I think parents now just yell more at kids than spank them..We got our ass whipped!!! And we never did it again...But we were showed more love and attention when I was lil too..then the parents do now days, and we loved our parents and still do, and respected our parents!!!

a couple of months ago in Florida a teen pulled a gun on her mother because she wanted the mother to get a new car for her, they made it to the dealership and the dealer called the police and the teen got arrested. If that happened not only would the gun be snatched away from me but I probably would've been wounded. This is coming from a 22 year old born in 1989 and I'm proud to say that I was raised right.

Kids are completely ignorant now. Im only 39, but I have seen one heck of a change in kids manners and attitude. I raised my kids the old fashioned way, spanking, and actually being grounded. Not time outs and alot of talk. If they were grounded, they had nothing. A bed, pillow, blanket and alarm clock. Thats it! Now kids are just told to stop it. like he said, inside voice.Give me a break. I was spanked with hands, wooden spoons, switch, whatever. And you know what,I haverespect for my elders.

My parents believed in the value of spankings, and they used that approach on me and my sister. When I was a teenager, they switched to grounding me, which considering I wasn't a "brain" person and was always in danger of flunking math or science, happened a lot. In fact, I used to joke that I spent so much time in the doghouse that it was my unofficial mailing address!

Now that I have kids of my own, I can tell you a spanking really DOES hurt you more than it hurts them!

My Dad came from Iowa and my Mom from Arizona. (Army brat, woo!) And they told me they tried spanking me once, just once, and they hated it and it didn't do shit for me. So they just talked to me, scolded me and my punishments have always been restrictions. I'd get toys taken away or I couldn't go outside and play. Later on I wouldn't be allowed on the computer. I turned out better than most people I know.

Sometimes timeouts just aren't enough. They worked on my sister because she hated being alone and ignored. They didn't work on my because I enjoyed being alone with the time to think, lol.

I'm a native Arkansan living in Oregon. I'm a daycare assistant and I have seen lots of unsafe behaviors or outright rude behavior from the kids i previously worked with and this daycare I work at has a very liberal way of doing things (like lack of disciplinary methods such as no time outs, no notes home to parents etc.) basically they are letting the children misbehave and from what I know by instinct, that is not good for development.

@CyberViewer007 With older generations of parents, once you got old enough to where getting spanked with mom's hand didn't hurt anymore, parents would move on to tree branches. So when you got in trouble you had to go outside and pick a tree branch to cut down to beat your ass with. Oh trust me, it's not fun.

@LoZWWisawesome I know. Im 15 and I was taught to behave OR ELSE. It sickens me to see imature, snarky, rude kids in todays society( including teenagers), but what makes me more surprised is the fact the parents do ab-so-lut-ly nothing about the kids behaviour. On a side note I love Bill Engvall.

@darthnemesis02 Yeah, the parents are usually either afraid of getting reported for abuse or turning them into bullies. The ironic thing is, if they believe the second thing, they are COMPLETELY wrong. It actually brings quite the opposite.

These other moms let their kids run loose all over the place, and didn't do SQUAT to discipline them! One mom looked over at my daughter playing quietly and had the NERVE to ask me how I got her to behave so well! And you CAN'T come right out and say "Because I DISCIPLINE my kid!" It's rude! But I wanted to!
