  • Tarzanija!

  • goddamn can japan play some good jazz or what?

  • vendredi 16 decembre 20h11 lovers records party au yummy sushi (grenoble) avec dj moolinex et monsieur dino !!!

  • cool 8-)

  • so swagg japan. so swagg.

  • So does the pimp compose the music and let them play it how he wants it to sound like?

  • That guy is the most bad ass of the Japs.

  • They are the meanest Jazz mother f.....s, I love them :D

  • Just listening to them makes me wanna play with them, keep up the good work.

  • As a guitarist, I can easily say this is the best lead singer I've ever heard!

  • SICCCCKK PIANOOOO SOLO!!!!!!!!!!

  • Well, Sasho is the animator. He hypes up the crowd. He doesn't do shit on the videos, because, well, there's no crowd.

  • Tsssssss, awsome!!!

  • Haha, does the pimp remind anyone else of the dancing suit guy from the mighty mighty bosstones?

  • @rfloodric Interesting story how that happened. When they were younger their friend came to see them at a bar, and the owner wouldnt let him in because he was under 21, so the Mighty Mighty Bosstones said hes part of the band. Since then hes gone to all their shows as the dancer on stage

  • Thank you very much for this !

    It Is awsome :)

  • Thumbs up if you saw them performed at Ebisu Garden 2 years ago

  • That´s true "death jazz"!!!

    love this guys...

  • São incríveis!!!!!!!! ^o^

  • Wow so good

  • Only in Japan !

  • Sounds a bit like Horace Silver's band from the 60's Or...The Jazz Crusaders from the same time period. Very nice!

  • Saw these guys in Belgium! Or was it Holland? It's all a haze, but I got their cd and shirt! One of the only times I literally jumped to the beat at a live performance in a room.

  • Good stuff. They're pretty well-rounded, and the pimp cracks me up.

  • Were coming man

  • shachou is such a badass!!

  • @unfuckingavailable - I listened to them solid all day yesterday - moderately fatiguing;) the pimp had a little sound fx thing he was tweaking at womad - delay, filters....anyone know?

  • 20 people missed the like button

  • Just saw them at Womad.

    Fucking amazing!

  • These guys killed at Womad. I want all my jazz with a pimp now.

  • @drongomala yessss. totally agree, my friend who loves metal dragged me there becuaseit was called 'death jazz' and HATED it but it was BRILLIANT. one of the best there

  • @drongomala Womad, as in WOMADelaide, South Australia, if so which year? Cheers. If so then i shall be committing suicide for missing them.

  • Pianist is amazing, and the others are very very talented. But the singer is a little unnecessary. ^^

  • @nessoh77 singer? you mean the "PIMP" sessioner.

  • so pimp.

  • This group is fucking magic

  • when i grow up I wanna be an agitator.

  • sbav!

  • LOS AMO, LOS AMO, LOS AMOOOOOOO

  • i LOVE these guys! just goes to show you that music is UNIVERSAL! who cares about ethnicity or which ethnic group originally developed a certain genre of music...if you can feel it in your soul and you're passionate about learning to play it...you can make an authentic jam in that genre. screw ethnicity! music is music!

  • ATTN: Anime faggots. THIS is Japan. This is what Japan is fucking about. Not your shitty animation, voices and shitty 8 year old girl cartoons.

  • Uh.. what part of Japan do you live in? I've never seen anything like this in any of the clubs I hit, and um.. since when did bebop originate in Japan?

I'm not denying that I love these guys. They're fucking AWESOME, and have some incredible skills.

Anyway, don't bother responding. I'd hate to sully my reputation on a troll such as yourself.

  • There are thousands of amazing japanese musicians, in somw way, his right, on the other hand, this music genre is obviously not from Japan.

So both of you are kinda right.

  • Are you calling out Anime characters? That's intense.

  • whoa whoa now. settle down their chief. You know these guys did the OP to an anime right? Michiko to Hatchin, check it out and chill out.

  • I like watching the pimp walk around and checking out his jazz hoes

  • that is an INSANE piano solo... he is on another level all together

  • damn good jazz

  • It's Soil and "PIMP", not soul.

  • It's so much soil but even more pimp, he could've said xD

I love them though. Best jazz ever.

  • there was much soul but even more pimp. that was great :)

  • Leave it to the Japanese to do REAL high-energy jazz.

  • Nice bass solo! :D one note did it all. kay actually two notes.. but still!

  • lol yeah that part made me laugh.

    Great track!

  • I buy it now, penist very good

  • hehe

  • people tend to waste too much time in pointless discussions.. Soil & "PIMP" Sessions are a nice jazzclub band with some nice, upbeat and full of energy songs. And the thing that matters the least is where they come from.. music is an universal language.

If you like them try listing to Five Corners Quintet, Nicola Conte, Quantic, Jabberloop

  • Some dumb ass has a problem with a Japan Jazz Band...

They rocks and that's the point, stop talkin' shit pleaze .

    And listen The Seatbelts too.

  • hu cares where they from its about the music they make and they have tat feel

  • sorry kids, i have to be a little rude- saw the pimps on stage two days ago in düsseldorf -didnt know anything about them- they know how to play their instruments all right-- their music is main stream fusion from the seventies- retro jazz maybe- nothing to be mad about- this or that way- the dressed up monkey in front takes away the tension- its just silly - attitude music is in? ok and i dont give a fuck where they come from- why not from japan? forget the pimps- listen to the music

  • They were at the north sea jazz 2007 - 2008 and 2009. They were AMAZING!!

  • Does anyone knows the name of the song they kind of reproduce at 2:01?

  • You may be thinking of "Tighten Up" by Archie Bell & the Drells.

  • Thanks for the answer.

I checked it out but I'm not so sure that's exactly the tune I mean but it was indeed quite similar.

The tune from which Soil and PIMP takes a fragment is actually instrumental and it was very popular in the 70's....even used as a presentation music in some radio-program.

Perhaps some friend of yours might probably identify that melody? The quest continues anyway.

  • Kickin' ass! BEen a bit since I've heard such energetic tunes. Frontman's fucking hilarious, too.

  • THIS is the kind of Japenese culture people should be getting into. Enough with anime and videogames.

  • I have no idea what that second-to-last sentence is supposed to mean and why you flew off the handle at me since -I'm- one of the people who's tired of Japan being known only as the country of anime and agrees that it has a rich and amazing history leading up to WW2.

  • why would you say "japanese culture people should get into"? - by saying that, you underline that more japanese people should play more jazz and read less manga. Not people should change their mind about japenese culture. And i disagree, if people are stupid enough only to know about japanese culture as anime, it would be a waste spending time on them.

  • No, I meant this is the kind of thing people -outside- of Japan should pay attention to for once, not that everyone in Japan should do jazz. You misunderstood me.

  • You don't get what he was trying to say, do you? He was saying that people who like Japanese culture should look into stuff like this AS WELL AS anime+videogames.

Unfortunatly, many people consider themselves 'experts' of Japanese culture because they've watched a lot of anime, yet don't know anything about Japan outside of what they see in anime.

  • An Englishman, a Dane, and an American have a conversation about anime ladies and gentlemen!

Seriously though, you guys are all dumb as shit, since when was Jazz part of Japanese culture?

  • since the early 1930s. and since when has anime- and manga-culture to be so special in japanese cultural context? cartoons and comics, that's it, nothing more, nothing less. is any chinese man trained in shaolin kungfu? do you have to be of african-american descent to make jazz or hiphop? we are the ones who exotify stuff like that. jazz is music and music is the language of all people. love it or leave it.

  • And all Americans are fat and eat cheeseburgers all day while watching pro wrestling according to my Japanese friends. lol

  • Considering this is a good replication by some Japanese musicians of American music, I'd say some questions are bound to arise.

Most Americans aren't aware of the breadth and sophistication of Japanese culture nor should they be. And the Japanese really don't give a damn.

What's odd is why you, a Dane, are rushing to the defense and praise of Japan?

  • What's the guy with the cigars job in the band? Look at people, point at them, and talk in the mic whenever he feels like it?

Serious questions because I want a job like that that requires such minimal effort. Fucking awesome.

  • He's "The Agitator" he's the band leader to a point and the vocalist.

  • because he's a weeaboo?

  • Japanese jazz is right up there with Canadian jazz in terms of being great.

  • Canadian jazz does own

  • Hat guy barely does anything but he's my favourite xD

I'm gonna look them up on Wikipedia so I know their names and stuff

  • fuck yea

  • Hell yes.

  • my thoughts exactly

  • KICKASS

  • Haha the pimp hat man RULES

  • More bands need frontmen who don't do anything except walk around and look awesome.

  • @forebodingburger Were coming

  • @forebodingburger that frontman is the main guy man..... he writes music.

  • @forebodingburger

    doode, most bands actually have...

  • @forebodingburger Actually he does write all the music.

  • I should've found this band sooner. This is fucking awesome.

  • Wow did not knew them but they play with energy....I like it...I will see them on the NorthSeaJazz in Rotterdam 2009....looking forward to see them live !

  • Man, those guys played here in lower bavaria some weeks ago and I missed them! SHIT!

  • hahha this is always funny how that fatty japanese guy walk around and smokin sigar and tellin or pointin what they need to do hahah wandering haha owned

  • Nippon music has the same (Some times more than) U.K. quality.

I recommend Karisome Maiden [Death Jazz Version] with my dreamed woman Yumiko 'Ringo' Shiina.

  • damn good! on JJF 2009, full of energy!!!!

  • yeah, great performance@ Java Jazz Festival 2009... so damn cool !!!

  • Damn, just came back from Java Jazz watching them live, and hell, that's one of the most exciting performance I've ever heard on the festival -and I've been there every single year.

  • yeah... it's awesome man... i watched it too... did they do the encore?? cause after the last song i ran to watch ron king big band..

  • No, sadly they didn't do the encore. They have to prepare for Malique, whose performance turn out to be really bad

  • I got to take a picture with them at the sultan hotel, late night well after all the performances are done.

  • they're gonna be live in Indonesia on the 8th of march! YEEHAW!

  • Pimp Master

  • no one knows that tune at 2.01? i heard this song first then the original one on radio at the post office today!! i love that riff!! who is the band please??

  • Does anyone knows the name of the melody that the trumpet and sax play at 2:01....right after the piano solo?

    Thanks in advance.

  • yeah thats def mccoy trademark haha, dude was mad percussive

  • Fantastic tune with a great energy!

I'd appreciate if someone tell me name of the melody the wind instruments start at 2:01, right after the piano solo.

I used to hear that song back in the 70's but don't remember the group's name.

  • This band has to be one of the best jazz groups that I've heard in a while, and what's more amazing is that they're style is influenced by Brazilian Bossa Nova. All the while, being Japanese. It's very great to hear this music. Props to them.

  • awesome!!!

  • the guy in black just walking around is called the agitator. see them live and you know why.

  • the coolest cats in the music industry, I love this sound love it I tell yah.

  • part of the image lol, i think its great havin a guy in a suit wonderin round smokin a fat cigar :) such a cool band, LOVE IT

  • Dude i was looking for this kind of music since a long time now im happy now ...i just love it.

  • He is the President man, the band would lose so much without him. He agitates!

  • Wow, that pianist sounds way too much like McCoy. He even stole McCoy's lick. :s But still, this music is too much. Is so amazing. xD

  • who is McCoy?

  • Oh, McCoy Tyner. He worked a lot with John Coltrane. A lick that the pianist in this video used (hitting the low root, then playing a chords in the right hand) was McCoy's trademark. :P I'm just being stupid and snobish. x)

  • Thanks For the info. Can you recommend any tunes from them that I should check out? I'm just starting to get into jazz, thanks to Soil and "pimp" sessions infectiousness, I'd appreciate some suggestions.:)

  • Listen to all of their tracks. Its very good music. Jazz is very nice music, but this jazz sounds a lot like Bossa Nova. Maybe you should check that out.

  • Same here actually, I had NO idea I could find jazz attractive.

  • yeah, i dont think one pianist can trademark hitting a root then a chord.. thats the main core of piano playing.

  • Um, not really. It's not just that. It's hard to explain, but I think there's this video that shows how to do it right. Literally, if I didn't know any better, I would think that McCoy was playing.

Anyway, you can believe what you like. I honestly couldn't care less.

  • Every single pianist in the world does that pumpkin XD

  • love

  • not normally into jazz but.............

  • man these guys are good I wish they come to the US
