  • Most incredible rendition I have ever heard. the emotion is just so raw.

  • Im gonna go by what brother JT said in one of his videos about you - "your like a big brother to me man in music...iv learned so much of this cat :) Thank You lord - thank you Jamal :)

    -vikesh

  • who the hell would dislike this??? ignorant trash!

  • Doc!!!! What VST are you using? That is tooooooo sick!!!

  • so cute oh yeah good playin 2

  • If i tried using those chords, they'd look at me like I was on crack or something. I could never get away with playing like that

  • Rated "P" for Phat, rated "C" for CRAZY, Rated "S" for Sick!

  • @luchu18 roger that!!!

  • I like this..it may take me a while to get it..but ima get it. Hope to do that track with you one day still. -Kendra J.

  • @TheyCallMeBabygirl Tracks are coming :)

  • hahaha...when i just listened to the start...i was like...how much can one person be gifted?I am so amazed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It just makes me laugh...this is too much.

  • those tritones started to take me into my song TOTAL PRAISE......

  • That sound you're using a sampler, by chance is the ART Grand Virtual Piano Standalone? Very good this sampler ... I got him .. heheh

    Hug God bless you

  • wow!! this is soo raww! i need to learn how to play like that.

btw, you have an amazing keyboard. it sounds like an actual grand piano...

  • this is nice i wish u could make a tutorial it in the key of c

  • @Treezycane24 I hope you learn all of your keys one day if you haven't already

    :-)

(P.S. That was meant in all light-heartedness- No hating or offense intended.)

  • bro i love how u play your bless you know i get call to play the piano in a lot of churches but i want to learn more so where can i get your dvd

  • @JAZZ458 Yea go to my channel page and click on the banner. It will take you to the DVDs.

  • @GospelMusicians My man, do you ship anywhere? Like I'm in South Africa, & I NEED your DVDs, like I NEED THEM BAD...lol God Bless!

  • @FELO88ROY You are missing the whole point. This is an example of an instructional DVD. I went OVERBOARD on purpose to demonstrate the tritone. If you listen to the very end, I say: "Now let's play it the regular way." If you got the whole DVD you would understand that it's an example to show how to put the tritones, but of course I would never plaly it like that in service. Take the PIECES you need then keep it simple!

  • @GospelMusicians I totally understand but some congregations love to hear it the way u played it keep going forth

  • @FELO88ROY i've been watchin and following his lessons, and he is big on flowing with the spirit and not taking away . but adding to the overall ministry. I would assume the same thing off of just one. but don't judge a thing before it's time, these are some of the best I've found on the net. very few actually know what they are doing. most just show. peace and blessings

  • @FELO88ROY than dont play them, if that is how you feel and stop critizising until I see a sample of your instructtiona cd

  • What a blessing, a talented and gifted young man that is willing to share and teach the up and coming! I like this dude. Besides, I always sing this song in Aflat or G when I am horse - but I think he made me sound good while I was sitting here singing lol!

  • @EvangelistHobbs

    You're a horse...

  • This dude is awesome!

  • Play boy play..................As long as it's for God's greater good then play BOY PLAY!!!

  • not really a fan a fan of this type of playin. not sayin it doesnt take skill , he is very talented. he just WAY overcomplicated an otherwise beautiful song. if he played that in a sanctuary, no one (except other musicians maybe) would've even been able to recognize it. just my humble opinion. comments are very welcome...

  • I love that humble spirit.....Willing to share what God has blessed u with. U r my idol dude. God Bless

  • @getmeacheezecakeplz Thanks so much man :)! I really appreciate that....How long have you been playing?

  • I started classic piano lessons at age 6/7. Im 13 now and im playing 4 a Gospel choir, my Church, and my school in the Bahamas. Guys at skool keep beggin me 4 lessons that I learned from u.

  • pure phatness

  • great bro .but i am from nigeria ow can i get this video?

  • Beast!!!

  • oooo he is cute and knows how to play

  • wickedddddddddddddddddddddddddd

  • you could tell the holy ghost was in the room....you could hear him breathing.....eh....eh hahahahaha! nice!

  • 1:27-1:38 OMG!!!

  • you know you playin some fat chords when you start doing the shoulder lean

  • What is that software he uses to make these that's SMOKING???

  • woaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaw....its like ....idk

  • Hi Men

How you think the song leader will follow this sort of piano accompaniment at church? How about you play and sing at the same time see the congregation will follow you

  • As said before, this is just an overexaggerated example on how to use the Tritones. Of course I would not play it like this all the way. The purpose of the ENTIRE DVD is to show Tritone substitutions, so I was merely showing how you can perform different Tritone substitutions. If you listen to the end of the video you hear me say, OK Let's play it the regular way!!!

  • haha if i could play like this i would always play it this way. probably why i can't.

  • GOD WILL SMITE YOU JAMAL!!!

sike naw im playing ur really good man

thanx to god alimgty bro keeo it up and STAY HUMBLE BROTHER!!!

  • THIS DUDE IS JUST.... SICK!!!!! lol

  • he was just playing the song trying to show people different ways to use tritones througout the song.....he was showing ppl different tri tones throughout...cmon ppl he is sharp.....not too many ppl can use tritones anyway so just stop hating,.....you did ya thang mayne

  • yow very nice...

  • i also agree that the comment about a poor rendtion can't be from a good musician. I beleive any good gospel musician will have plenty of ways to play the same song. Whether you personally like this go'round of the song or not, you have to truly respect the skill and creativity.

  • Love it!!!

  • the person who said this was a poor terrible rendition either dont know music or is jus hatin cos they cant do that, if they were a good musician they would have encouraged you.

  • Do you actually do any global tours?

  • my boy Jamal is just awesome as usual, remain bless, JT

  • jamal got the funniest faces I ever seen. .

2:09 LOL!!!!!! i wonder if he practices that. much love

    SANT (S. FLo)

  • I luv D flat

  • (con't) I forced myself, mistakes and all NOT to transpose and I'm soooo grateful for it. Now, no matter where I am, keyboard or acoustic piano, I'm good. take my advice, true and learned musicians look down on people who rely solely on tricks in one key and transpose to play in others.

  • Are we still down for the conference?

  • The conference is still on.. We're actually trying to close on the location. But once that goes through, we want to finalize the clinicians for the 2 day event. Can't wait...I'll email you once we lock the location to start the ball rolling..

  • ....

  • just wanted to add to the transpose discussion (a few comments below). I used to transpose because basically, I was too lazy to learn music in keys I was unfamiliar with. For latin churches, white keys rule so anything in flats or sharp was the devil! hahahahaha! But the truth is, when I realized that many REAL musicians would like what I did and then kinda go "oh man, never mind...she transposes", that's when I said enough is enough. (con't)

  • Jamal..Y r u so awesome?? can you take a minute and post a reponse to this question like you did to apple and steve jobs..HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!! from a fan in NJ (Ruthy)...

  • jamal hartwell u sick wid it!

  • did ya call this video tritone extravaganza because your re harmonizing using tritone substitution?

  • This is awesome. Its very sloppy but we all have our days, lol. Be encouraged!

  • this is human incarnate of love

  • Hahahahah-he's transposed it so on tha keyz he's actually playin in C#-my fav key dats hw i knw-sounds nice tho bruv.

  • Hey...no Transpose there buddy! I don't use Transpose! I played the song in Db/C#. But wanted everyone to know, don't use the transpose. I'll figure the songs out in the keys they are originally in!

  • Yh my mistake sz bruv-i jus saw ur fingers hittin chords i use in C# and thought it was-sorri bruv.

  • he was using eharmonics.

  • dont get mad at me Jamal...lol but Its kind of hard to stop transposing

  • thats alright, i made that praise face for him...umph umph umph

  • OMG Thanks J.

  • wow man u really genious at that bro

  • Nice implementation of the tritone. Glad you took the liturgical-conservative (antiquity) idea of Diablo di Musica and utilized it to serve GOD.

  • If I played those beautiful chords in a baptist church on a Sunday Morning, my Minister of Music would look at me like I was straight crazy!

    But it sounds great!

  • Not true for most baptist churches. I am from a traditional Baptist church and we don't even have a Minister of Music, but the spirit would usher in.

  • I didn't learn anything from it.

  • Great Job!

  • Most Defintely! Remember this is an instructional DVD, so at the end of the clip you will hear me say, "Ok, let's play it the most basic way." I was merely demonstrating how one can really just go crazy and at the end of this DVD I stress the importance of MODERATION!!! LOL...Good point dzlaty. I didn't take it personal, but want the musicians to know that I agree TOTALLY in what you said!

  • I wanted to make sure that people understood that we were on the same page,, :o) The title of your DVD is Tritone Xtravaganza! I would expect you to be teaching us about... Tritones substitutions. You are a really tasty player and I just wanted to make sure that people put this video into the context in which it was meant. Be blessed and keep teaching.

    D

  • I will add however that Jamal's skill level is great and he does a nice job of putting all those chords together. I was not critiquing his playing, only commenting on the substitution game.

  • This sort of chord subbing has been done already. It is Be-bop era stuff. It is nice in moderation but grates on you when you take it too far out of the box. The general public want to be able to recognize the basic tune in all that sauce. If you make too many subs, you lose your audience. Then you are only really playing for yourself. That is a very lonely place to be for a musician. Use all advanced techniques in moderation. People will thank you for it.

  • dzlaty<---you sure have a lot to say but I don't your CD on the internet... Please Jamal alone this brother has help me whole lot

  • You are a child. You should not try playing in adult playground. You will probably just get your feelings hurt.

As far as my comments to Jamal, they were professional and complimentary and he responded appropriately. He is a the real deal because he can handle constructive critiques with grace and answer back with poise and a strong musically based arguement. He has my respect. I would like to point out that success is not measured by what you publish on the net or put out on a CD.

  • that's the devil's interval isnt it

  • yeah that's what the church liked to call it

  • Jamal, u r like a musical god.. U inspire me 2 explore.. and i've become a much better keyboardist... i need 2 now practise more of these tritones.. BLESS

  • That is so ugly, its beautiful. I can't wait to buy this dvd along with the urban worship series.

  • Hey jamal do you know any cool ending chord you can off with a song if there is I would like for you to show me... and I'm also practicing your tritones alot.. I want to get use to them

  • This is one of the most beautiful things i've heard in my whole life.

  • Jamal,

How do you show the little piano on the screen so that the keys light up when you play? Is this software that you have bought?

  • This piano sounds really awful. Although his skills are quit good, I miss the feeling of the song... this is funeral style iso happiness.

    Keep practising!

  • HEY JAMAl I learned all your new tritones on on tritone extravaganza AND IM PLAYING LIKE A PRO !

  • Man Thanks man! See some people just purchase and don't practice. I love the fact that you are sucking up everything! Thanks for the suppport!

  • can you tell me a nice ending chord that you can use at the end of a song in Ab

  • You can use, [A-flat, E-flat, A-flat] for left hand, and [G, B-flat, C, E-flat] for right hand. All from left to right. Make sure your right hand thumb starts directly b4 your left hand thumb finishes, as in left thumb over right on the A-flat. The right will be one half-step under, which is the G.

  • MONSTROUS.

  • this guy is too goood its actually amazing.

whats up with that comment on black sabbath, that guy shouldnt be listeing to music if he cant appreciate this. actually listen to the music for once man. this is wonderful and im not religious even.

  • The tritone is in nearly all Black Sabbath and Metallica songs.

  • but they fail to make it sound good like this guy.

and its not in all of their songs.

  • honestly..I don't like this guy's style

  • yeah its like hes doin to much wit it for a hymn

  • yea I mean..maybe it's just that i don't really get what he's doing..but I think it should be played more simply and beautifully...it just don't sound right...but he plays like that all the time so maybe it's just too "advanced" for my ears to grasp...I dunno...I'm glad someone agrees though

  • but if he does that he will defeating his purpose. He his stepping out of the box, of how people think you should play. You gotta have that kind of ear to get it. Now if he played it straight or churchy, then you would say, " man, he is really tearing up that piano!" We in actuality he is on an entire another level.

  • i've always known Jamal was really good and that he did alot of out of the box things, but uhhhhmmmmm idk about this one LOL

  • THis was great!!! Would you play for my live recording next summer?

  • I wanted to know would you play for my Live recording next summer?

  • that was fantastic men, God bless you for your effect to help gospel musicians

  • this is just 2 crazy......

  • Great. This looks like another must have.

Jamal, what's up with the gospelmusicians website? Is it still in production?

  • That was cool rendition Doc! Lotta subs and Tritones! Tritones! Tritones!
