Another sad state of affairs in the black community but if the so called Black leaders including Hollywood Elite are unwilling to defuse this situation could we at least get a psychologist, or judge or at least a referee to explain both points of view in a non biased intelligent way, instead of being subjected to these profanity laced rants which only serve to increase tension in order to increase viewership similar throwing gasoliine on a campfire and telling people the forrest burned down
I agree when he said that blacks should work together and uplift one another....we don't do that this is why we get no where....years ago Phil Donahue tried to get Farrakhan to say something about Eddie Murphy and he told him...if I have something to say to my brother I will call him and speak to him privately. I don't need the media to turn us against one another. I truly respected that...that is how we have to handle the media from now on
Damn those "other minorities!" They need to keep doing their own thing as they surly don't employ us - unless they need some front black cashiers for their hood properties.
Spike Lee is not "hating" on anybody, he just did the same exact thing that you did in this video. He gave his opinion. An opinion he was asked for by the way. So if he is hating, then so are you for having an opinion. SMH. The reality is that Tyler has become very successful and that is great but he should also be diverse enough with his work to not just stereotype his characters to constantly make Blacks look bad. From Curtis Payne, Ella, Mr. Brown, Cora and Madea, he's got the bafoonery.
Maybe you should watch,When the Levee Breaks and Miracle at St. Ann's."You're an ignorant son of a bitch. What man,MAN,enjoys a Tyler Perry flicks?Gay,gay,GAY!!
spike lee needs some one shit in his mouth this guy has a right to speak up.spike lee made movies where women were treated like trash.we have enough others hating on us then for his little ass to come on here with his crap.we stopped looking at spike lees movies long ago in our house. i concider my self blacker then any one and as i said i have lived with actual characters like madea and believe me they were not coons.it takes all kinds to make the world
Eddie murphy, Jamie Fox, Martin Lawrence, Waynes Brothers and others who would coon for a buck need to do better and STOP selling themselves short. Black people, PLEASE stop supporting businesses that doesn't respect you, no matter what color.
"FOR COLORED GIRLS" Was an embarrassment! It seems like Tyler Perry still has issues regarding Black men! I think he has not resolved what has happened to him as a little boy, but his perception on black people's lifestyles must change. Spike directed Malcom X! I am hoping someone produce movie about Marcus Garvey...That will be a shocker for Tyler Perry!
I love you bruh, but I have to disagree! I liked Tyler Perry's plays and movies at first. Later through the years, his movies and tv sitcoms lacks variety, it further perpetuate the negative black stereotype. I seem like he does not have positive views on black love, so he shit on black men and women for a big check...PRECIOUS?! come on' son!
So what this idiot is saying is that there are so few roles for blacks to play that he will step up and play a Sleep n Eat coon, as long as there is a paycheck in it.
We've gone backwards since Sidney Portier for sure.
Sometimes, our vision is extremely foggy and we want to call others out for BS, but clarity is not in our focus so we literally fail to realize that we are the crabs at the bottom of the barrel clawing and pulling at the others who've found their way out and try to reach back in to help others out.
And if its a masculinity issue with some, as a Black woman, there is nothing more masculine to me than a man who is able to build something from nothing and feed an entire community from the fruits of his labor.
I always argue with friends who are against Tyler Perry for what he produces because I find it interesting that nobody called Martin Lawrence or Eddie Murphy coons or boycotted their shows or movies when they dressed up like women. I think the problem is how successful TP has become primarily based on AA buying power. To me, more Blacks are critical of other Blacks than anyone else. The image problem is among Blacks, it's not external. Subconsciously, we refuse to support successful Blacks.
He's pissed because Madea is just the fat black house lady on the Tom and Jerry cartoons. In 2012 do we need another sapphire role? Do you even know what that is? Do you understand that the black community is falling further behind? Not because of economic policies and discrimination; it's because the black community embraces and aspires to be like the stereotypes put on display in the media. The stereotypes in the 1930's are the same 2012 and they very prevalent in Tyler Perry's movies.
you can tell when some one is trained by the ignorant tube....lol i dont watch tyler crap at all in his writibg nor do i watch spikes stuff. this guy on this video is a joke.... TAKE THIS DOWN.
Why would spike care what someone else is doing. As many obsticles he faced when he first started making movies you should be the last person down talking Tyler. Like u can be the only successful black filmmaker in history. You know most white people don't want us in to have our own as it is. If u don't support him, fine, but don't rip him down for all people to see. Where's the unity?
@tfewell73 Exactly!!!!!!We don't have many successful black filmakers in the spotlight already. And Spike lee wanna talk shit about another brother thats doing great things.Im a fan of both Tyler and Spike but as for Spike he let me down by doing that interview and talking bullshit. And yeah where is the unity?
spike understands imagery and the negative portrayals in Hollywood. I dont agree with spike on everything but I definitley agree about Tyler sell a ni@@a out Perry. Look it dont take a fool to see his imagery of blackmen is despicable. I think he has issue with black men. Maybe he was sexually assualted. He gay too; its relavtive in the sense that his dis like for black men in his life bleeds into his films. I dont see Tyler's movies cant stand the hate for black men.
This cunt is a major douche bag. Is this his audition tape for Tyler Perry? Vacuous oxygen thief! Be deceased!! Btw Spike makes films, Tyler Perry makes dogshit for knobheads like you. Put that in your crack pipe and smoke it ...
When you make money by perpetuating stereotypes. Your helping no one but yourself. Making it out that black women are the victims and the black man deserves what ever gets thrown at him. Tyler is no more respectable than a drug dealer. Oh, I forgot we look up to them too.
I agree with Clifton Powell. Spike really should stop hating on TP. jbdxqb, Spike did not launch the careers of Denzel, Fish and/or Wesley for that matter.
@eluvre you must be no older than 22 years old. Spike helped launch Denzel (Mo betta blues, Malcolm X a film TP would never do) Fish (School Daze) Wesley (Mo Betta Blues, Jungle Fever) John Turtorro, (Jungle Fever, Do the right thing) helped Sam Jackson (School Daze, Jungle Fever) Halle Berry (Jungle Fever).
@cdub3100 Denzel and Fish careers were already established before working with Spike. Denzel was on a successful television show St. Elsewhere, received an Oscar nomination for Cry Freedom and won an Oscar for Glory before working with Spike. Fish's been around for years(stage, screen and TV) One Life to Live, Cornbread, Earl and Me, Apocalypse Now, Rumble Fish, etc. As for Wesley, Michael Jackson introduced him to the world with Bad. Don't take my word for it. Look it up.
@cdub3100 No you're wrong. Your just listing the roles those actors played in Spike's films. elurve is correct. Sam Jackson was in Good Fellas waaaay before any Spike film. I'm 39, so you can't patronize me with your weak argument. Peace
@DUGMAC1973 Spike helped them become household names. Bust how, School Daze, Mo Betta Blues and Do the Right Thing debuted b4 GOOD FELLAS. All it would have taken was a quick imdb search to figure that out. So do your research b4 you patronize me with a "weak argument". Peace.
@cdub3100 Wrong!! Only Do The Right Thing came out before Goodfellas you imbecile. I would agree his profile increased as a direct result of his work on Spike Lee's films, so too did Wesley. However, Denzel was already a high profile and respected actor prior to his part in any of Spike's films. So you're only marginally correct. So, my point stands, now come back with another weak argument fool.
@DUGMAC1973 you're a moron, I'm addressing you're point about Sam Jackson. Check imdb.com School Daze 1988, Do the Right Thing 1989, Mo Betta Blues 8/3/1990 Good Fellas 9/19/1990. So what I guess "Doin the butt" the theme song for School Daze was a 90's song (again 1988)? Do you research instead of pulling facts out of your ass. So I'm marginally correct about Denzel but correct nonetheless. What's crazy is you should remember this better than me, I'm 34 you're 39. Do your research b4 responding
sir your just a coon just like tyler perry. your ignorant and oblivious. i think you are a very poor speaker and you should learn to talk better before you come on here with that bull. and get your teeth fixed case it sounds like they are about to fall out of your mouth.
He hate fucking haters, while hes hating on Spike Lee. LOL Tyler make shitty movies, but its cool becuz he hires blk ppl? loI I see why Spike said what he said. This guy sounds so stupid. Let me see if i have this right. Give Tyler praise, becuz he hires blks, while making blks look ghetto &dumb? Yay Tyler keep making the blk race look dumb as fuck. But i guess theres nothin wrong with making ghetto movies 4 ghetto blk ppl. I like the play days, atleast no1 knew about them other then ghetto ppl.
are you serious? First off, how are you criticizing Spike Lee, when you can't even SPEAK? Sir, this is embarrassing. Every other word is a curse word. What point did you make? In what way is Spike bringing Tyler down? If anything, he's challenging him as a filmmaker. Tyler can do MORE. He can do so much more than he's done. And as for Spike...please check out all of the films he's made. He's a historical figure in black filmmaking. His films show diversity. Tyler can do better.
AMEN TYLER IS REAL MAN SPIKE LEE IS SUCH A SOUR PUSS THATS WHY HE IS NOT DOING WELL N EVERYONE LOVES TYLER N BEING BLESSED SPIKE LEE CAN GO TO ???HELL
Why are you perpectuating the stereo-type....first you cuss the man out...who happens to be black with HIS own opinion....then you ask us to do something for you......Man you hatin just like spike.......
Observation tyler perry homless tyler perry came up making plays and films basically portraying blacks in a negative stereotypical light. Conclusion Tyler Perry sold his soul and sold us out in the process to become wealthy at your grandmothers expense
Tyler Perry does nothing but promote negative sterotypes. Meet the browns would have been a good show but I utterly hate tthe charachater Mr. Brown. He is the pinnacle of ignorance. Its a shame that a man has to dress up as a woman to make millions of dollars. @the cost of what his self respect. His self worth. In some circles a man who dresses up as a woman is considered cursed what does this say about the nature of Mr. Or Mrs . Perry. SPIKE LEE uplifts Tyler Perry sets back simple as that
tyler perry isa fool--just because you employ some black people isit ok to degrade our image to the world---oil companies all over africa are employing some black people---but the take more than they give---most of you low level-thinking ass black people have no idead when you are being destroys-i give no praise to tyler perry--he hates black people--until you all wake up and love yourself more than stereotypical behavior--then you not ready for this truth
Funny how you talk about what Spike Lee doesn't do and doesn't know - but you yourself obviously do not know very much about Spike Lee. BTW - using profanity only makes you sound even more ignorant. Watching your video was the biggest waste of time. I will not be sharing your video.
i dont think spike is hating or jealous its the fact with the kind of pull tyler has he should be making movies to uplift blacks.. this type of stuff he making is only keeping us still. spike less is more politically conscience, and history conscience than perry...
This man is being criticized for having an opinion. And calling him a hater? How old our you 14?
You sound ignorant dude. Nothing Tyler Perry doing his up lifting the black community in no way shape or form. Tyler Perry makes horrible movies. FACT!!!! And Clifton Powell is a f*cking idiot. Black people (Not All) tend to only see black films only because its black people in it. They couldn't careless about Story plot or character dialogue etc
This man is a fool. The fact that he said the "state of Atlanta" sealed it before he said anything else. Spike has employed and worked with many minorities, and he is not hating. He is entitled to his opinion, the guy that posted this video needs to do a lot of fact checking.
I respect Perry's come-up, but his movies are bad for the image of black people, and that's what Spike is getting at and Spike is right. That said, Spike is washed up and not even relevant anymore.
This is not a "beef." This is someone saying that we, as a people, can do better. And this is Tyler Perry saying he doesn't need to do better because he is getting paid. That is insulting to me as a PERSON.
This dude in the video does not get it. This is not about who is employed, or how many african-americans they employ. This is about the CONTENT. Tyler Perry has choices. He can uplift the race, or he can put people on television wearing ridiculous clothing, using improper grammar, and portraying us as a group of people that inherently ignorant.
Tyler Perry makes good, funny and upbeat films. No artist is perfect. He is just doing his thing, and addresses some of the deep social issues and lightens it with comedy. Genius what he does. I like him and Spike. Different folks different strokes.
Coon er ree buf oo ner ree, well it's one man's opinion and he has the right to voice his opinion. Spike has voiced his opinion against many directors past and present. I don't feel Spike "player hates" as you say, for what?
I dont agree with u man! JUst because were black doesnt mean we have to agree with everything other blacks do. That like saying ysucceed black shouldve voted for obama! we are individuals not a collective consience like the borg on star trek! Im glad terry is doing good but spike is a great director and visionaryanis on another level with his films
You will never see any race in hollywood consistently portraying there men in a negative way, (dogs, abusers, drug dealers, arrogant etc) if you do see one portrayed in a negative there will be five heroes to offset the bad one, why cant perry movies be fun entertaining and showing more positive black men, is this not the beef we had with hollywood years ago, if white hollywood was making perry movies we would be in riot mode by now.
fuck tyler perry, i could care less everybody has a period if anybody speaks about a person they could care less for they're a hater.the man movies are fuckin like minstrel shows
Spike launched the careers of Denzel, Laurence Fishburn and Wesley Snipes. Contrary to popular belief, all work is not "good work." Most jobs are offered by whites and when they see this imagery, they end up not hiring us or put us in low level positions. Spike employs many blacks in his businesses and has provided young blacks with scholarships. "In the state of Atlanta"? Seriously, do you think even Tyler would hire you after seeing this video? Proof that imagery can influence...
@jbdxqb NO LEE DID NOT LAUNCH THE CAREERS OF DENZEL OR WESLEY SNIPES FISHBURNE SNIPES GOT SUCCESSFUL OFF NEW JACK CITY DENZEL GOT HIS PROPS FROM GLORY FISHBURNE GOT SUCCESSFUL FROM WHATS LOVE GOT TO DO WITH IT FUCK SPIKE LEE
@toofargone68 Wesley did Mo Betta Blues before New Jack City. He got NJC because Spike recommended him to Mario Van Peebles; Denzel got Glory because Spike Lee introduced him to Kevin Jarre after Robert Townsend worked with and introduced Denzel to Spike after working with him on a Soldier's Story; Laurance did bit parts and got the part of Dap in School Daze and John Singleton asked him to do Boyz n the Hood. This history lesson is brought to you by someone smarter than you...
@jbdxqb denzel played in a soldiers story way before spike lee.laurence fishburn played with sir laurence olivie' in some futuristic movie back in 1979. dont know about wesley,he might have but i doubt that too
@ohmphthschwrhu As I mentioned in another post, Denzel was introduced to Spike by Robert Townsend after Soldier's Story, but he was not a star at that time. It was Spike who introduced Denzel to one of the writers in Glory. What people fail to remember is that Spike told stories that challenged convention. Tyler uses the same exact formula in every movie - but he always has characters who make black people look simple and foolish. We should be beyond that...
@jbdxqb - Denzel, Laurance Fishburne and Wesley were all actors before appearing in Spike Lee movies, but Spike Lee's popularity in the early 90s helped to launch them from guys you have seen, to household names. It is unfortunate that I have to explain this to (who I believe to be) my people. It does not (however) surprise me that you would not find fault with the imagery and buck-shuflin' characters that Tyler has introduced. As Laurance said at the end of School Daze...WAKE UP!
we need more people to hate on this "destroy the black mans masculinity" bullshit. Tyler Perry is a Gay Boule member who is promoting this fagot ass energy. Wake Up.
PEOPLE, SO CALLED AFRICAN AMERICAN PEOPLE IN PARTICULAR. PLEASE WATCH THIS VIDEO : (Hidden colors storying the black male image final copy) This is the reason why Spike Lee took the bold stance and aired out Tyler Perry. You need to wake up motha fucka I'm tired of you in the closet faggots
@thablacksheep100 Tyler Perry does not have the pedigree or the education to be in boule. Furthermore, how are you benefiting anyone by making homophobic comments?
If it wasn't for Spike Lee, Tyler Perry would not even exist. Spike Lee says something you don't agree with and you call him out of his name. So is Tyler Perry. Can Tyler Perry be in a movie without acting like an old woman? I don't like the bufoonary and stupid skits. Everybody is more worried about money then intagerity. Lee addressed that. But people just heard what they wanted to hear and flew off the cliff.
Spike is not player hating, he did not talk about Tyler Perry as a person he just made a critique on his films. If you and Clifton Powell can speak so can Spike. Please listen to what he is saying. Another thing Clifton has a n opinion OK! but now he wants to be violent. People did hate on Spikes films he was the only one in modern times to make films about our people having conscious and struggling against racism in the U.S.
I agree with Clifton Powell. And FRANKLY, I'm highly dissappointed in Spike Lee. I TRULY love all the movies he made, ESPECIALLY when he was at the top of his game. And to hear this new information about Spike, is didturbing. He needs to LEAVE TYLER PERRY THE FUCK ALONE. Seems like people want to hate on him because He is reaching people no one else could. And thats sad.
This is about one stupid mother********! First off, Atlanta is not a state smuck! It's a city! 2nd it's not about whether or not he was homeless or not, it's about you have an opportunity to lift your people and you use every stereotype there is about our people to line your pockets. Not cool to exacerbate the nonsense that other races see us as in order to come up. Dont sell your soul, just to say well I am doing a lot of good by employing people. Dont drug dealers use the same rationale?
Your Right! Spike's movies had buffunery too! Jigga and whatever! He is a hater! He is wrong! WakeUp Spike! WAKEUP! I hope Tyler get rid od the dress but I Love him God Life is in him and he has his own studio! Spike wouldnt have given him a job! Tyler sees this video he may employ You! Take Care!
Dude u missed the point and your comments are not relevant. Dont forget that Spike Lee have a lot of money too, and been in the business a long time. I like Tyler Perry and his idea of putting his religous beliefs in his music. Bottom Line is that Spike Lee does have a valid point, Further more he gave his opinion in an interview after being ask: He did not volunteer or make a video to express his opinion. Get the facts
ellison you are totally taken me the wrong way, i am not looking for a cyber fight. by the way i don't eat Chitterlings. Done for a reason?.. I don't think we are the same page in the first place. Have a blessed day Sir.
Spike Lee's movies have way more substance. Spike Lee paved the way for Tyler Perry. Spike called him an uncle tom. He doesn't like the fact that he wears a dress.
@Modernart8 You feel the frustration huh? Wait until this country rolls in the tanks on your dumb ass!! And while you're eating chitterlings with the church congregation (getting high blood pressure) and your booty poppin male relatives are dancing to laffy taffy this government is going to run your ass over. The effiminization of the black male and these cooning films are done for a reason!! Wake the fuck up!!
TheNico0000..dude are you forgetting all the movies Spike Lee has made. Not to mention it's not just about hiring a 99% black cast. It's about moral issues and how we interact with the world which hell of a lot more realist than a gun toating 6'6 grandma hollering and yelling at people.
True, it's not about hiring 99% black, yes, it's about moral issues and how we interact, but for Tyler, it’s not just about a 6'6 grandma hollering and yelling at people either, it's also about the black christian families and what they’re going through realistically. So Tyler captures that wide church audience as well..and hey, that's where Tyler's money is rolling in from. So non-christian believers especially, tend to miss that point, as do Spike. You have to listen to Tyler’s message.
@EyezOfDesign I hear you. I get his message, particularly as a Christian. My thing is, its a message with a particular theme. Do I know a "Madea"? Yes. Did I have one for a Grandma? No. In fact, most of my friends don't. And the Baptist church my Grandma and mother grew up in, my Grand Uncle built. All I'm saying is, show different sides of the black community. "Madea" will always sell because its visual image most people are programmed to believe that exists only in our community.
@spankybighead Madea is from the hood, she's ghetto as you can see from her past plays, and she's not afraid to let you know it. She is who she is and she's not going to change that. However, in her last play "Madea's Christmas", she did take it to a different community. She was visiting a relative who worked for a high class family at their posh Cape Cod estate. She was out of her eliment, but the message still came across loud and clear.
@EyezOfDesign I hear you..but I'm from the hood too. So is my momma...she doesn't act like that. My Grandma is from the country...she don't act like that nor does she act like a country bumpkin. All I'm saying is, no matter what "hood" your from, you'll find all types...not just the sterotypes.
@spankybighead But my question is why would he need to go out in the public knowing the propaganda of the racist media. Why not privately talk to a younger brother on the come up and help him out. He is an experienced director and could have almost taken him under his wing. Why not help. He seemed to be pretty salty.
@sambam2694 On that point I agree. It should have been a private talk. Now we don't know if Spike ever attempted to reach out to Tyler privately. And we can't be certain if Tyler would have been receptive to such a thing. However this is just another example of black folk agruing publicly. You and I won't ever know if Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel get along or not. If Francis Ford Coppola or Oliver Stone hate each others work or not. We have to do better.
Thank you so much for your message. Yes Spike Lee is a Hater and we all know that. He talks bad about Tyler Perry, Clint Eastwood, Etc... it just doesn't stop. He needs to grow up and start acting like a REAL man.
Last I checked Spike was the godfather of putting on and employing black talent (Denzel, Halle, Wesley, Samuel L Jackson, etc) just to name a few.....Do your homework! Spike always had a meaning or message behind what he did in film, so if anything ever came off coonish, it was meant for you to see how you look and how other ppl view us. In Tyler's case there is really no reason to some of the stereotype behavior in his films. Which is cool because its comedy, but just move on with something new
@Riel2ReelFilms Oh come on...sounds like hypocrisy to me...why can't people see it for what it is...dude is just being an attention whore trying to get some attention off of Tyler...Tyler has been making movies for how many years with Madea in them and at a golden time in his career now Spike wants to pop up...if he had something to say like that he could've been a man and spoke to Tyler in private but no he did it for attention...you could say Clifton is being a hater but spike opened the flood
gates for it so if you want to call Clifton a hater than Spike is very much so one...in all or most of Tyler's movies there is a message for the blackc ommunity to learn from because it's problems black people deal with...what the hell has Spike done? look at "do the right thing"=COONERY and stereotypes and don't try to detract from it meanwhile bashing Tyler for it...this is why i said dude was a hypocrite and a hater...look at Spike's movie "she hate me" how does that depict black people?!
If you cover a lot of bases it's clearly the old washed up dog wanting some attention by going after the most prominent one at the time stop with the bull...like Tyler said on the Monique show instead of criticizing one another we should be helping each other but instead of doing that and giving Tyler a call he acted like a bitch and got at him with subliminals shoot he could've atleast had the balls to say his name...and as far as hiring black actors Tyler has hired way more
and my biggest question is if Spike was this great director why isn't he making more so called good movies? I heard from some actually that they didn't even like Spike and secondly because dude couldn't keep up with the times or able to make anything else meaningfull...he calls Tyler work coonery but in "She hate me" he's making a black men a damn sperm donor but gets on Tyler for the meet the Browns show because that's all he really can get on because his films have been great
@dollarbill125 Oh and Tyler's films are meaningful??? your CLEARLY a Spike Lee hater. I dont do bias debates...you must be young and dumb to say Spike is connery or out your mind! the end
@Riel2ReelFilms okay so why did i get married 1 and 2 wasn't meaningful, Madea goes to jail's story wasn't meaningful, I can go on Tyler has a bunch of them...and me clearly a spike lee hater I had no reason to hate him until he came out of his mouth with hate because he's bitter, jealous, and instead of giving tyler a call like men should he riduculed him on tv just for some attention we have enough black on black hate...Spike isn't the greatest black director and YEAH some of his work was
coonery look at "do the right thing" coonery and stereotypes up and down that movie but i guess it's okay for Spike to do it but not Tyler people kill me with the hypocrisy...watch "she hate me" how dare he talk about setting black people back when he made that film dude is obviously going after Tyler because he's big and Spike is just bitter as hell...like Brotha said where was Spike with soul plane was out?...when master P was making stupid movies?! HUH?! stop it! it's obvious what he's doing
@Riel2ReelFilms all Spike has really given us is Malcolm X and he only gets accreditation for that because he did it first shoot John Singleton could've done it..and people criticized him back then for some of his movies but he has the audacity to judge Tyler...get off this mans nuts..all he's doing is further separating black people from a good message and movies because he's jealous...when was the last time Spike had a good movie out...if he's so good then he should be doing what he's good at
Brotha to get to your point Spike Lee is just hating because he isn't relevant anymore it's as simple as that...his beef with tyler has gotten him as much attention as he's gotten in years...he's further pushing the divide and conquer game
I swear im black and i love black people but some of ya are some damn idiots for falling into spike lee's hate and just being so eager to hate something without spending the time to understand it...even back before slavery we were falling for the divide and conquer game and it's still working...but I bet you're still supporting ignorant rappers
@rareunheardsound Smh he puts out good messages for the black community about some of the problems the black community is facing so how is he in anyway helping white supremacy?...If you remember Marin played big momma so is he in the same boat? Tyler plays Madea for comedic relief it's sad even idiots can't see that...and how is he turning black men out?!...and Boondocks is Arron's own opinion it doesn't mean he's right and if anything the boondocks is a bad portrayal of us
Tyler Perry may have employed a lot of Black people and that is a GOOD THING. But Spike Lee's movies have deeper meaning than pretty much all of Tyler Perry's flicks altogether. White people make movies about white superheros and their history...People like Tyler Perry makes drag queen bitch movies.
I could have not said it better then Mr Powell. Fuck Spike Lee punk ass he is just hating because no one watches his movies anymore and everyone watches Tyler Perry movies!!! Hahaha
@makinit8 Tyler Perry's movies are straight coonery. Think about all the spike lees movies....they had messages. Perry's movies are a minstrel show to say the least.
This is what I don't understand, if Clifton, Tyler and everybody else has the right to speak up, why cant Spike voice his opinion without being a hater???
@Riel2ReelFilms Great point!!! Spikes words were not even that strong...he just has a problem with some of those characters. I'm proud of what Tyler has done, but I have a problem with some of those characters too. I guess I'm a hater too. lol
@Riel2ReelFilms Because of the way Spike went about it...instead of calling tyler and talking about it he went about it publicly, got mass amounts of attention off of it more attention than he's gotten in at least a decade, and furthered the seperation when it comes to blacks supporting each other...like Clifton said as black people we need to be working together to better our opportunities like the people before us did and Spike basically just shitted that
Not to mention if you watch some of spikes movies "do the right thing" it's coonery in there not to mention with the exception of malcolm X spike's movies were pretty much trash in my opinion and now where near the quality, substance, and comedy of Tyler's movies..plus Spike went to college for directing while Tyler was homeless years ago...so to criticize him without getting at him personally first and chatting it up that was attention whorish and childish the way he did it
@dollarbill125 So why isn't Clifton Powell a hater then??? because he damn sure went publicly! Spike just voiced his rightful opinion, not once did Spike say the name "TYLER PERRY" but we all knew who he was talking about. Just because your black doesn't mean you get a pass, to be the biggest coon possible just to get a check, and everybody is suppose to be cool with it...I respect Tyler for how he got started and his drive, but its time to stop the stereotypes.
@Riel2ReelFilms Why did Mr. Lee have to trash Mr. Perry in public? Why couldn't he talk to him man to man? To me it is a cowardly and feeds to fuel of "black folks not sticking together."

Drug dealers are employing african americans as well. That does not mean that what they are doing is something productive.

This guy sounds like a metro sexual sensitive dude that black women shit on. He would make a great character in a Tyler Perry movie.

Ktaressa 2 weeks ago
I always argue with friends who are against Tyler Perry for what he produces because I find it interesting that nobody called Martin Lawrence or Eddie Murphy coons or boycotted their shows or movies when they dressed up like women. I think the problem is how successful TP has become primarily based on AA buying power. To me, more Blacks are critical of other Blacks than anyone else. The image problem is among Blacks, it's not external. Subconsciously, we refuse to support successful Blacks.
Ktaressa 2 weeks ago
He's pissed because Madea is just the fat black house lady on the Tom and Jerry cartoons. In 2012 do we need another sapphire role? Do you even know what that is? Do you understand that the black community is falling further behind? Not because of economic policies and discrimination; it's because the black community embraces and aspires to be like the stereotypes put on display in the media. The stereotypes in the 1930's are the same 2012 and they very prevalent in Tyler Perry's movies.

Where's the unity?

spike understands imagery and the negative portrayals in Hollywood. I dont agree with spike on everything but I definitley agree about Tyler sell a ni@@a out Perry. Look it dont take a fool to see his imagery of blackmen is despicable. I think he has issue with black men. Maybe he was sexually assualted. I agree with Clifton Powell. Spike really should stop hating on TP. jbdxqb, Spike did not launch the careers of Denzel, Fish and/or Wesley for that matter.
eluvre 1 month ago
@eluvre you must be no older than 22 years old. Spike helped launch Denzel (Mo betta blues, Malcolm X a film TP would never do) Fish (School Daze) Wesley (Mo Betta Blues, Jungle Fever) John Turtorro, (Jungle Fever, Do the right thing) helped Sam Jackson (School Daze, Jungle Fever) Halle Berry (Jungle Fever).
cdub3100 1 month ago
@cdub3100 Denzel and Fish careers were already established before working with Spike. Denzel was on a successful television show St. Elsewhere, received an Oscar nomination for Cry Freedom and won an Oscar for Glory before working with Spike. Fish's been around for years(stage, screen and TV) One Life to Live, Cornbread, Earl and Me, Apocalypse Now, Rumble Fish, etc. As for Wesley, Michael Jackson introduced him to the world with Bad. Don't take my word for it. Look it up.

cdub3100 3 weeks ago
@cdub3100 Wrong!! Only Do The Right Thing came out before Goodfellas you imbecile. I would agree his profile increased as a direct result of his work on Spike Lee's films, so too did Wesley. However, Denzel was already a high profile and respected actor prior to his part in any of Spike's films. So you're only marginally correct. So, my point stands, now come back with another weak argument fool.
DUGMAC1973 3 weeks ago

This history lesson is brought to you by someone smarter than you...

We should be beyond that...
jbdxqb 1 month ago
@jbdxqb - Denzel, Laurance Fishburne and Wesley were all actors before appearing in Spike Lee movies, but Spike Lee's popularity in the early 90s helped to launch them from guys you have seen, to household names. It is unfortunate that I have to explain this to (who I believe to be) my people. It does not (however) surprise me that you would not find fault with the imagery and buck-shuflin' characters that Tyler has introduced. As Laurance said at the end of School Daze...WAKE UP!

But people just heard what they wanted to hear and flew off the cliff.

ellisonwrigh60srage 6 months ago
TheNico0000..dude are you forgetting all the movies Spike Lee has made. Not to mention it's not just about hiring a 99% black cast. It's about moral issues and how we interact with the world which hell of a lot more realist than a gun toating 6'6 grandma hollering and yelling at people.
spankybighead 7 months ago 8
True, it's not about hiring 99% black, yes, it's about moral issues and how we interact, but for Tyler, it’s not just about a 6'6 grandma hollering and yelling at people either, it's also about the black christian families and what they’re going through realistically. So Tyler captures that wide church audience as well..and hey, that's where Tyler's money is rolling in from. So non-christian believers especially, tend to miss that point, as do Spike. You have to listen to Tyler’s message.
EyezOfDesign 2 months ago
@EyezOfDesign I hear you. I get his message, particularly as a Christian. My thing is, its a message with a particular theme. Do I know a "Madea"? Yes. Did I have one for a Grandma? No. In fact, most of my friends don't. And the Baptist church my Grandma and mother grew up in, my Grand Uncle built. All I'm saying is, show different sides of the black community. "Madea" will always sell because its visual image most people are programmed to believe that exists only in our community.
spankybighead 2 months ago
@spankybighead Madea is from the hood, she's ghetto as you can see from her past plays, and she's not afraid to let you know it. She is who she is and she's not going to change that. However, in her last play "Madea's Christmas", she did take it to a different community. She was visiting a relative who worked for a high class family at their posh Cape Cod estate. She was out of her eliment, but the message still came across loud and clear.
EyezOfDesign 2 months ago
@EyezOfDesign I hear you..but I'm from the hood too. So is my momma...she doesn't act like that. My Grandma is from the country...she don't act like that nor does she act like a country bumpkin. All I'm saying is, no matter what "hood" your from, you'll find all types...not just the sterotypes.
spankybighead 2 months ago
@spankybighead But my question is why would he need to go out in the public knowing the propaganda of the racist media. Why not privately talk to a younger brother on the come up and help him out. He is an experienced director and could have almost taken him under his wing. Why not help. He seemed to be pretty salty.
sambam2694 1 month ago
@sambam2694 On that point I agree. It should have been a private talk. Now we don't know if Spike ever attempted to reach out to Tyler privately. And we can't be certain if Tyler would have been receptive to such a thing. However this is just another example of black folk agruing publicly. You and I won't ever know if Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel get along or not. If Francis Ford Coppola or Oliver Stone hate each others work or not. We have to do better.
spankybighead 1 month ago

Last I checked Spike was the godfather of putting on and employing black talent (Denzel, Halle, Wesley, Samuel L Jackson, etc) just to name a few.....Do your homework! Spike always had a meaning or message behind what he did in film, so if anything ever came off coonish, it was meant for you to see how you look and how other ppl view us. In Tyler's case there is really no reason to some of the stereotype behavior in his films. Which is cool because its comedy, but just move on with something new
Riel2ReelFilms 8 months ago
@Riel2ReelFilms Oh come on...sounds like hypocrisy to me...why can't people see it for what it is...dude is just being an attention whore trying to get some attention off of Tyler...Tyler has been making movies for how many years with Madea in them and at a golden time in his career now Spike wants to pop up...if he had something to say like that he could've been a man and spoke to Tyler in private but no he did it for attention...you could say Clifton is being a hater but spike opened the flood
dollarbill125 8 months ago
gates for it so if you want to call Clifton a hater than Spike is very much so one...in all or most of Tyler's movies there is a message for the blackc ommunity to learn from because it's problems black people deal with...what the hell has Spike done? look at "do the right thing"=COONERY and stereotypes and don't try to detract from it meanwhile bashing Tyler for it...this is why i said dude was a hypocrite and a hater...look at Spike's movie "she hate me" how does that depict black people?!
dollarbill125 8 months ago
If you cover a lot of bases it's clearly the old washed up dog wanting some attention by going after the most prominent one at the time stop with the bull...like Tyler said on the Monique show instead of criticizing one another we should be helping each other but instead of doing that and giving Tyler a call he acted like a bitch and got at him with subliminals shoot he could've atleast had the balls to say his name...and as far as hiring black actors Tyler has hired way more
dollarbill125 8 months ago
and my biggest question is if Spike was this great director why isn't he making more so called good movies? I heard from some actually that they didn't even like Spike and secondly because dude couldn't keep up with the times or able to make anything else meaningfull...he calls Tyler work coonery but in "She hate me" he's making a black men a damn sperm donor but gets on Tyler for the meet the Browns show because that's all he really can get on because his films have been great
dollarbill125 8 months ago
@dollarbill125 Oh and Tyler's films are meaningful??? your CLEARLY a Spike Lee hater. I dont do bias debates...you must be young and dumb to say Spike is connery or out your mind! the end
Riel2ReelFilms 8 months ago
@Riel2ReelFilms okay so why did i get married 1 and 2 wasn't meaningful, Madea goes to jail's story wasn't meaningful, I can go on Tyler has a bunch of them...and me clearly a spike lee hater I had no reason to hate him until he came out of his mouth with hate because he's bitter, jealous, and instead of giving tyler a call like men should he riduculed him on tv just for some attention we have enough black on black hate...Spike isn't the greatest black director and YEAH some of his work was
dollarbill125 8 months ago
coonery look at "do the right thing" coonery and stereotypes up and down that movie but i guess it's okay for Spike to do it but not Tyler people kill me with the hypocrisy...watch "she hate me" how dare he talk about setting black people back when he made that film dude is obviously going after Tyler because he's big and Spike is just bitter as hell...like Brotha said where was Spike with soul plane was out?...when master P was making stupid movies?! HUH?! stop it! it's obvious what he's doing
dollarbill125 8 months ago
@Riel2ReelFilms all Spike has really given us is Malcolm X and he only gets accreditation for that because he did it first shoot John Singleton could've done it..and people criticized him back then for some of his movies but he has the audacity to judge Tyler...get off this mans nuts..all he's doing is further separating black people from a good message and movies because he's jealous...when was the last time Spike had a good movie out...if he's so good then he should be doing what he's good at
dollarbill125 8 months ago
Brotha to get to your point Spike Lee is just hating because he isn't relevant anymore it's as simple as that...his beef with tyler has gotten him as much attention as he's gotten in years...he's further pushing the divide and conquer game
dollarbill125 8 months ago
I swear im black and i love black people but some of ya are some damn idiots for falling into spike lee's hate and just being so eager to hate something without spending the time to understand it...even back before slavery we were falling for the divide and conquer game and it's still working...but I bet you're still supporting ignorant rappers
dollarbill125 8 months ago

White people make movies about white superheros and their history...People like Tyler Perry makes drag queen bitch movies.
ankokugaiBOSS 9 months ago
I could have not said it better then Mr Powell. Fuck Spike Lee punk ass he is just hating because no one watches his movies anymore and everyone watches Tyler Perry movies!!! Hahaha
makinit8 9 months ago
@makinit8 Tyler Perry's movies are straight coonery. Think about all the spike lees movies....they had messages. Perry's movies are a minstrel show to say the least.

You know, we ripped Antoine Dobson for "setting us back 100 years" and then we line up in droves to be entertained by Madea.....#1AndTheSame...

This is what I don't understand, if Clifton, Tyler and everybody else has the right to speak up, why cant Spike voice his opinion without being a hater???
Riel2ReelFilms 9 months ago 16
@Riel2ReelFilms Great point!!! Spikes words were not even that strong...he just has a problem with some of those characters. I'm proud of what Tyler has done, but I have a problem with some of those characters too. I guess I'm a hater too. lol
stylesb05 9 months ago

Riel2ReelFilms 8 months ago
@Riel2ReelFilms Why did Mr. Lee have to trash Mr. Perry in public? Why couldn't he talk to him man to man? To me it is a cowardly and feeds to fuel of "black folks not sticking together."
