It is quite possible that magma has got very close to the surface, close enough to melt the glacier from underneath causing the flood. Or its a hydrothermal explosion. Either way, Katla could still erupt fully, keep your eyes peeled people!

By the look of those holes in the ice there is alot of heat reaching the surface. Katla could erupt within days to weeks but extremely likely within a few months.

it is also possible that it could've been a rise in temperature of some geothermal vents...but there is no solid evidence that an eruption took place
