"Xanadu" has one of the greatest movie soundtracks ever. I think it is great enough to be compared to the likes of "Saturday Night Fever." I believe the soundtrack to "Xanadu" is that good. The movie is far from perfect (After all it's one of the two movies that inspired The Golden Raspberry Awards aka The Razzies. The other movie is "Can't Stop the Music." Olivia wisely turned down a part in that movie to star in "Xanadu".), but it has an appeal to it that makes it at least fun to watch.
I love this movie but why do people put down movies from today? Today's movie musicals are awesome. It's all about discovering something you love. When you are swept away as a child it is almost impossible to have that feeling again as an adult. It doesn't mean that the magic of movies has changed it means you have.
@UltraAltruistism Well the 4 muse is Sandal Bergman, (is not the first, that is a mistake), she is the taller of all muses, She was in the cast of Conan the barbarie with Arnold Schwartzenegger, ius the woman who was her girlfriend and was killed in a scene, when I noticed that she was one of the musas I said ¡No way! is unbelieveble, I like so much this scene
I saw this movie the first time on the TV on the late 80's, and it's haunting me 20 years after, in 2007 finally i found it on DVD and when i heard the first noet of this song, i started crying!!! Marvellous memories marvellous Childhood.
This movie is crap. However, it's good crap. I think back to my younger years at Skate City, and this soundtrack was played routinely. Love it to death.

@oohmatron71. I have to agree with you. I also grew up in the mid 80s-early 90s. I was born in 1975. So I was still kinda little when this movie came out. But just everything as far as movies & music go I would definitely have to say was much better than it is today.
I love this scene one of movies greatest. But I wish it was in high defintion the resolution is not so good. If anyone can upload it in high def please do!!!

Creo que la escena esta no está mal del todo, pero me la imagino mejor con las 9 estatuas de piedra de las musas en un jardin olvidado, en una noche muy azul...
I have to say though, as beautiful as she is, Olivia Newton John cannot dance. All the other chicks are doing ballet and she is just bouncing through there. LOL
I was almost a new born when this movie was released. I watched it with my Dad one day and I was stunned ... its an amazing film. Now I still love the soundtrack and the story is so wonderful. I wish they'd made a remake in our days...
Such a cool soundtrack collaboration with the soundtrack album from this movie. Olivia Newton-John and ELO, two of my favorite artists from the 70s and 80s.
A movie completely unappreciated in its time. Box office bomb that should've made far more movie and music history. I went to see it in the theater 2 days before it was pulled and I was alone in the theater. Kinda felt like this was all for me! I enjoyed and I hope all you do as well!!
My dad bought me a flowy dress like the ones in this movie and I would curl my hair and roller skate around the neighborhood with my leg warmers on! I can only imagine what the neighbors were thinking...I also wanted to be a muse!
I saw it in the theatres when it came out. With visuals like they had, it was meant to be seen on a big screen. They say that sense of smell is the biggest memory recall. Music & Sound is totally Second if not First for many. Thank you for posting this :)

@jacobji5 LOL. i was wondering why the black girl was wearing what i thought was a horn on here head! and why is she showboating in front of the camera like she is proud of it.
lol imagine going around a street corner and then seeing this lol. i would have been standing there for an a hour or so after they "zoomed" away trying to comprehend what i just freakin' saw. lol

This song is really the first song saying "Now we enter the 80'es" with a whole new approach.. Note the strings are left off and replaced by the synth. doing the job. I love the song - it reminds me of my teenage-hood where we started staying out until the early morning - sometime for several days ;o)
It looks like it was coreographed without music! Can't they match the dance to the music! Thats one prob with the film - it was not edited or shot very well in the musical numbers.

@berrybellcosplay I know! There is such stunning beauty and talent from all of the muses. What I love most is that the director cast a diverse group of women to play muses! :)
I remember the barrettes with the ribbons like Olivia Newton-John wore....me & my friends made them and wear in our hair, it became a fad back then,.....omg I am old....LOL!!!!
God, Olivia Newton John was fucking hot in this! Not to mention the dancer spinning in 2:07 is actress Sandahl Bergman who played Valeria, Arnold Schwarzenegger's love interest in Conan the Barbarian.
I read somewhere that these blue glow special effects were very difficult to make back in the time, when nowadays computer animation would do the job effortlessly.
@Certeroooo Interesting fact. But if you were alive when this movie was made, you know writers, producers, directors etc. had imaginations and did everything manually...heck, even the stunts were done by stunt people with no computers!!! Those were the days!!!
why don t the muses come out here to talk to us?i m in love with the one that moves her head toward the other angel when the song starts and the guy says ´´i m alive´´.
One other thing I find very odd. If you look closely at the painting at 1:24 you will notice a red spot on her neck. Obvously intended to be a shadow. But, if that's the case, why would he paint it red. Looks more like a scar or sunburn to me. Sunny Malone's too good an artist to be making mistakes like that. Just one more way Xanadu messes with my mind.
I love this movie, and all the music! So slammed when it came out! And Olivia is so beautiful!

Olivia Newton-John's own opinion of Xanadu (which I happen to share) is that the movie was awful, but the music was awesome.
I'm grateful for the former, because it was the vehicle through which the latter came into the world.
That's not to take away from what people are saying here about loving the film, though--it's great that it touched some people in that way.

I wonder why ELO never did a video for this tune that could shine on it's own merits. It would have rocked. Such a pity!

@Gidget115 no, not old. Super Cool! I wore those same ribbons and the leg warmers over my boots. We were both COOL!

@Gidget115 Wish they had not adapted it to Broadway and reduced it to a laughing stock of a musical.

God, Olivia Newton John was fucking hot in this! Not to mention the dancer spinning in 2:07 is actress Sandahl Bergman who played Valeria, Arnold Schwarzenegger's love interest in Conan the Barbarian.

As well the phenomenal beauty of these women should be saluted. Glamour, sensuality, talent.

I read somewhere that these blue glow special effects were very difficult to make back in the time, when nowadays computer animation would do the job effortlessly.

@Certeroooo It was a big deal back then.......I was 12 when this came out and effects like this were not often seen............

@Certeroooo Interesting fact. But if you were alive when this movie was made, you know writers, producers, directors etc. had imaginations and did everything manually...heck, even the stunts were done by stunt people with no computers!!! Those were the days!!!
