If any roadie strolled across the stage in front of me whilst I was playing and started stripping the stage, his ass would end up in the second row of the audience.
Great song and great muscians any good Rock and Roll band should have a sax player. I would love to get my hands on a good video of the Brothers in Arms show they did on Showtime.
I've always thought the royal, grand melodic style of the best british guitarists was due to Hank Marvin's influence.Wether it's Knopfler or Jeff Beck,Pete Townsend,Dave Edmunds or Johnny Marr - There a piece of Hank Marvin in every one of 'em.
@teamdebt I agree that the roadies rushing to remove mics and other stuff during the last tune is a bit unpolite, but that was what DS did during that tour, not only that gig. In Alchemy, they do the exact same thing. I guess it was their way of telling the audience that the show was REALLY over, no more encores...
Same here. I used to have the whole show on VHS. Has it been released on DVD? I'd love to own it again. This final song at the end was perfect. Mark Knopfler is one of the three greatest guitarists of our time. (In my opinion. )
po58dvn, sometimes I wish I wasn't an American. It isn't just that you clearly have a brain the size of a pencil eraser - though that is insulting to pencil erasers since they are actually useful - it is that you actually think you represent something of value when in fact your existence has even less influence on reality than the bush growing outside my office. What a mindless dolt - and apologies to those who think all Americans are like this, they're not.

the best bit is when they introduce hank and he nearly trips over......what a four eyed fucker........the usa have chet, jerry reed, scooty moore and were left with that daft looking cunt.....every time i pick up a guitar in this country they always fucking say...i bet you cant hank marvin stuff?...well yes i can but moved on after 10 weeks of learning as he is an utter bifocaled loser who made cliff a virgin to fanny as he shoved his four eyed cock up his 'pop' ass
You need to get some coolwind through your brains.
If you really believe that, if those guys are playing for a huge audience like that, things have been carefully rehearsed over an extensive period. There not like you! They work for a living, and very hard at it as well. Trust me I know!
I remember when they were showing this concert live on MTV. I recorded it on VHS and dubbed it to a cassette. Listened to it for years until it was stolen from my car around 1990. I grieved. Especially for this song. Years later, after the internet had evolved into what it has become, I was able to rediscover it. I still get wispy-eyed when I listen to this track, the beauty of the music and being reminded of that idealistic wide-eyed youth. Thank God for the world wide web!
Wow, that is fantastic. Where did you find this? It's pro shot, i wonder if there is a reel of the whole show. I'm guessing it was in the UK, possibly even at the Hammersmith Odeon??
Thanks for posting the vid, nice to see more vintage Straits.
Hank was seventy years old this week...and still gigging!

What's with the eager roadie. Someone should have decked him. Wait til the end of the song and don't be disrespectful.

I would MUCH prefer to hear this WITHOUT the sax. I agree with hotroddy69, it robs much from this performance.

In this video Hank has no idea about the song he's going to play... maybe he was invited without even telling him what was about.
