Obviously the camera had to focus on whose voice was highlighted at a given moment. But I wonder how much of the live audience's attention was stolen by Zednik's stage business!
isn´t this just wonderful? in those days Jung sang a lot at our local theater, had the pleasure to hear him in "Götterdämmerung" live, what a powerful voice. Now he is a conducter. And Heinz Zednik was a great Mime, great actor too.
When the work is done solely in the realm of technis the ennoblement of labor the Sigfried is suppose to portray for us is lost (though, I suppose, that's probably the director's point).
Notice how Boulz takes his time with the tempo at the "ho ho ha hi" section. Gives an extra weight. e was criticized for not being heavy enough at times, but he understands the weight of this sectio perfectly and contrasts it with Mime's more nervous music.
I like Heinz Zednik so much! He is a very good singer, but also a great actor. He's my favourite Mime and as Loge in Rheingold - he is even more brilliant!

I've seen a much better version of this opera, this one is nice, but the one bbc aired was dark and true to the story.

Endlich eine Darstellung Mimes, die nicht durch usägliche Lächerlichkeit Wagner 's Genius schändet

I had the pleasure of seeing Boulez Conduct Debussy, Ravel and his own music live with La Phil. He is an absolute master at the podium.
