

  • @notinfrimstime

well i guess if you cant identify what you're shooting at you shouldnt be the one pulling the trigger in the first place, also most birds have better eyesight than we do and see in colour & further than we do, its common sense, if you go camping in a place thats known for hunting you should wear the proper colours, although most places in the uk are now excluded from hunting as far as i know... ofcorse if you're in canada or somewhere thats got bears take a ******* gun :)

  • Nice demo

    Check my channal stusf12

  • hope it doesnt rain, he set up camp over a depression in the ground, it would be a mud pit

  • oh and we all just happen to have that in the forest

  • We'll be covering the subject of ass, yes everyone needs a little ass to survive in the wilderness.

  • Didn't learn all that much.

  • lol, you dont need the gide line's that long

  • não tem noção sequer de escotismo, olha o tanto de corda que o cara usa meu, ...

fraco, sinto muito, estritamente comercial ao que parece

  • This guy is way better than Bear Grylls!

  • i use a hootchie :)

  • i thought this was going to be all made from what you find in the woods

  • Good videos, very professional. I enjoyed the comment on DPM making the basha 'Invisible in woodland'. Not to correct you as such but the purpose of DPM is in the name. 'Disruptive Pattern Material' its job is to break up the shape and outline of a person or structure so that it appears less obvious. It isn't as effective when close but from a distance DPM is a very effective camouflage pattern. Other than that, very good job very professional and I hope to see many more.

  • fantastic videos, thanks for help

    harry (from austria)

  • what song is this. i like it.

  • @mintystale92 nvm. my bad. i see it now.

  • personnally for a ridgeline I use a trucker's hitch, look it up, it is fairly easy to set up and you can even sit on it

  • Why do british people always call Z "zed"?

  • @Vyppaaa11 This may be because of the way One was taught to say ones Alphabet, but there are many different ways,(Zee,Zed and for those of us whom operate Radios in a professional capacity Z = Zulu). I hope this answers your question.

  • @576ito1080p Well my question was why are british people tghe only english speaking country that I am aware of that says it that way. I know that several other english speaking countries say zee.

  • @Vyppaaa11 well its the old addedge of "I say Tom-arr-toe you say Tom-aie-toe" does it really matter, you could add why do the Canadians say "Aboot " instead of About.

  • @576ito1080p I see what you are saying but alot of canadians say bout not aboot. It is useually the "canadian rednecks" that say aboot.

  • @Vyppaaa11 no man not at all... im as redneck canadian as you can get and i aint ever heard no one say aboot in my life

  • NO, Don't use guy lines on a basha, always use bungees, 'cause of wind, If you use rope or lines they won't stretch and ride with the wind, your basha will be whipping up cracking all night keeping you awake, possibly damaging the basha, also never fix through the eyelets, they will rip out, there's webbing bands stitched in to the material they are what you should fix to. Also to stretch out the basha you can use rolling hitches or simply run longer lines back to where you tied up to the tree

  • WOH!! what was that knot you did on that basha line?

That's just going to drop you on the floor !!

Should have put a double rolling hitch in it or something, Or if you put a loop like a truckers hitch in the line you can pull it tight....

  • This is gold for me ^^

  • not much of bush crafting involved indeed :) handy to know nevertheless!

  • i thought he was gonna make it like outta grass and all

like if u get lost like hell ur gonna be carrying all this :l

  • is that close to were they shot LOTR?

  • ROFL, look at these posts! Why do self thought rambo's watch a vid on how to make a shelter if they already know how?

I guess you are supposed to make a shelter out of the leaves you wipe your ass with eh?

  • where can I buy one of those military shelter top/basher's at? Any help is appreciated. Thx.

  • @whoreallygivesacrap Army surplus shops, there's a few of them on the net. including on ebay.

  • In the colder months you want to keep the hammock as low to the ground as possible to prevent as much air flow as possible. Another great idea I have tried instead of the thermarest is roll up 3 large industrial garbage bags and pack it in with your other gear. When its time to set it up fill the bags with dead brush and set them up as a matress in the hammock. It kept me warmer than a thermarest and took up way less space in my pack.

  • completely invisible, bullshit

  • Lear some knots. But for the Knot challenged it is okay.

    Cheers

  • My experience is, hammocks leave a lot of air flow underneath. If you don't have some wool blankets or a heavy sleeping bag, even in summer, prepare to get cold.

  • Very cool. This would not be my preferred method but if you want to go ultra-light and you are through camping and just need a place to sleep and stay dry under tree canopy it would be very cool indeed.

  • @jkeys251 don't say cool it means constipated over weighted out of style loser

  • this is not bushcraft

  • WTF do you mean "This is not Bushcraft" What else would you call it? The Guy is demonstrating how to rig up a shelter in the woods.... That is definately Bushcraft.... I'm sure a mouth breathing Internet commando like you could do a much better job.

  • no bushcraft is to use stuff around like the BUSH PEOPLE not going to walmart geting a tent and a side sleeper and b4 u jude me DONT cuz u dont know shit about me

  • which model is his hammock?

  • this man is lying. Side sleepers will be in hell.

  • great vid i now use the prusic knot on my tarp but 4 my hammock i use a carabener modification ( Cheers Pablo)

  • what does it mean AZ???

  • From A to Z. In other words hes trying to cover everything you need to know about bushcraft

  • a-z all the alphobet from a all the way to z

  • 4:57 bad idea. the ground sucks heat like hell, if it's a bit cold your body will lose a lot of temperature

  • Oh brother I love it, keep it coming.

  • that's what she said.

  • I can't sleep facing upwards... =/

  • in a dd hammock if you lie diagonaly you can sleep on your side

  • it seems 15 pounds to me..

  • how much is a hammock like that one?

  • 15 to 25 including p n p on ebay

  • There is one model on Ebay which has good reviews, it comes with it;s own Netting, which would be a must-have for me.

    it's around 30 bucks, it's called.

    Moskito Traveller Hammock

  • It is a prusik knot.

  • Hi, can you please let me know what the name of the knot /clip used by climbers that you mentioned. You use it on the video to show how to tighten up the line on ridge of basha. Many thanks.

  • he says what it is prussic knot very handy knot

  • ummmm im 290lbs so will i break the hamock ?? or are they really strong

  • i wouldnt worry they can hold about 340lb most i had a problem with being pretty tall over 6ft 3 :P and i got one ot fit for under 15 pounds

  • well im 6'4" so i got that problem too

what brand was it and where did you get it

  • i got mine on ebay for under 15 pounds with delivery next day at that go onto ebay and type in XL buxhcraft hamoch i will send u the link in a private message

  • 15 pounds of what?

  • 15 pounds british money :)

  • you should be ok in a DD hammock. they're used by the army too so they can hold a lot of weight. thats why i got one...

  • this isnt a show about what to do in a plane crash, its about going camping or prepared hikes into the wilderness.

  • well this is not what i expected all he is doing is showing us how to make a shelter that already made. good show tho

  • Yh but its how to set it up correctly

  • to stay warm put hot water in a water bottle and sleep with it in the hammock.

  • holy shit i was in my apt building and the fire alarm went off as i was watching this.

  • And?

  • Very good series. Though I'm only 17 I've been educating myself as much as possible to prepare for whatever the future holds. I am well aware that the typical American lifestyle will be completely nonexistent in the next few years. Thanks for the survival tips. :)

  • u me 2012 right

  • add me to the list :D

  • (speedxk1)

im actually making a group i have a few people if you want to come you can, i mean really im serious.

  • Grimbo is a big-headed twat!

  • I want a British army basha tarp so bad but they are impossible to find here in the States. Ive looked in every surplus shop and they only have the US army tarps or the cheap chinese ones and they're not as good. They have the US Army ponchos but they're not the same either. The basha look tough as nails. Only the best for Her Majesty's army I guess.

  • ebay it m8 or just order from uk lol

  • yeah i got mine from ebay, well worth the money

  • cut myself a slice of toast!

  • this guy kind of makes me wanna get in a plane and crash it who the hell knows where and just survive

  • ahaha just go hiking lol

  • @wuzup476...(customs) "so why are you making this trip?" "i want the plane to crash" ....ow well just..good luck with the security dogs

  • @wuzup476 i know right

  • @wuzup476 what about ray mears

  • @wuzup476 me to wona go on a flyt wit me?..lol:D

  • @wuzup476 TRU DAT!! or just go to some random forest and bring camping/survival gear

  • @wuzup476 yaknow.. or you could camp O_O

  • AWESOME AND EASY,FAST!!

  • so if i'm on a day hike and get lost and have to spend the night,i'm just going to pull a tarp,a shit load of rope and a hammock out of my ass?

  • the both pack up pretty small and weigh hardly anything.

  • I know, I'm just jokeing. I have a small nylon hammock too and they're really small and weigh almost nothing. I love mine.

  • It's a very good idea to be prepped for that. A day hike can turn into a 3 week wait at the bottom of a cliff. Many German tourists die in the hills around here.

  • First thing to take out of your ass is your head.

  • wow take it easy loki1066. who pissed in your cherios?

  • lol who pissed in your cherios!!

  • yeah man there really good you caan set them up in all manners of ways for all weathers iam in scotland and with our weather you jsut don,t know what to expect next and this simple bit of kit has kept me dry and out of the wind on a number of ocasions in the words of andy they truly are a versitle bit of kit and a perfect invest ment for the budding bushcrafter ior hiker looking to lighten there laod a bit

  • hiya karstarla if your in the uk man use a british army issue basha exactly the same as the 1 in this vid from a-z they are about 30 pounds roughly although if you look on ebay you will prob get 1 for around 15-25

  • thats the type i have

  • KARStaria check out greenmanbushcarft its a really good web site with many different types of tarps

  • i agree with karstarl could any one help plz?

  • There are so many tarps out there at many prices, I'm new to this and could really use some advice on which tarp I should by. I dont want to be an uneducated buyer here, the prices are telling me they could be made at varrying strengths or materials, can anyone tell me what is the most durable tarp for bushcrafting, something I'll get many uses from.

    I'd sure appreciate it

  • Really depends on your use - hammock, pairs, solo?

Tarps can be made from anything ranging from heavy and ultra durable canvas or light weight silnylon.

  • yeah this is true nicky

also i have just noticed my range of typing errors the excuse for this is (pub)

  • hello i was just wondering were abouts are you camping there please get back to me as soon as possible as i am going bushcrafting soon

  • Gower.

  • i prefer a net hammock so i can piss straight through it on small animals that pass under me at night, i especially like pissing on hedgehogs, the prickly little bastards,....... g,day

  • hmm i see. do you think it would be ok in a british woodland area just to put a tarp up. then a therm-a-rest mat. then a woodlore sleeping bag.

  • When your in a hammock the air can circulate around you and chill you from all sides. That is heat lost from convection. When you lay right on the ground heat lose is from conduction. In both instances you'll need to insulate yourself from the heat loss medium. A foam pad and/or some natural bedding material and a good sleeping bag on the gound and you'll stay warmer. In a hammock you'll need to block the wind really well with your tarp and natural barriers.

  • a really disagree who actually caries all of these things

  • this guy tends to think a little too civilized for my tastes.. This entire video is about one among dozens of different woods shelters.

  • It's aimed at backpackers rather than survivalists

  • hi !

great video. just found this on my search. which kind of hammock is that ?

    thanks for help

  • WTH- too civilised... would you like a description on how to sleep in a gutter.

  • hi

wat type of rope is it

  • idk

  • I would have said it was 5mm polypropylene general purpose ultilty rope but its the wrong colour...Utilty rope comes in Drab Olive colour, same as that small cord he used for the prussick knots but his "ridge line" rope is a much brighter green.

  • i dont know what he uses but i like 550 para cord, alot of survivalist use it. Its the rope that is used to attach a parachute to a persons harness

  • What size/type of cord did Andrew use to tie the Prussick knots to the ridge line?

    1mm Comms cord?

  • and this requires a how to video?

  • hootchies/bashas are very useful with hammocks, you lose less heat the higher up up are into the triangle of the nylon / waterproof tarp. they also take less room in a rucksack and are ligther then carrying around a tent with poles and picks. very good shelters.

  • i agree with trick. this isnt bushcraft. you could do this garbage in your living room. i usually appreciate this guys video but this is shameful. like an mma fighter teaching tae bo.

  • So what is bushcraft...

This is bushcraft, bush craft is what the name suggests craft done in the bush. I think you are confusing this with survival (bear grylls). tehere are many kinds of bushcraft - the kind of person who builds shelters, people who use tarps or anyone who enjoys the outdoors.

  • why cant he just juse a tent? thats just stupid. I live as far north in norway as you can get. I would freez do death in the winter and be eaten a live by moskitos in the summer.. and we have no trees her.. :/

  • Then I guess a tent would suit your individual needs (don't be rude, have an open mind). As far as living in an area that does have them, staying off the ground is a benefit; the load is lighter provided you have warm clothing in exchange of an insulated sleeping bag.

  • those who practice bushcraft generally do so because they dont want to use items like tents. if you educate yourself you will find that there are many shelters that keep you quite warm. you should stick to KOA campgrounds.

  • If I educate myself? Let's say I don't know anything about shelters. Give me a small list of good "shelters" that will keep me "warm". KOA campgrounds are for city slickers who think they are camping.

  • debris huts, any variety of in-ground shelters, and heavy thatched lean-to with a raied bed and a fire wall will keep you alive, just to name a few, and thats why i mentioned koa

  • raised*

  • Taht was a Prussic knot for those that did not managed to hear him properly.

  • Another superb video as always!

  • i love these vids. thanks man these are usefull, by the way ever thought about doing a series up in the breacons?. write back plz

  • If we can fnd funds we intend to do another series and brecons will be a possibility

  • invisible basha shelter?!

lets face it - if you were really teaching bushcraft what are you doing teaching the use of camping equipment?

I thought Ray Mears was pants... then I saw this guy.

    Sorry Ray, you're alright mate.

  • tnick2 i think you might be confusing bush craft with savival skills. this is part of bush craft.. ''if your roughing it your doing it wrong''

  • Ugh, because your equipment (in conjunction to your knowledge of its usefulness) is integral to how well you survive in the bush?

  • it seems like a good quick shelter, but it has no walls or bedding to keep you warm should the temperature drop. in the case of cold rain, hypothermia seems a real possibility. i mean wind could blow right through that shelter, same goes for wildlife. i think it would probably have been better to set it up on the ground.

  • Wrong! Cold air sinks so being at ground level is the coldest possible place to be!Being up away from the cold air, as you are in a hammock, is much warmer. When the Army use Basha's the ridge line is usually quite low down (About 3 feet maximum height)to aid with low visibilty in woodland, and the ridge is supported by adjustable height

"basha poles", either one on each end or just one pole can be used to support one end.

can only blow in from one end.

  • so your telling me its warmer to set up a tarp in a tent pattern with open sides, and sleep in a hammock totally exposed to the wind and cold, than to lay down some natural bedding in a fully enclosed shelter.

    im pretty sure, your wrong.

  • You'll probably lose a lot more warmth to the ground when sleeping in a tent than you will to air in a hammock.

  • bear grylls is rocks

  • survivor308

    ur stupid

u cant compare this guy to bear grylls...bear only uses a knife and a flint..lol this guy brought all this crap to the site

  • I wonder if any of these survival guys react badly to poison ivy.....

  • This guy rocks. Bear Grilles is a fraud!!

  • 10 years of climbing and bushcraft and I'd never thought of using prussiks on the ridge line of a basha. Really is a hobby where you never stop learning.

    Congrats on another great vid!

  • Great vid as usual. Met Andrew at BCUK meet. Great instructor, nice guy. Same knots and hammock as I use. Keep it simple springs to mind. Well done to you both.

Regards Pablo (prmaklpboo for my vids)
