I have one of these that my uncle just gave me this week This gun was used by Charles Bronson in one of the Death Wish movies. The ammo is made up from a cut down .308. Atleast what I've been told. Butt I am 100% sure Charles Bronson had this in his movie. When he was in the Bronx going up against the street thugs. This gun was mailed to him in a nice wooden box. :(. That I don't have. Lol!!! Maybe when I fire mine I'll post videos. And comments!!
@Sicksportscards Well I have shot one, that’s how I know it’s a piece of junk. The one I shot was brand new and it was incapable of holding a consistent group at 50 feet (even from a bench rest). Additionally, the trigger was crap and it needed a ramp job. The guy who bought it regrets the purchase.
@Kersey475 This gun was actually used in many movies....Dirty Harry 4 (sudden impact), Beverly Hills Cop 2, Malone (Burt Reynolds), Destination Vegas, Battle Royale, Miami Vice (episode: Definitely Miami) and so on.
Nice handgun! Now, these can be prone to jam, esp. if you have to much tension in the mag, or a bad mag. IMO, I love guns, but, I like revolvers a little bit more, because they don't jam hardly ever & you can load them just as quick esp. with a speedloader. Revolvers are just more "genuine & reliable". This gun is interesting, even though I don't know much about it, rather than it uses a rotating bolt, & rimless rounds similar to an M1 carbine for example... IMO, I think it's quite unique! 5/5!
i'd still happily shell out the $3K asking price if i could find one for sale locally. an awesome weapon, tack driving accuracy at unbelievable ranges for a handgun. with the right ammo and some tuning work on the magazine lips/feed ramp alignment, entirely appropriate for all but the very biggest of big game hunting. which is what harry sanford originally designed it for.
the rear sight mount, receiver, barrel, and front sight are all one piece of stainless steel. watch closely at the top of the grip and you'll see that the entire barrel assembly slides to the rear for a short distance along the frame to unlock the bolt, then the bolt continues the rest of it's backward stroke. it is one of the most mechanically complex pistols ever designed and manufactured. this complexity is why it always had reliability issues.
Ah. That is probably part of the reason it has reliability issues. It appears they tried to keep it fairly small, unlike other producers like Magnum Research that just fixed it by putting an enormous slide on it (Desert Eagle). But that has a gas piston too. How does this gun work? Straight blowback?
as i recall from reading the descriptions published when the gun was being produced, it's "gas operated, short-recoil, rotary bolt with six locking lugs"... from the pics i saw, the bolt itself reminded me of an M-16.
Deavtivating a handgun in the uk had to be done by a qualified gunsmith, then the weapon had to go to the Proof House to be certified as being deactivated and supply the paperwork
to prove to the Police that it was so deactivated. Cost about US$250.00. I don't ever want a deactivated handgun. I find a club more handy to wield at close range than a pistol that wont shoot.
i like that slo mo better than the cheap ones that other users have that go like a frame per 3 seconds!!!!! thats not slo mo thats just cutting a clip!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Also owned an AO ( and early TDE ). Quite a recoil but not unmanageable. The real failure of the Auto Mag ( IMO ) was the crappy magazine. It seems the entire gun was made with care and class....until you got to the mag...very poor manufacturing.
I owned one of these back in the 1970's Serial no AO1313. The TDE model, 6" barrel, 240 grain soft nose bullet at 1450 fps. You needed a big hand to hold it. The cost new in 1973 was £286.00. I sold it in the early 1990's for £1,000.00. A pity, but if I'd held onto it it would have been confiscated in 1997 when all handguns were banned in the uk. It was one of just a half dozen or so that made it to the UK. Most of the others were in .357 Automag calibre.
I know of only three that made it here, my own .44 AMP and two .357 AMP's. Hell it was a fun gun to shoot. There was no brass available so I made my own out of cut down 30.06 or .270 Wi rifle cases. I took several deer with it and also competed at the Bisley Long Range Pistol shoot way back in 1978 with it. That was over a distance of 600 yards. I didn't win but I got 9 out of 10 shots on the 6' x 6' target. Elmer Keith I'm not. lol.
Sorry to have heard that you had to hand in your gun.Why didn't you have it deactivated, which would have been better than having no gun at all.I have a deact Wildey .475 and a working replica film prop TDE .44.
this really illistrates the problem with this gun. The round makes the whole gun kick and shake so violently that the next round doesnt feed as smothly as on a normal auto. The DE solved this by making a gun out of a massive chunk of steel.

Neat! The design seems a bit overcomplicated though, it has a moving slide AND a separate assembly that moves out behind it.
Otacon237 3 years ago
It is due to a massive blow back, that otherwise would cause the gun slide to be ripped away from the rest of the body.

myrryxmas 2 years ago
Well the AR has 8 lugs but now that you mentioned it, when you pause the video the bolt does somewhat resemble an AR bolt.
Otacon237 2 years ago
It looks like and M-16 because it was designed after the M-16 rotary bolt design.
