  • I think you all need to chill out and just watch. Just sayin'.

  • doesn't it kill your feet wearing rubber shoes in tinikling? :D

  • what's the name of the tinikling song?

  • TINIKLING is our National Dance and it is like our National Anthem and SHOULD NOT BE ALTERED in any ways. It should be respected.

  • This is sort of cheating though, of course you can adapt it to modern styles if you want to but the purpose of going barefoot is supposed to be a risk factor in the dance. By wearing thick rubber shoes, you take away the risque function of the dance which is integral to it.

  • aww, im in canada now and im 2nd yr highschool here... im supposed to be 4th yr but they have gr 7 nd 8 before highschool sighh.... but i remember dancing tinikling for some school performance when i was like grade 4? haha fun memories !

  • So many prudes here for all the wrong reasons. This video isn't going to kill tinikling. Tinikling will always be there. It's a group of kids experimenting and being creative. "What if we fuse hiphop with tinikling?" This is how art has always worked. Sometimes it works, sometimes not, but that shouldn't stop you from trying. The haters reminds me of the Pinoys who keep their couches wrapped in plastic, let their kids play with stuff toys mummified in plastic. "Baka masira!" Go out and dance!

  • Next time ya'll should light the sticks on fire!!! Good job on the choreo :)

  • dancers was just jumping, you also have to dance with the hands. well not bad

  • This is really fun... tomorrow our school is going to statenville georgia and we're preforming tinikling there. im nervous but tis great

  • This Tinikling isn't Filipino. It's more American. In the Homeland, dancers (especially school dace troupes) won't dare to dance Tinikling in a "modern" form. It's considered disrepect. Nice try though:)

  • we did this for gym class....they went slower and people still got hurt

  • tinikling starts at 1:53

  • this is GREAT!!!

  • i love the video really creative!!!! don't let anyone tell you guys wrong its fabulous!!!! specially the latin part at the end with nina sky!!!

  • i thought Tinikling is just a traditional dance? not a national dance? there's a big difference.. and it would've been much better if the dancers' sides face the audience throughout the dance.. since i think tinikling is a dance of footwork against rhythm, it would be more appropriate if you can clearly see the footwork involved, and not covered by the pole-bearer..

  • correct me if i'm wrong, though.. it's just my observation and point of view.

  • Part of the art and skill of tinikling is the intensified choreography between the dancers and the bamboo sticks. The banal rhythm of 'modern' (I would rather call it 'western pop') music diminished the traditional dance and made the sticks an irrelevant accessory rather than an integral organ of tinikling. Culture is slaughtered at the altar of pop. How unfortunate.

  • I think it's all in the choreography more than the song, it seems like once they switched to the music, they lost focus on the sticks. They could have put them to more use instead of clanking them on each quarter note. even if they did 4 4 4 8 8 style it would have been more true to the original.

  • Tinikling is NOT the national dance of the Philippines. It's Cariñosa! :)

  • good job

  • Does anyone know the name of the piano song in the beginning of the video?

  • the girls need skirts at least

  • Um it would make it hard to do in a skirt..?

    I mean really

  • no not really. ive done it. plus my pant leg thingy got stuck in the bamboo then i tripped so yea...

  • oh ouch sorry

  • hey anybody know how tinikling came to U.S. and when it was popular?

  • yea this is not PHILIPENES huh?. lol

maybe u should kick your ass to the dictionary before criticizin..

  • oh well.....not too bad...

  • oh! guys your just not respecting our national dance. i understand, we are in a computer wave generation now, but that does mean you can do anything you want for a tradition far beautiful than what you were performing. i saw countless TINIKLING DANCE performed traditionally, it gives me pride as a Filipino in contrast to what you were performing that implies insult apparently to us Filipinos.

  • @tvitorillo how is this disrespecting our national dance? all dances are altered at one point or another to adapt to the dancer's abilities. im a pinay, and i dont see anything wrong with this. our schools filipino club has a version of the dance. does that mean we're disrespecting our own culture?

  • had to do it in pe

  • The BSB part was cool, nice for it.

  • i have to do this for my PE class

  • me2 wat skool u went 2?

  • grabe but i can do better than that!

  • i don't have any agianst variations on the dance kaso, mukhang pilit naman ata ang pagkagawa (no offense).. Cguro kelangan lng naten konting ingat sa mga ginagawa. Well art is open naman, kaso minsan sana hindi yun "pilit". I hope you do understand. The dancer are quite great. Kelangan lng konting coordination konti.

  • wow, people on the other pages are hating this version of it. at least they have creativity of the dance. just because its not part of tradition doesnt mean they arent disrespecting tinikling. dont think im not filipino, cuz i am.

  • Hello, i am a Filipino.. that was ain't good, tinikling in its traditional version is our culture, pure filipino culture, and its beautiful, really good, its not inferior over any culture on earth but this mix version sucks,it is decadence of our culture as filipinos..

  • u didn't know i ve been doing that dance 4 years!

  • This song does not suck, you racist ho.

  • you look at my vids! :) and this stuff is awsome.

  • filipo o0

  • Hey it's Filipino.

  • wth??

wut r u guys talkin about??japanese doesnt do diz shi....

    FILIPINOS do!!!

    omg...get it right:]]

  • Omg... no need to put down other ethnicities while you're at it.

  • Now to do it filipino style- "bare feet" oh how much that hurts, but it's tradition!

  • my pe teacher had us do this bare foot, except there were 6 poles like 2 on 2 on 2 ... and we had to do this and it was hard, and she laughed at us, lol fun timees fun fun times

  • Wtf? It's Filipino.

  • aint no japen. fool. That''s RACIAL PROFILEING....

  • asian jump bamboo

  • I luv Tinikling, it was my favorite game/dance when I was younger. (It still is my favoite dance. ^^)

  • I love it including the hip-hop version. Art is always open for something new.

Try typing "Leyte Dance Theatre" in You Tube search bar. They have good tinikling and other filipino dances too. Enjoy.

  • I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE THE CREATIVE IDEA!! 100 POINTS FOR THE CREATIVITY! but i must say, to effectively pull the hiphop tinikling i think you need impeccable hiphop dancers. some of your dancers were a little stiff, i'm terribly sorry for being honest.

  • ending ruined it... :( great dancing by the way

  • ang tinikling hindinakasapatos dapat naka paa kayo

  • the first part was good but, y would you guys even include bamboo poles in the second part? one of Tinikling's most basic element is the "click, click, slide" rhythm, once you take that away the dance should no longer be called tinikling regardless if it is "modern" or not

  • i don't like it... you shouldn't have worn shoes. and the girls could at least have worn skirts.

  • they don't dance tinikling anymore in the phils. instead they are now doing pole dancing in japan. but they have to master it first in pasay, cubao or ermita.(cover up as G.R.O. guest relation officer. party entertainer or escorts. but behind those mask its about prostitution.)

  • it was good at first... but the pop songs just completely ruined the whole video.

  • wearing shoes doing tinikling?!

  • i dont hate its jzu d end .. wow .. f you guys are going to use a NATIONAL DANCE from the philippines .. atleast use songs dat goes with it .. like filipino stuff .. cuz at the end how you guys use those kind of songs ... kinda killed it ...

  • Do you know any modern Filipino songs? The FSU club and I are trying to come up with a remix to dance to at an assembly in a few months.

  • tinikling is not the national dance of philippines anymore, its carinosa

  • don't hate you, i just hate this idea. i give you negative feedback. same here

  • i don't feel upset for this...

    im a folk dancer too.

but it surprise me to mix folk music with the new one's. i may consider it creativity of a person with filipino background. since, this dance presentation is not a folk dance contest or whatever.

    good job for you guys...

  • ehhe.. that was really cool and fun to watch..

  • would just really prefer the traditional one, otherwise tinikling would just be another western pop bull, you might as well throw in britney spears innit.

  • it's kinda hiphop but it shows the moderness of tinikling

  • In the end, we never claimed for this to be a traditional piece of tinikling as we are a group that has tended to do a lot of fusion of modern and traditional moves. So while we may have moved away from the strictly traditional stuff, I agree with Jamie, that I feel this helps show how tinikling can be adapted with other music and moves.

  • you may not have had any filipino students in your group, but maybe you should have done more research on what you're really showcasing here. i'm sure you could have contacted viable sources, if not in person, than through email.

..and coming from a filipino folk dance troupe, i would have rather you stick with the traditional song as well.

  • I have to agree with joshgumbi...I understand the desire to be creative, but because this interpretation is reduced to pop songs and use of bamboo as props, it takes away from the artistry and skills these dancers demonstrated in the past. Because it is the Philippine National dance, I believe it should be given its due respect. Congrats on the effort, but I hope this is something to think about :)

  • you're re-identifying a culture that already has many problems trying to identify itself. creative...yeah! but you're mocking the unknowing meaning of your own culture with a culture that is mixed with...why do i even bother...

i don't hate you, i just hate this idea. i give you negative feedback. blah!

  • Hey everyone, I am just a member of the group. I didn't choreograph the piece please don't be upset at me. I'm just posting the videos that our group has come up with for the enjoyment or lack of enjoyment for all. Our group consisted of Pan-Asianers and while this piece is by no stretch completely traditional, we tried to incorporate some elements for better or worse.

  • We don't always have Filipino students in our group as we are all college students doing this in our own free time for fun, so we try to make due with what we have. Neither of the choreographers for this piece were Filipino hence we were not able to pull in as much of the traditionality as joshgumbi and pinayorchid were alluding to. I welcome comments and hearty discussion.

  • oh Dear God, I love it!! Crazy

  • wow thats awesome but i think i will stick with the traditional song next time i perform :D good job
