I swear...i m 14 now.. I can remember my mom putting this on from the tapes she'd kept when I was about 5 or 6..It was the most amazing thing ever. And tbh I'm happily sat here; half past 9 on a sunday night, watching from the first episode to where we are now. This, desert forge, and fort boyard. By far the best TV shows made.
"Before you stands, and dances too, the fool of all the word! Folly is my name, and folly is my nature! Foolishness my character, and fun my alma mater! What's your name?"
"Or my name's not Richard the Lionheart, actually its not Richard the anything! hoo, hoo, hoo. Let me introduce myself- before you stands, and dances too, the fool of all the world. Folly is my name and folly is my nature, foolish is my character and fun is my alphameta-- hoohoo and what's your name then young dungeoneer?"
Ok, as a Nottingham resident i'll admit that second riddle even threw me, but the answer 'Orc' as something from Sherwood forest gives me much amusement ^^
@Tronn73 Nick Arcade had chroma key sequences similar to Knightmare but they were 2 dimensional. And Psygnosis (of Wipeout fame) worked on the games they played too!
I saw a "making-of" this series of Knightmare years ago. The wall monster was made with a pair of underpants, padded out with sponge and soaked in grey ink!
i know m8 when your young to cant wait to leave school but when u do u find out just how easy we had it ,love knightmare allways reminds be coming home from school dark nights run up to chrimbo happy days.
I am quite sure he is in real life, but in the show he is just annoying. Sorry but I don't think anything else. Give me grief if you like, but I don't care.
You can see why they ended up getting rid of Folly, he came across like something out of "A Clockwork Orange", his insanity I'm sure to many children of the time was misunderstood as something more sinister. A slow start to the series here, but then new quests always start off as such, they've taken the successful elements of season 1 and embellished upon them. Still just as cruel about killing off quests with the shortest ever dungeon trek of ten minutes taking place in this series.
I love it how not a single team actually won in the entire first season:) It's like a roguelike: where the more attempts you make, the closer you come.
I totally agree with Psycho: this is one of the few shows I have ever seen that does not shy away from being harsh: from defeating the good guys, from making the game unwinnable if you make the right decision.
Plus, it's super fun to guess the answers to the riddles, and what items should be picked:)
I remembering getting excited the day the 2nd series started up. Once school finished for the day, I ran home very fast to get my dinner and watch it. I almost got run down by a car that was turning into a lane that I was about running past at the same moment, but luckily for me there was a lamppost on the corner and I grabbed that and swung round it as the car came into the lane. They stopped too, the woman pulled down the window and said to me, "You were very lucky!" She didn't look happy.
They should remake this (not that rubbish CGI thing, keep the helmet of justice because that is what makes the show good). This is exactly the sort of show that could have cashed in on the millennium. The thing is these days you could make a lot more money out of it from computer games and such so it would offset a lot of the cost.
Were there dead obvious pauses when you played the game, like when they reset the player's position in the blue/greenroom? Surely it didn't run this quickly during production, right?
That sequence there (about 15 mins?) took about three days to shoot - every time we got through a door it was cut and the new room set up, so we'd go off to the canteen.
Really weird watching Treguard eating fish and chips at the next table to use. He flicked peas at us once. Nice bloke actually.
Lee, we know where you lived. LOL (They named it in the beginning.)
But these riddles get hard. It's not stupidity, you were just not wise enough. And at least you got two right at the riddle stop. This looks like it was fun.
Yeah. All you got to take away was scrolls, a silver coster (if you won) And the experiance. Remember, they're only kids, So the experiance is a gift that may well still be with them today.
We are evidence of that gift. 20 years later we are still talking about 1 of the few shows which did not shy away from being difficult and be happy with more losers then victors. Winning this show was surely an achievement.
I would agree. In the last few series they pgraded to smaller trophies which was probably ore suitable. But is something you can keep forever. In France they won computer game consoles though I think
Good to hear from you Lee :) Tough luck on this one but I bet it was loads of fun to do. Thanks to all who made it possible to see these again. Knightmare is a special memory from my childhood :)
@LeeCarl1974 you really were there, on Knightmare. What was it like? I really wanted to go on there but when season 8 finished i was only 1 :(
Why can't they bring it back? It was the only game show which i really liked when i was young. Know i'm in college and i'm still watching it. BRING IT BACK!
@MrTNAJW Cheers for making me feel really old. hahahah.. It was great, not at all the same when you see all the cameras and leads and sound equipment around you while they're filming it,, but still a great memory, Still think seeing the dungeon master having fish and chips in the Anglia studio canteen was a bit weird though. :)
@LeeCarl1974 how does it work then? how long does it take to set up a new room? what happens when you exit a room? does a stage hand move you off somewhere?
So you've got Series 2 as well, magnificent! I vividly recall quickly making my way home from school every Friday during the autumn months just to be able to see this.
The remarkable thing is that unlike most childhood TV memories, this is actually no less "cool" when seen once again as a 27-year old. Keep it up :)
i soooo wanted to be on this show as a kid and i cried when it was replaced with that VR bulls%$t. Bring it back !
