  • سبحان الله

  • is that all one plant?

  • Am i really that bored to watch plants?

  • I am starting to itch just watching the video.

  • You know, these plants are actually kinda pretty. :)

  • ugh all those flies crawilng everywhere making my skin crawl

  • what is your obsession with carnivorous plants? sadistic?

  • my heliamphora has a higher IQ

  • But why do I see ants climbing out of the plant while inside it?

  • @Piranhaboy01 How do you keep your plants looking like that?????

  • @TheZecritic it's amazingly simple really, i place them in bright light (out in partial shade all summer; inside under bright lights during winter), they sit in sopping wet sphagnum, and i spray them with a nozzle to mimic heavy rainfalls as often as i could. that's it... they feed themselves very well.

  • how then, do the flowers ever get pollinated if every bug that visits gets eaten?o.0

  • @slateflash not every bug gets eaten. pollinators don't seem to be attracted to the pitchers like they are to the flowers.

  • @Piranhaboy01 So they must have other means of reproduction?

  • @PikachuCLS7 no, they still have flowers but the insects that visit and pollinate the flowers aren't usually attracted to the scent of the traps therefore don't often visit the traps to fall prey. if i'm not mistaken, there's a certain frequency of wing beats from certain flying creatures like bees that release pollen. they are specific in their pollination

  • @Piranhaboy01 Ah yes, I forgot about that targeting factor. Mother nature is quite interesting, hmm?

  • @Piranhaboy01 will the plant grow perfectly in the philipines?(Does it need snow? in hhere we have no snow)

  • @pepe10282002 they need cool nights, no snow. they can't handle frosts but if you have cool evenings and warm days, you should have no problem

  • @Piranhaboy01 well its pretty complicated here in the sunny days, day is hotter and cold is like 22 steps away from hot as day , in rainy days, day is 24 steps away from cold as night and night is 32 steps away from in near freezing in days like today i dont even need a fan! but for dengue and fly protecton, i need a fan.

  • @pepe10282002 by steps do you mean degrees?... if your day is 22 degrees warmer than night, you're laughing... these, and many other carnivorous plants will flourish. do you get temps near freezing in the Philippines??

  • @Piranhaboy01 in night, in december its this far from freezing (STARTING POINT O)

O-----------------------FREEZING plus IM A KID dont expect me to understand temperature

  • hey guys, wanna come to dinner?

    yay

    where's the dinner?

    YOU'RE THE DINNER

  • the insects got drowned, right?

it's not the plant's fault that they died. LOL.

  • plant of doom

  • Does that plant NATURALLY attract bugs?

  • @jaesong Yes, the pitcher plant has nectar on the lip so if an unfortunate hungry insect comes by *slip.* Also the design on the pitcher plant can attract insects as well.

  • @lazlo380 ...AND it has a very strong scent of roses that will fill a room.

  • That heliaphora is such a slut.

  • It stinks?

  • Where do you get this kind of plant?

  • Ant:Holy shit guys i found a Jack Uzi come here guys! whispers..:oh shit that's not a Jack Uzi.. nevermind guys!! im stuck!

  • weirdly enough...this video is making me hungry.

  • how does this plant work?

  • I like how some ants test out the "water", realize what it is and then gtfo of the plant.

  • people stop getting mad this plant in nature would still kill whether he was filming it or not sheesh this is the circle of life no said its was going to be fare

  • I heard planets like this have a really foul oder and are hard to keep alive. Any truth to this statments?

  • Wonder if the ants' formic acid trails are leading their unwitting brethren (sisters) to their doom.

  • OH MY GOD THEIR DROPPING LIKE FLIES- oh wait...

  • 2:12 BUG: FAIL PLANT I OWNED U!! XD OH SHIT...

  • what happens if someone sticks their finger in there?

  • thumbs up if u think the water thing in the plants looks like coffee in this vid

  • No, mosquitoes don't keep litterers away because it's called bug spray!

Mosquitoes from other parts of the world can transfer Malaria.

Mosquitoes here can transfer West Nile Virus.

Not to mention the annoying, itchy bumps and bites mosquitoes give you.

You have just been pwned. :3

  • @Brainthang and humans can transfer aids, hiv, hepatitis, syphilis, and other worse things that leave you with worse than just bumps. So... stay out of life.

  • @Tr4cK17 And humans can prevent diseases and/or treat/cure diseases transferred by other humans. We can do the same with diseases transferred through mosquitos, but I think life would just be much better without having to go through the trouble. I appreciate being alive and I appreciate the existence of other humans (even though we've screwed up some things). So no, I will not "stay out of life." Pwned... Again.

  • @Brainthang insects are an important part of our ecology

  • @Brainthang You didn't get it. Humans are just as bad as mosquitoes, if not worse than them.

  • @GhostIntoTheFog : Dragonflies eat mosquitoes. :)

  • you like watching things die Piranhaboy01

  • what is that liquid stuff thing in the plant

  • awesome footage u must have quite the collection there

  • how do they get the liguid? from the water in the soil? :P

  • one question, can this thing get flies? or mostly just walking insects?

  • haha i get it now! how the liquid is black you know they never came back lol

  • oh man, I just found all your videos. I think I know what I'll be doing for the next six hours.

  • peer pressure a single lone ant would never have the balls to do this

  • Wait can you plant these in you yard in say new york?

  • Once my friend planted a bunch of these under a hornets nest, 4 months later, that nest was void of life....Ha.. good times ;)

  • Lol this is like if I kept throwing kentucky fried chicken at you

  • What would happen if.... You would stick your finger in that juice? lol

  • i bet if u grew bud ur garden would be awesome

  • lol 1:18

Ant 1: "Get out of here, it's my plant!!"

Ant 2: "No way man, it's mine!!"

Ant 1: "Fine, you can have it, see if I care."

    Ant 2: "MUUUAAAGGAHAHGAHAAAa.a.aaahAHaa..." *dead*

  • guess u planted ths plant under a dead carcass?

  • That's the biggest colony of Heliamphora I've ever seen! What are your growing specs? I'm very impressed.

  • it's a never ending buffet!

  • what do the little red things at the top of the plants do?

  • Do these things smell bad? How long is life expectancy?

  • how did u get heliamphora? how do u get all those carnivorous plants. the nurserys never have these types of plants and then u grow them to the size of a human???

    How????

  • gah i came to see bugs falling into their deaths and drowning -.- not watch them feed happily , that plant is acting likes its freggun christmas giveaway >:[

  • hey piranha boy? i just ordered the pitcher plant "dana's delight" or whatever and its mid fall and im afraid that it wont have enough time to root before the snow and freezing comes. i heard they just grow back in the spring but would it survive if its still adolecent? also in nebraska theres dramatic temerature shifts, could be 70 one day and 30 the next. anyways please help!

  • @bartman464 if you want you can buy a bright compact fluorescent or other bright light and grow it all winter long. then acclimate it in the spring and it'll then be fine outside

  • lol those ants can climb back out wtf

  • Nature needs to make a plant that traps mosquitoes. Worthless insects.

  • @GhostIntoTheFog i have to disagree. mosquitoes and other biting flies are the protectors of the wild lands. i work in the field and have been attacked by thousands at a time, cursing and swatting them but still appreciate the fact they keep many careless and littering people from spoiling the landscapes

  • @Piranhaboy01 the guy has a point.

  • @Piranhaboy01 thats what guns are for ...

  • @Piranhaboy01 true. fleas on the other hand are worthless organisms.

  • Comment removed

  • @Piranhaboy01 LOL you really appreciate that. especially the fact that they keep you and everyone else from enjoying said landscape. mesquitoes are natures disease spreading 'pricks'

  • @drmanly08 nice plant btw

  • @GhostIntoTheFog Don't imagine it 's all that hard, probably should be some sort of large disc of a leaf or something with a fluid that looks and smells to the insects like water, then when the females go to lay their eggs they get trapped in it and get digested.

  • @GhostIntoTheFog the centranella makes them stay away but no sceeter death xD

  • @GhostIntoTheFog i know its hard to hear this, but without mosquitoes there will be a chain reaction in a vary negative way. they are a big part of the food chain.

  • @DRcaprice It would balance itself out, species go extinct every day and everything else will just change around it.

  • Where did you obtain these? How old are they?

  • all you can eat bugs!

  • this is the cutest pest control yet XD

  • is that a H. chimantensis ?

  • @DJSamization H. heterodoxa x nutans

  • Such a well grown specimen. How do you do it?

  • @YOUCANNOTDENY for some reason this plant is one of the easiest I have grown yet. it's surviving in a small bit of moss which i keep as wet as possible. i also spray the pitchers with clean water to mimic rainfall. during the summer it's growing outside until the fall makes me put it in my cool basement where it still gets a drowning..

  • Will someone post the time at which one of these flies fall in? My eyes are starting to hurt trying to find one. Thanks!

  • HEY DO YOU HAVE ANY FOR SALE

  • i think scientists should try to give these plants muscles through genetic modification so they can walk around and munch flies on the move xD

  • @bananasquads But then they'll become Triffids!

  • why doesnt my new pitcher plants's pitcher have no water??

  • I wonder if these guys would've taken care of our fruit fly problem.

  • @yuumeko definitely. fruit flies are attracted to the smell and slip easily into the trap. a large Drosera multifida, or staghorn sundew will also clean house.

  • also, this looks wicked, i gunna get one put it in my greenhouse to stop fruit flies ruining all my strawberries

  • You're killing innocent bugs, whaaa, cry, sob, Boo Who, whaaa, LOL...PETA SUCKS

  • @PetrifiedFungus yea i agree

  • @PetrifiedFungus PETA still created an awesome name:

    P.eople

    E.ating

    T.asty

    A.nimals

    ;DD

  • @PetrifiedFungus im only fine if its doing something that would happen in nature, sensless beating of animals is just plain heartless

  • @playingwithfirehurts I would have to agree

  • its nice to watch these nature videos without hearing annoying commentary good vids hope to see more

  • Its funny how ant after ant falls into that pitcher. I have feeling they laid an "Alarm" phermone and all the ants are reacting to it.

  • I want one they are beutiful :) ... and flying ants like our kitchen and I cant seem to get rid of them :(...

  • @klaafamily these plants are ant specialists. if i put the plant on an ant nest, the traps get filled in one day so i only put it there for a couple hours to theoretically they will work BUT the plant will most likely not survive your kitchen environment

  • @Piranhaboy01 dang it oh well geuss I will have to stick to ant poison

  • @klaafamily why don't you try a Nepenthes? most are large enough to devour hundreds of ants. i got an ant infestation last fall from a potted plant but the ants completely disappeared within about two months. there were ants in the hundred or so pitchers in my plants. (they even devoured my ladybug pest controls) :P

  • @Piranhaboy01 thanks :)

  • Someone should place one here!

  • Question what would happen if you turned the plant upside down and all the stuff fell out how long would it be for it to replenish it all

  • What kind of climate could this grow in? It seems like it would be useful in a garden.

  • Wow big grown!

  • 2:10 "shit man u are on ur own" xD

  • is it possible for the entire plant to get devoured by bugs?

  • im gonna go watcha venus fly trap afta this

  • i wonder if i had my house surrounded by these would it make for good pest control

  • sure if u wana get eaten lol if there oversized u should get venus flytraps but they prob eat u too

  • i love these carnivorous plants, they're so fascinating to watch

  • Wow, gorgeous heliamphora indeed!

  • Feeding Frenzy lolol

  • how do you keep it at highland conditions and sustain it's cool night time temp when indoors? I'm growing some neps and want to get cobra lilies and heliamphora, but can't figure an affordable way to guarantee night time drop...

  • timed AC.

  • yeah, but that is a bulky and highly expensive venture. If it is how he does it then i appreciate the answer, but If piranhaboy has another trick up his sleeve I'd love to hear it.

  • @maddcatone have you tried something like a disused water cooler? I was thinking of rigging one up to drip on the moss when i set up the greenhouse. that'll help your cobra and heliamphora but highland neps expect cool leaves

  • @Piranhaboy01 No, actually I hadn't thought of that. That's a great idea. I'll see what I can find at the bottling plant tomorrow! Cheers! Oh, and my night time temp drop has been a success, but we'll see how true that is this summer lol

  • why?

  • @maddcatone i grow mine in the basement under 400 w high pressure sodium lamps where they warm up during the day and the temp always drops a bit, not quite highland but in the winter it gets damn chilly. it's working for my N. villosa and N. lowii very well. i also spray from above like a rainstorm every two days or more.

  • where r u bye it

  • It's amazing how nature works, beautiful but lethal

  • ants and flys crawl in and out, i didnt think they were supposed to get out. I like the venus fly trap, they dont get out.

  • You obviously have no idea what you're on about. What's a few plants going to do compared to industrial application of insecticides and human development and pollution?

  • BUFFET! XD

  • Onomnomnomnomnom

  • impresionante!

  • How many years have you been growing this Heliamphora?

  • Lol My friend did that

  • Um did what?

  • I was replying to a comment and my friend typed "the pussy" lol.

  • Let the plant do it's the pussy?

    Wow

    Hahahaha

  • I didnt put that.....i was showing the vid of the plant to my friend and he posted that comment when i went to piss

  • dude i soo need one 4 all the friggin flys that show up n other random annoying bugs that show up in my yard cause of our mint plants n neglected to cut (to ur knees) grass

  • One thing you should keep in mind though is that carnivorous plants are bug magnets. They give off scents that attract bugs for them to eat. They don't catch all of the bugs they attract.

  • 0:56 the one green big on the right an insect goes straight in

  • awesome video! i have the same exact species and it is fascinating to watch them capture insects! 5/5.

  • I hope it grew alot after that meal :)

Can't wait util summer, then there will be more insects for my plants... now, there are nearly none

  • ohh soo beautiful i love this plant <3

  • Nice! I live in malaysia so I don't really need a terrarium. Its kinda handy XD

  • How do you get yours to live, when ever i buy any carniverus plants they always die :(

  • whatever you do dont feed it every day, carniverous plants often overeat and die easily. I'd suggest buying a terrarium to help make sure your conditions are best for the plant (also only water with distilled water)

  • Well his is eating quite a bit and it looks very healthy. Let the plant do its t h e p u s s y

  • dont feed fly traps every day they run out of traps

  • i love carnivorous plants, this one is a sweet looking plant. i want one, and a venus fly trap, just so i can watch it

  • Hey, are you from a Tepui? Very nice plant!

  • it looks like that plant is very smelly xD, i would like one :D

  • It actually smells like a rose plant. A nice subtle fragrance, believe it or not...

  • What is this species?? an hybrid?

It is very beautiful! nice plant!

  • This hybrid is a Heliamphora heterodoxa x nutans. Thanks for your nice compliments. :)

  • Wouaa!

    Your plant is... so big!!!

    Congratulation!!

  • Don't feed it a mouse I like mousies, plus the mouse might gnaw through the plant lol

  • I wonder if some kid ever tried to drink the juices to see if they would trip or get high??

  • you definatley wouldnt get any type of high, heliamphora dont even produce digestive enzymes of thier own to break down their meals.

  • I wonder, if you would die if you drank that wierd digestive liquid....

  • Congrats!... but you're not s'posed to be putting hot soup in 'em!! XD

  • These plants are too small yet to catch a mouse, at least mine are. In the wild they may get large enough but they typically catch insects and other small animals only. Other than that, a mouse may decay whereas it becomes digested by the Nepenthes. It may be worth an experiment if mine gets large enough.

  • It's just over three years old now. They seem to get larger in pitcher size and diameter of plant. They form extensive clumps of tightly packed pitchers such that anything that falls into the space of the plant is caught.

  • The more i research and think about Heliamphoras, the more I want one so bad! They look like a very interesting type of Pitcher Plant. I'm gardening in the spring around Mothers' Day, would it be safe to plant any CP's in my garden or would it harm my plants? Nice video btw :)

  • You will need to put them in non-draining pots and keep them full of water. They have huge demands for water outside, particularly in the sun. They will grow outside all year long if it doesn't freeze. It can get cold. Mine have tasted 1-2 degrees Celsius (33 F) with only minor damage. They need protection from intense heat. Simple screening.

Don't let garden soil touch these plants. They will die overnight.

  • I find this plant is not demanding whatsoever although I thought it would be. I keep in mind the torrential downpours it would encounter and the sparse mossy clump alongside a puddle of water it might be growing in. I give it bright light (sunlight is best but not too hot in summer) and spray it with my pump-type sprayer. I'll let the traps fill to overflowing and soak the moss. It's responding very well with two new flower shoots coming up at the moment.

  • To continue... it is growing indoors at the moment although I leave it outside all summer. It likes cool nights and bright, warm days. It's designed to catch as much rain as possible and appreciates rainfalls. During the winter it is grown under 400W HPS lamps alongside my highland and ultrahighland Nepenthes.

  • I'm actually finding this plant much easier to take care of than the Cephalotus. I actually have them growing alongside each other. This heliamphora is actually so resilient it has traps over two years old still working fine. It is now sending up two flower shoots which should have 5 or 6 flowers each.
