I m playing DW 7, which has similar graphics, It is true that I almost barfed on my very first battle due to its graphics and such. BUTTTTTTTTTT!
Later on with better skills/magic/weapons the animation improved A LOT and it just seemed like a pokemon game or something. haha. finally appreciated the graphics and storyline of dragon warrior. I know this is 4, and I want to play this, but I believe the very good storylne of DW/DW series make it worth it buying. :D
It's sad to see people have disagreements on such small nitpicks..it's like saying Sonic has the wrong color eyes and I'm not buying the game...that's just stupid...
no its not it got translated into dragon warrior in the us due to some type of copyright problem we didnt see quest untill 7 i think i dont think we got 6 i dont think we got 5 either im not sure but my point is read up on things before you comment
i just wish that they would have improved one thing in the ds version of this game!i wish that you could actually see your characters doing the attacks!
I know right. I mean... They DID program the entire character animations for those Impostor monsters that morph into your characters, so why the hell didn't they used the upper screen just for displaying their sprites???
Amen to that. You'd think that the DS version would allow you to actually see your characters as was the case in Dragon Quest VIII. A real deal breaker on whether or not to get the game to be honest.
The only DQ game they released over here in the UK is DQ 8. Stupidly they didn't number it 8 (remember they did the same with FF II and VI in the US?)
I wish I could play the remake, or at least a hack that let you tell you party members what to do. "Cristo, stop casting beat on Necrosaro dammit, it's not going to work!"
I love how they handled the loss of his limbs in this version, instead of just having them sort of fizzle away like in the NES/Famicom version.
And yes, I do believe there is a law in place against releasing a Dragon Quest title in Japan on a work/school day because so many people skip work/school to buy it. Read that one a LONG time ago (when Nintendo Power was previewing DQ5, I believe). It is THAT popular over there!
I hope they actually release this remake this time. I was a little disappointed that the PS remake never made it over...but hopefully the DS remake arrives.
this wouldn't surprise you that much if FF2, FF3, FF5, and DQ5 had all been released in the US for the old consoles. if you use an emulator and translations to play all the games in the order that they were released, it isn't that hard to say Advantage: DQ
as i recall dqiv was more creative and compelling than dq1,2,3,or 6 and ff 1-9. how you wanna compare it to dq5 or 7 or ff10 is up to you, and unfortunately i haven't played dq8, but the rest of those games are simply inferior. maybe chrono trigger is better
Ah, if i remember correctly, Saro at first makes himself in the image of Esterk, to emulate the dark god, but when he starts to lose the fight he transforms himself into a new form that is more powerful.
i know its comin for the ds, but i just dont consider dragon quest a game that you take with you everywhere. i still wish we would have gotten it on the ps1.
Well guess what everyone, Dragon Quest IV, V, and VI are all getting ported to the DS. And it seems they are using the exact PS1 engine to port DQIV to the DS. Dunno what they'll do for V and VI.
Wow, this reminds me a lot of Dragon Warrior 7 because of it's smooth, fluid animations and it's 3d background and maps. Man, I wish I had this as well, too bad they ditched the NA version. I would have been glad to buy it up here in Canada.

Nifty. Since I don't know japanese and they bailed on the U.S. version I never got to play the remake of one of my favorite games. Would love to see the other two parts.

It's a Dragon Quest tradition not to be able to see your characters in battle, I didnt particularly care for DQ8 for that reason.

I kind of remember reading that somewhere...

I'm sure it is, but it's still not better than FF IMO.
MasterGouken 3 years ago
In mine too, FF evolves while DQ just gets better graphics with the same basic game play. While that's a plus to some it isn't to me.

I should make an Eggler and Chickler video..
I already beat it before I got Saro though.
So, I need to get Saro to 60 so he can learn Megamagic before fighting those two again very easily.

They should make a collection of the Dragon Quest oldies redone like in FFIII for DS.
maxneo1992 4 years ago
They should make DW/DQ 1 remake in 3D like DQ VIII is: (Man wouldn't that be cool to have the originl in 3D with only minor changes..)!
