hahaha...when i just listened to the start...i was like...how much can one person be gifted?I am so amazed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It just makes me laugh...this is too much.
@FELO88ROY You are missing the whole point. This is an example of an instructional DVD. I went OVERBOARD on purpose to demonstrate the tritone. If you listen to the very end, I say: "Now let's play it the regular way." If you got the whole DVD you would understand that it's an example to show how to put the tritones, but of course I would never plaly it like that in service. Take the PIECES you need then keep it simple!
@FELO88ROY i've been watchin and following his lessons, and he is big on flowing with the spirit and not taking away . but adding to the overall ministry. I would assume the same thing off of just one. but don't judge a thing before it's time, these are some of the best I've found on the net. very few actually know what they are doing. most just show. peace and blessings
What a blessing, a talented and gifted young man that is willing to share and teach the up and coming! I like this dude. Besides, I always sing this song in Aflat or G when I am horse - but I think he made me sound good while I was sitting here singing lol!
not really a fan a fan of this type of playin. not sayin it doesnt take skill , he is very talented. he just WAY overcomplicated an otherwise beautiful song. if he played that in a sanctuary, no one (except other musicians maybe) would've even been able to recognize it. just my humble opinion. comments are very welcome...
I started classic piano lessons at age 6/7. Im 13 now and im playing 4 a Gospel choir, my Church, and my school in the Bahamas. Guys at skool keep beggin me 4 lessons that I learned from u.
How did you think the song leader will follow this sort piano accompaniment ? Why can you sing and play at the same time see whether the congregation will follow ?
How you think the song leader will follow this sort of piano accompaniment at church? How about you play and sing at the same time see the congregation will follow you
As said before, this is just an overexaggerated example on how to use the Tritones. Of course I would not play it like this all the way. The purpose of the ENTIRE DVD is to show Tritone substitutions, so I was merely showing how you can perform different Tritone substitutions. If you listen to the end of the video you hear me say, OK Let's play it the regular way!!!
he was just playing the song trying to show people different ways to use tritones througout the song.....he was showing ppl different tri tones throughout...cmon ppl he is sharp.....not too many ppl can use tritones anyway so just stop hating,.....you did ya thang mayne
i also agree that the comment about a poor rendtion can't be from a good musician. I beleive any good gospel musician will have plenty of ways to play the same song. Whether you personally like this go'round of the song or not, you have to truly respect the skill and creativity.
the person who said this was a poor terrible rendition either dont know music or is jus hatin cos they cant do that, if they were a good musician they would have encouraged you.
(con't) I forced myself, mistakes and all NOT to transpose and I'm soooo grateful for it. Now, no matter where I am, keyboard or acoustic piano, I'm good. take my advice, true and learned musicians look down on people who rely solely on tricks in one key and transpose to play in others.
The conference is still on.. We're actually trying to close on the location. But once that goes through, we want to finalize the clinicians for the 2 day event. Can't wait...I'll email you once we lock the location to start the ball rolling..
just wanted to add to the transpose discussion (a few comments below). I used to transpose because basically, I was too lazy to learn music in keys I was unfamiliar with. For latin churches, white keys rule so anything in flats or sharp was the devil! hahahahaha! But the truth is, when I realized that many REAL musicians would like what I did and then kinda go "oh man, never mind...she transposes", that's when I said enough is enough. (con't)
Jamal..Y r u so awesome?? can you take a minute and post a reponse to this question like you did to apple and steve jobs..HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!! from a fan in NJ (Ruthy)...
Hey...no Transpose there buddy! I don't use Transpose! I played the song in Db/C#. But wanted everyone to know, don't use the transpose. I'll figure the songs out in the keys they are originally in!
Most Defintely! Remember this is an instructional DVD, so at the end of the clip you will hear me say, "Ok, let's play it the most basic way." I was merely demonstrating how one can really just go crazy and at the end of this DVD I stress the importance of MODERATION!!! LOL...Good point dzlaty. I didn't take it personal, but want the musicians to know that I agree TOTALLY in what you said!

I would like to point out that success is not measured by what you publish on the net or put out on a CD.
Jamal, u r like a musical god.. U inspire me 2 explore.. and i've become a much better keyboardist... i need 2 now practise more of these tritones.. BLESS
Hey jamal do you know any cool ending chord you can off with a song if there is I would like for you to show me... and I'm also practicing your tritones alot.. I want to get use to them
You can use, [A-flat, E-flat, A-flat] for left hand, and [G, B-flat, C, E-flat] for right hand. All from left to right. Make sure your right hand thumb starts directly b4 your left hand thumb finishes, as in left thumb over right on the A-flat. The right will be one half-step under, which is the G.
whats up with that comment on black sabbath, that guy shouldnt be listeing to music if he cant appreciate this. actually listen to the music for once man. this is wonderful and im not religious even.
yea I mean..maybe it's just that i don't really get what he's doing..but I think it should be played more simply and beautifully...it just don't sound right...but he plays like that all the time so maybe it's just too "advanced" for my ears to grasp...I dunno...I'm glad someone agrees though
but if he does that he will defeating his purpose. He his stepping out of the box, of how people think you should play. You gotta have that kind of ear to get it. Now if he played it straight or churchy, then you would say, " man, he is really tearing up that piano!" We in actuality he is on an entire another level.

This sort of chord subbing has been done already. It is Be-bop era stuff. It is nice in moderation but grates on you when you take it too far out of the box.
