@sovietarchangel The magazine can be made out of any material you want. The soviets made orange "bakelite" mags for the AKM. The difference is the curve. You can see that the steep curve means 7.62x39. They make polymer, fiberglass, bakelite, metal, etc magazines for AK-47s. Also that muzzle break can be made for 7.62 as well. Ever heard of the AK-103? So it does seem that it is you who does not know what you are talking about. Sorry.

@sovietarchangel A 7.62 and a 5.45 caliber rifle can be externally identical, true. But you can tell the difference by the shape of the magazine. A 7.62 magazine is more curved than the 5.45 or the 5.56 version, because the rounds are fatter and shaped differently. If you look carefully you can see that the orange magazine is very curved compared to the black one. Also I think its just an AK-47 with a muzzle break, rather than an AK-103, because it lacks the sight rail.

@sovietarchangel The Tantal is 5.45 only, as far as I know. There are a few 7.62 rifles with similar features, like that side folding stock. The romanian AIMS looks just a lot the Tantal he has in this video, apart from the muzzle break. You cannot get an official Izhmash AK 100 series rifle in the US but maybe you could make a working replica from any AK if you could find the correct type of receiver and stock. Sorry but I do not know where you could find them.

I also learned a lot from a friend of mine who is absurdly knowledgable about Russian/Soviet military stuff. He could probably look at any AK variant and tell you the country of origin and year of production off the top of his head! He’s trying to get his hands on an AK-74M but has had no luck. He's got an airsoft one though! Still.... not the same, is it?
