  • fifteen people seem to like raping the repeat button. Surely it should be grapeing the repeat button (there appears to be a 'bunch' of them). ha ha ha, great song btw

  • long live Mozzer

  • this song is much too short

  • @msparkermarryme it should last for weeks

  • I hate it when people say "raping the repeat button" there are thousands of women who get raped. it's no laughing matter. It causes peoples lives to be destroyed and disturbed forever.

  • @OddManSam Jesus - the whole world gets offended by something, Use your noggin to interpret the words in context.

  • @OddManSam chill out you silly sausage

  • @TT0m0o @orsonkarte sorry if I sound like an diplomatic idiot. I was just annoyed. I know a lot people who've gotten raped in real life. and they told me that they get really upset and depressed when people laugh and make jokes about rape. But hey, it's something most people (my self included) won't truly understand because they've never been raped before.

  • The Smiths made a huge footprint in music.

  • FUC!! COOL SONG

  • I see all of the arguments below and i can't help but just think how none of these people are not even listening to this brilliant piece of musical history. and that makes me sad. quite.

  • Love the strange pitch shifted vocal harmony in the chorus! Takes me back

  • k.

  • Top contender on my Epic Songs list ( I actually have a list covering many genre's.. this song is way up there )

  • Morissey and Johnny Marr are legends!

  • Просто лучшая

  • I've got no right to take my place in the human race either. Gay, Straight or "other".

Just by me a drink once in a while.

  • Thanks

  • Raping the repeat button

  • FUCK ADS!!!!!!

  • Ann Coats brought me here

  • win....

  • For gods sake guys, little more respect to each other. Whatever Thatcher did (and she wasn't from my party), some of it had to be done. The mine closing brought the UK back in business. But that doesn't mean it didn’t have a huge impact on lots of families. As did the poll tax. But apparently harsh times bring good art.

  • This song would be 50,000,000 times better without the faggy chipmunk squeaky voices.

  • @thedotpeople i totally agree with you

  • @thedotpeople please refrain from using offensive, homophobic language. Also I personally quite like the "squeaky" voice.

  • @ejev33 who the fuck are you? The Internet Police? "Fag" isn't homophobic. Gay people can be fags, straight people can be fags. I don't know, or care, if you are gay or straight, but I know you're a fag. Go suck a bag of dicks.

  • @thedotpeople "suck a bag of dicks" Louis C.K.?

  • @thedotpeople 'Fag' is a derogatory term for gay, so yes, it is homophobic. Also, where might I aquire a bag of dicks? I've never seen one at Sainsbury's, but then again, maybe some of the larger stores stock them?

  • @suspicousfluid I'm sure you know where to find dicks to suck. You just need to look somewhere other than your father. Try another one for a change. I bet there is a lot of "suspicious fluid" dripping down your chin right now... Niggerjewfag.

  • @thedotpeople It amuses me that you assume that my father is alive. Also, in your closing remark you managed to list three of history's most discriminated agianst groups. Charming. Besides, you instructed me to suck 'a bag' of dicks, not individual dicks. I suppose I could find several and put them in a bag?

  • @suspicousfluid well said

  • @suspicousfluid your father probably died to get away from you because you're such a loser.

  • @thedotpeople A fag is an offensive word for gay people so it's homophobic, so you sir should go and suck a "bag of dicks" < interesting phrase

  • no mistaking that epic marr sound! he always had a knack capturing the despair and emotion. genious

  • Why is there a picture of a young James Dean on the album cover?

  • @LondonPride25 Morissey was sort of interested in Dean in a physical way. He wasnt a fan of his acting. He also said that dean was a symbol of self destruction. He died driving his Porsche to a race track. The irony being not long before this Dean had made a public film aimed at teens telling them not to drive to fast!

  • this was my coming out song.

    1986.

    i'm an old fag now.

but being a teenager in the 80's was truly incredible.

gay or straight, it was very exciting times.

  • @rl876 I think most people always feel there teen years exciting, whatever era.I grew up in the 80s Im 43. For me it was a great time for bands etc. However there was an ugly side.Thatcher & her cronies encouraging people that greed is good. Her policies have affected the poorest. She ruined lives. Its good to remember the bad times too.It gives us perspective!I must say that youth culture is homoginised now.No individuality.Just sheep!

  • @stevobath you ignorant fool everything you have you owe to Thatcher. If it hadn't been for her we'd still be living like the Soviets. Wake up and learn economics, socialism leads to poverty and strife.

  • @ELUSIVE2006 Fuck you.Whod do you think you are? Think your getting Communism mixed up with Socialism. There is a difference.Tories encourage division of labour & boom & bust economicsThatcher done away with our manufacturing base. Our biggest earners are tourism & banking, both of which are inherently unstable. We make nothing much now hence our cronic reliance on imports.Capitalism is a flawed concept just like ANY economic system is.Its just an opinion.Fuck off Tory

  • @ELUSIVE2006 Her policies directly affected my family along with millions of others.Bet you grew up in a comfy middle class home with little or no money worries. I dont care whos in Govt as long as EVERYONE gets treated fairly. Obviously you dont read the right things. The most respected economists are actually admitting that the Capitalist model is inherently unstable. We need to come up with a new system rather than the SHITSTEM we have now.Boom & bust every 10/15yrs isnt good.

  • @stevobath your family were public sector parasites, weren't they? You'd rather we went back to the 70s, with the dead left unburied and the streets filled with garbage, wouldn't you? The only thing I criticize Thatcher for is she didn't go far enough in wiping the socialist/syndicate filth clean off Britain. Wake up and read some social science literature, free markets are highly correlated with prosperity. For everyone, including the poor. Go back to Cuba you socialist loser

  • @ELUSIVE2006 Tell that to China.

  • @ELUSIVE2006 The public sector work a lot harder than the "wanker bankers" that screwed up our economy in the first place, they work harder than anyone in the financial sector and you call them the parasites? Last time I looked they weren't paid two salaries for doing one job which is what the bankers and politicians get in "bonuses" and "expenses". I'd rather there be rubbish in the streets then have the mantras "greed is good", "Selfishness is good"...

  • @beatrice8780 Please take your angry political rants elsewhere and enjoy a good song.

  • @ELUSIVE2006 ..."Prejudice is good", "apathy is good", "it's perfectly acceptable to make millions of people unemployed by closing down their industries then blaming them and accusing them of being scroungers when they have no other choice but to claim benefits to support their families". All very sneaky ploys of the conservative party. We can't make the rich take responsibility for their poor choices and actions, oh no! We must make the poor suffer and pay for it instead.

  • @ELUSIVE2006 Turn the poor into scapegoats! I bet you've never had to get your hands dirty, or lifted a finger to help anyone in your life. I hope you never use the NHS or any public services. I hope no one looks after you if you ever lose your status, privelleges, wealth or health. I hope you have no one to help you out, because only then will you learn something called empathy. Why do tories always have to name call to get their point across?

  • @ELUSIVE2006 My Parents, both now dead, were far from being parasites. My Father served in the army from 1944-57 & again from 63-8.He served in the Korean war was mentioned in despatches, wounded fighting a war for which 50,000 UN troops were gave their lives,so Tory cunts like you can spout your evil, vile rethoric.Big mouth really does strike again, you stupid fool.I hope you lose everything in life.Arrogant, vile self serving Right Winger

  • @rl876 I was born in 89 but adore what the 80's music movement brought us. My generation sucks. :-p

  • @rl876 Stop using homophobic language!

  • Heard this song for the first time in Bode Merril's video part this year, can't get enough of it.

  • I for one like the chipmunk voices in the background. haterz gunna hate.

  • does anyone else think of along the watchtower when they hear this?

  • i saw some concert thing on the bottom of the vid and i almost shat myself. cant believe i actually thought the smiths were doing a concert near me. just some other thing. =(

  • Love the Smiths, I just do not like that high pitched voice in the background but it is completely understandable considering that it is the 80s.

  • Morrissey makes one stupid error in this song. Joan of Arc was around hundreds of years ago WAY BEFORE walkmans and/or hearing aids were not invented!!

  • @vymmas I sincerely hope you have nothing more challenging to do in life than brush your teeth....

  • @vymmas maybe YOU are stupid.. the singer identifies himself with Joan of Arc...and he (the singer..) in the reality wears often the hearing aids...that's all.

  • @vymmas yes...its called an anachronism...clever isn't it?

    Damn....those were some lyrics...

  • @vymmas U do know what metafores are I hope?

  • @Reinaatje What's a meta for?

  • @marsamgod73

    met·a·phor (mt-fôr, -fr)

    n.

    1. A figure of speech in which a word or phrase that ordinarily designates one thing is used to designate another, thus making an implicit comparison, as in "a sea of troubles" or "All the world's a stage" (Shakespeare).

    2. One thing conceived as representing another; a symbol: "Hollywood has always been an irresistible, prefabricated metaphor for the crass, the materialistic, the shallow, and the craven" (Neal Gabler).

  • @Reinaatje Haha metafore. Awesome.

  • @joewoodhead1 Well English is not my first language :) however, I assume you got my point ;)

  • @vymmas i get your ironic humour. the rest missed it. well played.

  • love Morrissey's lyrics...

  • Moz is most definitely talking about Bono here. xD

  • Love the solo 0:48 till 1:20

  • whats a walkman?

  • favourite song by one of my favourite bands.

  • @primavolta you have great taste!

  • and now I'm sad again

  • I don't like the smiths but i learnt to play this tonight with a mate and the bass line is dead funky

  • @Arkipelago2

I know it's difficult for you Justin Bieber fans to appreciate good music. But, your loss I guess.

  • @Arkipelago2 AND thats why you're watching it, petty belieber.

  • @Arkipelago2 Best song in the history of anything, imo xx

  • @Arkipelago2 Worst comment in the history of youtube comments

  • Greatest song in the history of history

  • I bought that pink 12 inch in Wax Factor, Brighton, in 1987. That was a gift sent by the Gods. The bad side is that now am 40 and struggling with the quiff.

  • that chipmunk voice is actually morrissey. he just recorded it in a way way higher tone and put it in as backing vocals

  • @xXSoiledTrousersXx Yep, otherwise known as Ann Coates, or initially Sally ford!

  • also this guy had no idea how joan of arc felt

  • Morrissey is a twat with the biggest mouth of all. Still, a great song, with particularly great drumming. Shame Moz hates Joyce, we'll never get that reunion

  • Just woke up from a dream, where I was singing this song to my mother. Hmm. Repressed rage, I suppose.

  • O O O BIG MOUTH HO HO HO HAHAHA

  • nobody knows how joan of arc felt not even herself i should imagine..bigmouth strikes again..piss off.

  • @4umariana AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA :P

  • 11 people should be bludgeoned in their beds

  • This song is the story of my life ha

  • everybody remembers only Morrissey from the smiths, it's a shame for Johhny Marr

  • @mickymicky0 being 14 and listening to The Smiths DOES make you special. It's good to know that The Smiths will carry on. Thanks for having good taste in music. Pay no attention to @csalamunes.

  • masterpiece

  • Love this song! :)

  • Sweetness, sweetness I was only joking when I said I'd like to smash every tooth in your head.

  • I'm 14 and The Smiths have truly played a part in my emotional life--when I'm sad I listen to them, when I'm happy I listen to them, when I'm mad I listen to them--their different rhythms and the way their lyrics hit my spine just make me able to listen to their songs anytime of day. I will always love The Smiths...if only they could live forever. Thank you YouTube for suggesting one of their songs--I would've never known. What HAS happened to music. 1984 (book) was right.

  • @mickymicky0 being 14 or not doesn't make you more special than any other listener.

  • @csalamunes Why are you calling her out on her age? Get a life.

  • I want to marry Morrissey. <3

  • one of their bests ...I'm stucked with this song!

  • I found out about The Smiths and Morrissey by looking through my Dad's collection of albums and they have quickly became one of my favourite bands. It makes me wish i was a teenager in the 1980's so i could witness The Smiths in all their glory. As Morrissey once said "Popular music is slowly being laid to rest in every conceivable way... the ashes are already about us if we could but notice them." what has the world done to music :/...

  • @DAI2I2E7V Why do you have to have been a teenager in the 80's to enjoy the music?? You have the music available to you now. I saw the Smiths in about '87 and was totally in love with them. My fifteen year old son saw Morrissey play last summer and was equally blown away! You're both lucky you have parents with such good taste!!! :-)

  • @spacecatmoonbeam I Know we are! :) and yeah i know we are but feel like i was born in the wrong decade!! :)

  • @DAI2I2E7V completely agree with you dude, well said.

  • one of the best songs ever

  • the smiths are amazing.

  • I think Alvin and the Chipmunks did an awesome job on backing vocals.

  • @beebeeguy69 They kicked ass you kidding? lol

  • @beebeeguy69 i couldnt agree more with you, half of the song's awesomeness comes from the back vocals

  • @beebeeguy69 lol

  • There Is No Obscurity To Morrissey's Lyrics!!! Plus He Makes His Point Without Expletives!!!

  • Favourite song of all time!! Real fucking music.

  • beautiful....

  • 9 PEOPLE HAVE BIG ASS MOUTHS!!

  • best song to skate

  • so bored of all the homophobic comments, ok morrissey is gay , so what!

  • @TheSaoirse777 he isnt gay hes mysterious

  • @TheSaoirse777 't actually confirmed his sexuality... :) <3

  • this song travels your mind...

  • This song. This fucking song.

  • People who say the smiths are depressing have never listened to the lyrics of this song!!

  • 8 people have no right to take their place in the human race

  • Esta canción es muy buena. La estuve buscando por mucho tiempo... pensé que la cantaba Michael Stipe de R.E.M... las voces son idénticas

  • incredible song!!!

  • Johnny Marr is such a genius.

  • Aww my boyfriend played this song when we made love <3

  • @FairyDaisy120 your boyfriend played this song when we made love too

  • @populvuh02 Ugh keep your sexual comments to yourself please

  • 6 people don't know how Joan of Arc felt.

  • the song is brilliant from beginning to end, but Mike Joyce (drummer) holds it afloat.

  • The song.

  • My girlfriend hates it when i joke like that

  • I bought the record then , still a fantastic album , a true classic

  • should follow billy childish with THEE bass guitar and THEE drums.-i dunno-Roman nose? -get where i'm coming from there?

  • Comment removed

  • sad so much hate in the comments for a band whose most underlying tone was to end this type of behavior.

  • Lol @ "THE Bass Guitar" and "THE Drums"

  • @thefatalepic Get the feeling that S.P.M. added those The-s partly for the humour and partly maybe to set himself and Marr apart from the non-visionary elements of the band.

  • @PeasGraveny I was thinking maybe there was too much emphasis on Morrissey and Johnny Marr (although, rightfully so) so they threw a big THE in front of the drums and bass. And of course, partly for the humor.

  • Well, they WERE known for such subtle humor weren't they? Clever.

  • This song brings peace.. in the past.. we need it know!

  • Love everything about this song.. The voice, the lyrics, the beat.. EVERYTHING! :]

  • Love this old song, aired often on Chicago's finest rock, WXRT, 93.1. Where are the Smiths now?

  • @Tricky455 They're at home. Where are you?

  • Ann Coates is great on backing vocals

  • I love this song, but has anyone else noticed Joan of Arc was French (not Roman)? Just a curiosity, that's all... : )

  • @theguyfromplt A "Roman nose" means a nose somewhat aquiline. This type of nose became known in the Celto-Teutonic countries as a “Roman” nose because it was less typical among people of Celto-Teutonic phenotype and was most typically encountered by them when in contact with Romans of Mediterranean phenotype. Maybe, there is also a religious meaning behind the use of the word "Roman" (e.g. Catholic). Who knows... :-)
