  • Randy's 'version' of this is more of an actual song whereas Leo's Etude 6 sounds more like a study or technique exercise.

    Am i correct?

  • wow! just started playing this piece for my grade 5 exam, hope i can get it up to that standard!

  • I'm playing this all the day and night in my head, because soon I'll have guitar exam :) It's beautiful!

  • Wow this is exactly like Diary Of A Madman intro. I guess Randy borrowed it. Still though to incorporate it into a metal guitar song so fluidly shows his brilliance on guitar.

  • @vaibanez17 Yeah, that's where Randy got it from. According to Ozzy's biography (which might not be 100% correct due to his drug (ab)use), Randy was practising this piece and Oz basically said "woah, that's ace! Make a song out of it!". Randy told him it was an existing piece and he couldn't just use it, so Ozzy asked him to create his own interpretation of it by changing some of the chords etc.

The short version of the story on "Diary"! :)

  • ez már majdnem olyan mint mikor én játszottam...

  • sounded really great! the only thing i didnt really like was how intense your vibrato looked and how little it sounded. that would be all. great peice!

  • Not bad at all, left hand seems a little tight, but the piece is almost designed to help address this. Relax that hand a little more and you will notice a significant difference. Good job!

  • Nicely played. I like the ambience.

  • i like the randy rhodes variation better

  • niceone =)

  • well done! Good timing and expression.

  • sweet

  • A musica é bastante mais rapida, mas sou da opiniao k fica muito mais bonita quando tocada como o fizeste!!

    Fixe xD

  • eu tb e tb sou tuga xD

so nao tenho 13 anos lol

  • oh yeah man i love it ,you have talent and it sounds wonderful . You play very good. 5/5 points

  • Ese tampoco es el aire,Vigila tu pulgar izquierdo

  • cómo que no es el aire? por favor explícate amigo

  • Hi, check my "Impressions over Leo Brouwer's Estudios Sencillos I & II) on my profile at myspacecom/bordinhonandre

  • Hey, good job. can you play "diary of a madman?" I've been working on the original brouwer as well as the randy rhoads transposition.

  • it's beautiful. and loses its magic when you play it too fast!

  • This is a great piece, did anyone hear Muse play it before Unintended at wembley?

  • yea muse and this guy rulez

  • you did a great job man but i did some research and my teacher told me that the 1 25 on the bottom of the piece is not refering to the time signature. Look up estudes simples and the video above yours is in correct time.

  • La velocidad esta correcta!!!! Me gusta tu forma de expresar y la de resaltar los bajos!

    FELICITACIONES!!!

  • i am doin this 4 my 2nd yr foundation..u sounds great ...just need 2 speed up...like wat my lecturer told me...but congratz man!!!!

  • Why should he speed up? It's exactly the speed mr. Brouwer indicated on the score. And it sounds beautiful.

  • bravo..

    a farla velocissima è difficilissimo

  • 1'25" isn't a performance suggestion, its an editors mark, a high estimate of about how long it might take to play the piece. Its more useful on longer pieces to help you plan a performance. Play it as quickly as you like! Just don't lose expression. This isn't Bach, rubato can be a wonderful thing on a piece like this.

  • GREAT SOUND great harmonies great piece

    cheers

  • wtf dont try to do vibratos where you dont need them man,i saw your hand shaking in the whole video but i never heard a vibrato, besides it wouldnt sound good

  • I think you should play it faster

  • Not necessarily faster. But if it is played slowly, I think it requires far more expression. I like to mix tonal colour and experiment with dynamics and rubato considerably when playing the piece at this tempo.

  • I am learning this song too! You sound great!

  • Great piece!

  • DearVery very Nice kyunghwee. yet wud hint it maybe would sound better if you think of villalobos Number 1 where some Latin read between the noes and take out samba rhythm from simply arpegio. Like that some cuban can do this on top of it.

  • Good Job! My teacher was a pupil of Brouwer's and she taught me to play it just like you do.

  • relax a little more when you play... don't play any faster or slower, play it as you want to... but i see that you doesn't relax..

  • wow...i believe randy rhoads "diary of a madman" derived from this piece...the chords are the same...just randy arranged it some otehr way...anyone agree?

  • This piece, yes, Randy did use this piece in Diary of a Madman. Ozzy heard Randy playing that one day and told him, ''THAT will be part of the song'', or something along the lines of that. So I agree completely

  • yea dude, i've played Diary Of Madman for my teacher and he sai; that's Leo Brouwer. I knew he was Randy's teacher

  • yes ...i play this study like the partiture.. 1'25, and the fingers repeat just one time, (A B)x4 = 5'20...

search 'Thiago Penna Brouwer' and see my video..

    here i play (A B)x1 , 1'05...

    no fast..

  • To play it much faster?!? No!!!

    To play it, yes!

Your fingers are vibrating for nothing: it's just a visual effect. The notes are played without life and energy.

Ok, you have the skill, and that's already fine!

But you have to play it, now... And I'm pretty sure that you CAN do it. Keep up your good work, and thank you for sharing!!!

"trying to stay as close to 1'25" as indicated in score"... Hey you all stupid guys, asking for speed!!!

  • You have to play it much and much faster. You must also place accents on the notes the thumb plays.

  • you should play it faster

  • pretty nice! Although i must say that i don't think it's the most accessible... i consider it to be one of the more challenging pieces of the frst 10 estudios. But it's probably the most popular, if that's what you mean.... again, well played, not too fast or slow; quite consistent. well done!

  • hey i owuld liek to hear etudes number one :-D

  • If you fix one thing - bring your left thumb up the neck more towards the bass strings and straighten out your left wrist. If you keep playing with a bent wrist like this you will injure yourself because you are over extending the tendons. It will take hard work and discipline but do yourself a favour now so you can keep playing all your life.

  • a little faster

  • Right shoulder is far too tense - vibrato is far to tense and has to more relaxed. however good job otherwise - could faster. planting fingers in the right hand would help, using the right hand thumb as an anchor!

  • This is one of the first pieces I was taught over 20 years ago. I've never heard a recording of it though until looking it up here. And now I learn I probably play it about 3 times too fast! Ugh! On one hand the picking of the fast version creates a really nice tremelo like effect. On the other hand the piece is over in 30 seconds and the music doesn't flow. Maybe playing it fast but doubling all the bars up would be a good compromise.

  • No compromise with was intended by the author himself, asking to play it in 1'30.

But your idea to double and to speed up could produce a nice arrangement. On the same way, I made an arrangement where I play only from La to Mi, with a repeat of Do#, Re#, Mi, and so on, and a continuous movement from the rosette to the saddle.

  • Great But In my view Not enough of Rallentendo!

  • Sounded good to me. That's what I like about Youtube, you can hear stuff you've never heard before. I've read some of the comments on your other playing. They all only wish they were half as good as you.

  • I am performing this this week and its a beautiful little number from leo brouwer, u play it well and as it is written exactly, to improve i would add a bit more of an ebb and flow, in the bars as it has that feeling to it, but other than that perfect mate, fair play :D

  • good job, good sound, but i think your left hand is a little tense, try to relax that hand more maybe?

  • i think hes just doing a vibrato
