  • Damn, these guys are good live.

  • wow the singer looks like dave grohl, but only in this vid haha

  • These guys are really cool. I remember years ago someone telling me "you should check out Fastball, there is way more to them than just their hit" Anybody who plays a Rockpile song is cool with me.

  • from a distance he looks kind of like dave grohl

  • @USMC00769 I totaly agree :P

  • @USMC00769 When I have my hair the same length.... I get that ALL the time. I think it's the nose... It's exactly the same as Dave's. My friends all call me the illegitimate bastard child of Dave Grohl. lol

  • Thanks for putting belgium on the map! :)

  • GREAT SONG..

  • This song is based on the true story of an elderly couple from Texas who drove to a nearby family reunion and kept going. When they disappeared, a reporter wrote a series of articles about them. Fastball bassist Tony Scalzo came up with the idea for the song after reading the articles. He "pictured them taking off to have fun, however, he found out after writing the song that the couple had died. They were found at the bottom of a canyon in Arkansas about a 3-day drive from their destination.

  • 1:04 was so well done how they timed it

  • Drummer timed it :)

  • AWESOME SONG

i truly enjoy every share from you, this is just so great.

    i truly love it.

  • tony scalzo is special.

    i especially like his songs.

  • hire a keyboard player guys.. love this song but c'mon

  • who's that playing the bass? a new female member of the band?

  • That was Harmoni Kelley on bass. Of course, that was almost two years ago. They've had a couple of other bass players since. Tony moved from bass to guitar a few years ago and they have had various bass players filling out the band.

  • i kno its hard to do it just like in the studio but the sing the chorus too fast lol i like it in a slower tone

  • amazing

  • cool vid, the singer kinda looks like dave grohl

  • The lead singer seems like a cool dude.

  • best live version

  • may just be the video but they should turn the bass up can't hear it

  • hear bass..... that's funny....

  • good point, usually is very hard to hear the bass, but there are a lot of bands that turn it up in studio, but live is always hard to hear it

amazing preformance by the way, i love this band

  • Wow just realized this is recent lol! I love this song! Well kinda hwat happens when you become a one hit wonder..man i love this song.

  • I actually think they have a lot of other better songs that never made it as hits, but should of.

  • really? like what? tell me, im always interested in finding new songs to bands i like

  • when the singer sings ay??

  • Yes..John is the perfect singer (not so much) jajaja..I love him and the RHCP

  • 90's ROCK!!!!

  • ya, the chords are old, the song is great and lol he do like like tom green

  • HAHA The singer looks like Tom Green

  • @dizzle49er i was just about to say that LOL

  • Nice to see they're still bustin' out the tunes of the good old days.

  • It sucks that they are stuck playing such small venues like that now.

  • thats good alternative, ROCK ON!!

  • wow, he looks so old now vs. his 1998 music video, but then again, you have to take into consideration that it's almost 10 years later.

  • Does someone know, if this is actually the original of the song(or melody), or if it is just a cover. It seems so familiar to me, but I would say it's from the 70's...

    Thanks for your help :)

  • This is definitely the original song, done by the original artist. "The Way" hit #1 for Fastball in 1998. It was written by Tony Scalzo, who sings it on this video.

  • @texasyesfan tom jones delilah sounds prettysimilar

  • it might be that the chord progression in the chorus is the same as pachelbels canon except for the last chord. that do anything for you?

  • @ Texasyesfan:

I guess you're right. The Verses are a little bit familiar with Tom Jones' Delilah from 1968.

    (@ GMadd9)

But I think that the Chorus is NOT from pachebels canon! I listened to it and I think it doesn't sound like it, even if there might be A, E, F#m or sth. like that in there. There are so many songs that have the same chord-scheme but still they are different.

RESPECT TO FASTBALL! LOVE THIS SONG!

    Thanks for your help ;)

  • It's original but the chord progression of the verses is very common - any number of songs use it from Delilah (mentioned below) to Besame Mucho and then slight variants such as Django Reihardt's Minor Swing from back in the 30s - I'm sure the list would be endless.

  • @kanadier1 It could be a familiar reminder of the song "Besame Mucho" which was covered many a time throughout the years. You can really hear it during the verses chord progression.

  • @kanadier1

Talking about Fastball's The Way. don't know if you got an answer to your question long ago?!?

I Don't really know if it is a cover or if maybe they borrowed some part of the song. I? think it sound so familiar cuz its in a vary strait-forward rock style. And it has a strong Rockabilly "lean". I suppose its this way for a reason. It makes it so catchy and modern ketch. Remember Rockabilly is from the 50`s

  • @kanadier1 OH yea I forgot to mention. IT IS INDEED ORIGINAL. Check out Theo Katzman, White picket castle ONOTHER VARY ORIGINAL sound. There nobodies ENJOY

  • this song makes me think of my brother and nephew who were killed by a drunk driver. i know they are in a better place. the roads are paved in gold, it's always Summer, they'll never get cold, they'll never get hungry, they'll never get old and gray. god bless Keith and Ryan.

  • i just want you to know that that touched me. bless them

  • thank you. i miss them very much. Ryan would be 18 now (they died in 1998) and able to fly out to see his aunt and fish with his uncle. see the ocean, etc. Ryan was born on the same day as me, Sept. 27. what a joy he was. He kept asking me if i was gonna visit that year for our birthday and i just couldn't make it. They died on Oct. 5, 1998. If i had gone it is possible i would be with them now, in Heaven. not my time i guess.

  • @jrzgrl101 very sorry for your loss

  • That Les Paul sounds like crap. SHould have used the Gretch, like in the original recording.

  • fastball's one of those bands that everyone knows at least one of their songs and recongnizes it right away, but no one knows who the band is.

  • I disagree, just because everyone draws knowledge from common media doesn't mean there aren't some well-informed people out there. But sadly, I agree, most of the people in this country are ignorant and their only source of knowledge is fed to them, not what they reach out to learn :(

  • Wtf are you sayin dude? "I disagree...I agree" and hes just saying that its a popular song by a not-so-well-known band.

  • keep it simple!

or join a forum or chat room because not everyone sees things through your eyes...it's just not the way:)

  • One Of my favorite songs of all time, 90's were great!

  • they're the best..anyone seen Are You Ready for The Fallout (by them as well,1st album) video or live or cover around youtube?

  • omfg

they should be fuckin in cali, florida, austria, new zealand, england, france, africa, ant-fuk=king-arctica!

THEY ARE BETTER THEN THIS. THEY NEED A FUCKING COME BACK! I grew up listening to this stuff, and I'm only 16. they deserve more.

  • Do they ever play in dallas? I'm in the DFW area and I would love to see them.

  • Even the live version sounds soooooooo goood ! I love it! Thank you !

  • thats weird. i thought the other guy was the singer. unless they switch off.

  • no bro they don't switch off the other guy is backup

  • ah, so it just depends on the song i see. cause the other guy sings on a couple other videos.

  • Actually, both Miles (on the left) and Tony (on the right) sing about equally. Each of them is a songwriter, and generally sings on his own songs.

  • Todays music videos should be as the 60s clips, we need to see the performers.

  • they certainly rock! my theme song.......

  • the lead singer also is starting to look like Dave Grohl :-P

  • lol thats exactly what i was thinking

  • was this before they got famous or a recent concert?

  • Hey there - All Fastball fans who are within driving distance of Fayetteville, Arkansas. Fastball will be playing a free outdoor concert on NEW YEAR'S EVE on the Fayetteville Square. They are such a great band. A great way to bring in 2008! Spread the word!

  • I love this song... it remind me the old times.

  • Thanks for posting this video! Texas music scene is awsome.

  • wow! The singer looks like Tom Green! But they rock!!!

  • chick bassist? who is she?

  • Her name is Harmoni Kelley. She's a recent addition to the band.

  • sounds pretty good considering the drums aren't mic'd

  • amo essa musica e classica é boam de ouvir

  • good music, great song.they are really good.but may be they were not lucky enough to stay in the top.

  • umm don't fucking dis the Beatles. I like fastball, but honestly they really had only a few good hits, and now these are about the only gigs they can get now. If anyone has their san antonio performance back from 99, in fact i think someone did upload it about a year ago but took it off. It is like one of their best live performances of out of my head and they way. So please if you are in possession of that upload!

  • I feel sorry for these guys, great band that deserved much more than the beatles curse. Anyone who is compared to the beatles gets fucked, these guys have great music, but someone had to bring up the goddamn beatles, this isn't the first time this has happened, lot of good bands...

  • This performance itself, I think, epitomizes the deeper meaning of the song itself. It's quite the effect.

I love this song. It's awesome.

  • nniiceee

  • It's the real band. They're ten years older now =\

  • It sounds amazing, just the drums are a bit like me doing dish-washing

  • yeah,,this dudes are from Sweatwater Tx,,,I met them.

  • Austin tx band on 6th street

  • This takes me back to my senior year in college--good times!

  • wow they sounds good live

  • This song reminds me 98, great classic!

  • i finally know who sings this great song ... by the way, there's a local singer in Taiwan called "Wubai" who has the similiar guitar accompaniment like this song. The accompaniment of this song makes me remind of him~

  • This song always made me think of the immortality of and the sacrifice of fame, but I dunno. Maybe I'm wrong. Good to hear this song again. It was one of my favorites during the '90s.

  • que tal canción, recuerdos del `98 y `99, De Puta Madre... lo máximo..
