I merely pointed out that this video proves that they were not all Anti-Racist (as I so often hear). My other comments were directed at an earlier post stating that anti Pakistani sentiment was prevalent in UK society at the time and therefore was justified making it somehow not racist. I am American and i have been a Traditional Skinhead since 1982. I can tell you for a fact that in 1969/70 Skinheads listened to "skinhead Reggae" and they also refer to it as reggae at that time! Also, just for the record 'Yanks" are only Americans from the North East.

This doc does a great job dispelling all the preaching I hear about how 1960's skinheads were anti-racist. Straight from the horse's mouth we hear about how they HATE Pakistanis. My opinion is that the original skinhead movement was not necessarily an all out racist organization (like it later transformed into with the NF) but these were just mischievous youths who shared a similar taste in music and dress. Sometimes they shared racist views that were not so uncommon in society at the time.

@level2789 Yeah you're right. Racist attitudes at that time were just commonplace, it was almost taken for granted. 'Paki' jokes were told on the telly and dockers marched in support of Enoch Powell. 'Paki-bashing' by skinheads was widely reported in the papers but didn't attract the reaction it would today. In the late 70s society was changing and being a skinhead then became like joining a political party and saying 'I'm a racist'.

I was part of this scene (in the late 1960s when the documentary was made). Like the guy said at 5:30, by the age of 20 I had left it. I had nothing against Pakistanis, though - simply didn't have any occasion to mix with them. I remember when I saw this documentary, when it was first shown, what struck me was the honesty and lack of self-consciousness of the interviewees. I didn't necessarily agree 100% with everything said. At the time interviewing ordinary" working-class folk was fairly new.
