  • i soooo wanted to be on this show as a kid and i cried when it was replaced with that VR bulls%$t. Bring it back !

  • I swear...i m 14 now.. I can remember my mom putting this on from the tapes she'd kept when I was about 5 or 6..It was the most amazing thing ever. And tbh I'm happily sat here; half past 9 on a sunday night, watching from the first episode to where we are now. This, desert forge, and fort boyard. By far the best TV shows made.

  • OMG no medieval jester would ever say 'Okay'! He would say 'very well', or something more old-fashioned.

  • Best kids gameshow ever ... The almost always lost!

  • "From Sunderland" - tempted to make a joke here seeing as my family are from Newcastle, but I shall resist.

I wish I could go back in time and go on that show. It would be interesting...

  • Olgarth's Advice: "The password for this level is the maiden's name."

  • Olgarth's Third: Time and tide wait for no man, yet one substance will measure it for him. Name it!

    A. Sand

  • Olgarth's Second: Who is the Giant of the Greenwood?

    A. Little John

  • Olgarth's First: It is born of an egg, yet its mother never feeds it. A song it sings, but only two notes ever lead it. What is it?!

    A. Cuckoo

  • I'm sorry Martin, but looking at Gretel I would say that she definately looks more fun to play with...

  • A quartet of Geordies..not much gope to begin with, really, was there??

  • @mistofoles Geordies are from Newcastle, not Sunderland. Important distinction if you ever visit. :)

  • @LeeCarl1974 People from Sunderland are called Mackems, aren't they?

  • "Before you stands, and dances too, the fool of all the word! Folly is my name, and folly is my nature! Foolishness my character, and fun my alma mater! What's your name?"

    ..."Martin."

  • Orc?!?!!

  • @suffiice We actually thought he was referring to the tree, and gave "Oak" as the answer. It's just the accent that makes it sound like 'Orc'

  • ZACK DINGLE @ 1.08 ?...............

  • sept 1988 i remember it well ! love this show through the mists of time.

  • Folly is annoying.

  • I was dissappointed that in all 8 series of Knightmare, they never had a team from Sheffield.

  • Woah, i didn't realise fellow Sunderland guys had been on this show. I wish i had been, but i was only 8 when this started.

  • she is a maiden sort of a maid.

Nowadays, she would just be called FIT.

  • you really get the feeling the kids didnt want to be there

  • seems a good tv show.

  • that life force was going well quick!

  • "Or my name's not Richard the Lionheart, actually its not Richard the anything! hoo, hoo, hoo. Let me introduce myself- before you stands, and dances too, the fool of all the world. Folly is my name and folly is my nature, foolish is my character and fun is my alphameta-- hoohoo and what's your name then young dungeoneer?"

    "Martin"

  • Ok, as a Nottingham resident i'll admit that second riddle even threw me, but the answer 'Orc' as something from Sherwood forest gives me much amusement ^^

  • Geez, did those kids have guns to their heads or what? Liven up a little, will ya?

  • Wasn't there an American show like this but with a video game theme instead?

  • Nick Arcade?

  • I Think it was Nick Arcade. Nick Arcade was video-game themed. Maybe it was that or Video Power.

  • @Tronn73 Nick Arcade had chroma key sequences similar to Knightmare but they were 2 dimensional. And Psygnosis (of Wipeout fame) worked on the games they played too!

  • How did you get a thumbs up for that?

  • Lot of strange folk out there it seems. Or at least the one who gave me it.

  • That timer is ruthless. He went from just eating some food to red in under 15 seconds

  • Yeah, what is that about? One minute he's on green the next minute he's gone. Why does that happen?

  • I saw a "making-of" this series of Knightmare years ago. The wall monster was made with a pair of underpants, padded out with sponge and soaked in grey ink!

  • 0:54. Theres a Masonic twin headed eagle on the wall. The conspiricy theorists will have a field day!

  • loovvvvvve it so much! i used to watch it all the time as a kid... along with maid marrion lol :)

  • hey, those guys are from my home city. I must have missed this episode as a kid.

  • My god I remember this in my childhood! I loved this show!

  • Fuckin hell its john scott (trippy john) hahahahahaha. Hes well changed!

  • HAHAHA what a belta! I rememberd about this show, and the lads are from sunderland same as me. odds of that lol

  • Come on maccums! :)

Awesome show, and thanks to the guy commenting earlier - it's amazing to hear. :)

  • Wish I was young again without a care in the world!! This working thing isnt all what its cracked up to be!!

  • i know m8 when your young to cant wait to leave school but when u do u find out just how easy we had it ,love knightmare allways reminds be coming home from school dark nights run up to chrimbo happy days.

  • They should of took the bottle in the end

  • "where am i?" - my response = BOMB ROOM GET THE FUCK OUTTA THERE!

  • I quite liked Folly...did a good job

  • What a stupid TWAT Folly was and what a releeif that Mottley took his place.

  • I drink in the same pub as folly(alec) in Edinburgh, he's quite a nice bloke.

  • I am quite sure he is in real life, but in the show he is just annoying. Sorry but I don't think anything else. Give me grief if you like, but I don't care.

  • great show

  • You can see why they ended up getting rid of Folly, he came across like something out of "A Clockwork Orange", his insanity I'm sure to many children of the time was misunderstood as something more sinister. A slow start to the series here, but then new quests always start off as such, they've taken the successful elements of season 1 and embellished upon them. Still just as cruel about killing off quests with the shortest ever dungeon trek of ten minutes taking place in this series.

  • I love it how not a single team actually won in the entire first season:) It's like a roguelike: where the more attempts you make, the closer you come.

I totally agree with Psycho: this is one of the few shows I have ever seen that does not shy away from being harsh: from defeating the good guys, from making the game unwinnable if you make the right decision.

Plus, it's super fun to guess the answers to the riddles, and what items should be picked:)

    Awesome, awesome show.

  • Ooooo Nasty....

  • yes

  • I remembering getting excited the day the 2nd series started up. Once school finished for the day, I ran home very fast to get my dinner and watch it. I almost got run down by a car that was turning into a lane that I was about running past at the same moment, but luckily for me there was a lamppost on the corner and I grabbed that and swung round it as the car came into the lane. They stopped too, the woman pulled down the window and said to me, "You were very lucky!" She didn't look happy.

  • what did they win serisoly

  • Ooh! More atmospheric than series 1 already!

  • They should remake this (not that rubbish CGI thing, keep the helmet of justice because that is what makes the show good). This is exactly the sort of show that could have cashed in on the millennium. The thing is these days you could make a lot more money out of it from computer games and such so it would offset a lot of the cost.

  • Folly is my favourite character in knightmare

he wants to play with her XD

  • Damn Helmet of Blindness.

  • Folly wants to "play" with her.

    Oh yeah...

  • Argh! this is me! I thought this had vanished into the mists of time but here it is.

I was only 14 and really stupid. Still, we got 3 nights in a top hotel in Norwich which was quite good.

    Lee

  • Were there dead obvious pauses when you played the game, like when they reset the player's position in the blue/greenroom? Surely it didn't run this quickly during production, right?

  • That sequence there (about 15 mins?) took about three days to shoot - every time we got through a door it was cut and the new room set up, so we'd go off to the canteen.

Really weird watching Treguard eating fish and chips at the next table to use. He flicked peas at us once. Nice bloke actually.

  • I wondered what he was like. Any chance you got to meet that pretty maid, Gretel?

  • Nah. I think at the time I was a bit too young to appreciate her. :)

  • Lee, we know where you lived. LOL (They named it in the beginning.)

But these riddles get hard. It's not stupidity, you were just not wise enough. And at least you got two right at the riddle stop. This looks like it was fun.

  • Aww, but you made your mark on history!

  • Sounds like it was fun, away

  • That was the prize?

  • Yeah. All you got to take away was scrolls, a silver coster (if you won) And the experiance. Remember, they're only kids, So the experiance is a gift that may well still be with them today.

  • We are evidence of that gift. 20 years later we are still talking about 1 of the few shows which did not shy away from being difficult and be happy with more losers then victors. Winning this show was surely an achievement.

  • That's probably why you only won a silver coster: The achievement is so damn great, that you didn't need much more, Right?

  • I would agree. In the last few series they pgraded to smaller trophies which was probably ore suitable. But is something you can keep forever. In France they won computer game consoles though I think

  • Well, that's a first: The french being better then the english.

    (Sorry, Policical joke.)

  • Good to hear from you Lee :) Tough luck on this one but I bet it was loads of fun to do. Thanks to all who made it possible to see these again. Knightmare is a special memory from my childhood :)

  • @LeeCarl1974 you really were there, on Knightmare. What was it like? I really wanted to go on there but when season 8 finished i was only 1 :(

Why can't they bring it back? It was the only game show which i really liked when i was young. Know i'm in college and i'm still watching it. BRING IT BACK!

  • @MrTNAJW Cheers for making me feel really old. hahahah.. It was great, not at all the same when you see all the cameras and leads and sound equipment around you while they're filming it,, but still a great memory, Still think seeing the dungeon master having fish and chips in the Anglia studio canteen was a bit weird though. :)

  • @LeeCarl1974 would of thought that tregar eating cod and chips thought he'd be more of a pie man

  • @LeeCarl1974 I use to love this show back in the day.

You must of had an experience that you would never forget, I would have loved to of been on this show.

Brings back memories, where would we be without youtube?

  • @LeeCarl1974 how does it work then? how long does it take to set up a new room? what happens when you exit a room? does a stage hand move you off somewhere?

  • wow, i was hoping straight into the bomb room in the first bit lol, would have been interesting

  • how many long time this game of tv show

  • I did'nt know you done season 2 as well :) I remember watching this every friday at 4.45.

keep up the good work :)

  • Gary Garratt 4 The New Yars Honours List!

    Nice work :D

  • omg it's finally up... gonna love this.

  • So you've got Series 2 as well, magnificent! I vividly recall quickly making my way home from school every Friday during the autumn months just to be able to see this.

The remarkable thing is that unlike most childhood TV memories, this is actually no less "cool" when seen once again as a 27-year old. Keep it up :)
