Good recipe; however, I always add in artichoke hearts and olives, sometimes ham. I find that without extras like the ones I said, it's kind of bland. Also, I like to cook it a little longer so it gets a little burnt, and the onions are carmelized. IT's good. Try it.
Really? I hear people use that term all the time here in the US...even chefs on TV say it that way...in that case then an "egg beater" would be bad English...but what else would you call it?
okay, I am not a native English speaker, but I am fairly sure, that "to beat eggs" is a widely used expression and it is not wrong in the least... i would even say that it is the most appropriate way of describing 'the action'...
@davidbeltra It is not wrong. I am a native English speaker, and we do in fact use the verb "to beat" for mixing eggs. Maybe his comment is that you said "and beat them" instead of "and beat the eggs"; I am not sure. Either way, what you said is not incorrect.
Nice work, we liked your video very much so we embedded it on ChefCommons w/ link back and reference to Youtube. (Let us know if you don't wish for it to be featured)
the typical tortilla de patatas is just that, potatoes, onion and eggs, but if you feel like it you can try to add many other ingredients, like other vegetables or even tiny bacon strings... that wouldn't be the standard tortilla but tastes great too!
thanks David! I was wondering approximately how long it takes to make the tortilla de patatas. It's almost 1pm here in Madrid right now, and wondered if I had enough to prepare one for lunch time at 2pm. wish me luck!
yeah of course, 1 hour is enough! 10 minutes to cut and prepare everything, 15-20 minutes to cook the potatos and onion (depending on the thikness and kind of potato) and then 5 minutes or so to cook it with the egg (depending again on the thickness of the tortilla) so as you see, 1 hour is way enough time! ;)
my girlfriend an I are going to Madrid for the first time in Jan and I was going to do some spanish cooking before we go so we'll no what to order when we get there
Cool, I've never seen it made by adding the potatoes into the eggs before, in our family we just throw the eggs in on top of the potato after draining the oil a bit. I might try it this way later today :)
that's a great recipe. i love making spanish tortillas (and potatoes lyonnaise, basically the same without eggs) but i always screw up the flip part and end up with a scrambled, runny mess. maybe i need to use a lot of oil like you do. what potatoes do you use? yukon gold?
nope, if you use too much oil when you add the mixture of potatoes and egg you'll have a problem when turning it... your hands will be covered in burning oil... you don't want that. Just try using a nice pan, and make sure the oil is really hot before you start making the tortilla. Btw i din't even know potatoes had names... yukon what? just the ones my mom buys... lol!
enough for me! remember you hace to COOK the potatoes and onion, not to FRY them, u dont want crispy stuff in your tortilla. Everyone has his own way to cook tortilla and believe me, mine tastes awesome! ;)
Tortillas de patatas is looks like an interesting dish. Perhaps, I will make one. This is good because of th vegetables. Oh, I love the eggs.

is it worng? how would you say it?
davidbeltra 2 years ago
I'm not saying it's wrong, just that it's funny.
I would say "mix"" them.

thekingofmoney2000 2 years ago
I just think it's funny, not wrong or anything.
I usually say "mixing them together"" but never beat cause I would laugh. It's funny that's all.
teawead 2 years ago
I say it's funny cause you can't beat up food, I mean what did they do wrong?
LOL just kidding, still funny though

It is correct to say "beat" eggs.
You also "beat" a rug when you want to clean it outside.

why do people have to criticise? we have a saying here: as many cooks, as many habits. we can all improvise, that's the beauty of cooking.
i made a tortilla just now and it's great, i've cut my potatoes smaller and added more spices.

There's too much onion in the "tortilla" of the video!
Only a bit is enough, or without onion.
